How much were your 12 wk scan pics?

Firstly I know point of scan is to check safety of baby
My local hospital has just gone from £2 pic to baby TV receipt unit charging 2 for £10 or 4 for £18!! Given it a but of a thing offered in stunned at this increase
Combined with extortionate parking charges and travel to hospital it actually makes the private scan at £40 very good value- 4 photos, free parking, 30 minute session, and at time to suit/ evenings weekends etc
The staff were handing out complaint forms and encouraging comments yet were disgusted at the charge and the amount of people who couldn't have one now Hmm
I'm disappointed especially as the cash doesn't even go into the same unit or hospital
I can afford it but many can't, seems so wrong

I'm glad I've seen this thread. 9 weeks preg and I had no idea you had to pay.

minijoeyjojo · 08/04/2015 17:46

Mine were supposed to be £5 for two photos. The machine was broken though so I got four free :)

Beesandbutterflies · 08/04/2015 17:47

Time for a campaign? It's sad for those on a low income that genuinely cannot afford Hmm
And I don't see why it depends where you live to what you have to pay! Very unfair

idontknowmyusernameanymore · 08/04/2015 17:59

We live in Bath and I think they think as its a 'wealthy' city everybody can afford it!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 08/04/2015 18:06

I feel like a tight-arse in that I don't think I need any this time (baby #2) as I don't know where DS's are now. But then I'll feel bad if I bought them for him and not this baby!
A tenner is ridiculous, surely it can't cost that much to print one, can it?

Littlemonstersrule · 08/04/2015 18:15

A campaign? A joke surely.

If a new parent can't afford a scan picture then how on earth do they plan to feed and clothe a child as its costs a hell of a lot more than a photo.

Carrierpenguin · 08/04/2015 18:17

£5 for two here. I don't think that they should charge more than that, though I don't see that they should be free either. I'm not rich but if you can't afford £5 then I'd wonder how you will afford to bring up a child tbh. A small charge is fine imo,

Ztastic · 08/04/2015 18:22

Donation only, I've had 3 scans and have been given 4 pictures each time. The first donation we gave was going towards a baby charity some of the hospital staff were running marathon for. I'm in Scotland, had babies in two different healthcare regions and have never heard of fixed charges.

ChatEnOeuf · 08/04/2015 18:33

Free last time (4 yrs ago), on NHS. Technically free this time, though they are only on memory stick, and it's all private, so I pay for every consultation, more if there's a scan (40E/80E).

Beesandbutterflies · 08/04/2015 18:34

Yes was meant tongue in cheek but I do think a donation is fairer, and it's not for me to judge what people on low incomes choose to spend money on, bring priced out of a picture that probably cost about 5p to produce seems wrong to me. Maybe I'm a socialist

Chchchchanging · 08/04/2015 21:32

Interesting for all your replies- I wouldn't mind paying but the hospital don't get the cash!!
The lovely sonographer have us more but I so think a charge per print not for profit it donation would be nice, and flat rate accross the country
I'm at a huge hospital in east mods so nowhere glam!

Ours were free at BRI in bradford :-)

ihatelego · 08/04/2015 21:39

£5 for about 5/6 pictures here in the east midlands.

WibblyWobblyHead · 08/04/2015 21:46

We paid £1 per photo

Lottiedoubtie · 08/04/2015 22:05

I had a LOT of scans Sad but fortunately DS was absolutely fine in the end!

£2 per photo at 2 different hospitals. Although if it was bad or semi-bad news we were never charged. I think the sonographers were either turning a blind eye or able to use their discretion.

ilovemargaretatwood8931 · 08/04/2015 22:10

All free for me.

Ymamiss · 08/04/2015 22:18

We had our 12 wk scan yesterday and went armed with pound coins as it said on the letter that they would be £2 per copy. However, the machine was broken so when I asked the sonographer how to go about getting one, she said "well you're not paying for any then, we only spend the money on biscuits anyway!"she was lovely and printed 6 off for us!

Aquarius1 · 08/04/2015 22:27

£6 for 4 almost identical pics at Leeds LGI. Wish we could get a video - I'd happily pay for that - so amazing seeing them wriggling around.

cowbiscuits · 08/04/2015 22:34

I think ours were £3 each but when I told the sonographer that I worked at the hospital she did me them for free Smile

Didn't get the same perks with this one.

CookPassBabtrigde · 08/04/2015 22:43

We got our 12 week ones for free (6 of them) because we were the only couple willing to let a student do our scan as part of her final exams :) she was brilliant and we also got an extra long scan as a result!
But the standard charge was £5 for 3 I believe. We had to pay at 20 weeks

CookPassBabtrigde · 08/04/2015 22:46

Some areas/hospitals it's free, I believe. Some prices on here are just ridiculous, it doesn't cost them much to print them, certainly not £3 per picture.

Chchchchanging · 08/04/2015 22:54

I hate Lego which hosp? The charges changed 1.4 apparently
