Firstly I know point of scan is to check safety of baby
My local hospital has just gone from £2 pic to baby TV receipt unit charging 2 for £10 or 4 for £18!! Given it a but of a thing offered in stunned at this increase
Combined with extortionate parking charges and travel to hospital it actually makes the private scan at £40 very good value- 4 photos, free parking, 30 minute session, and at time to suit/ evenings weekends etc
The staff were handing out complaint forms and encouraging comments yet were disgusted at the charge and the amount of people who couldn't have one now Hmm
I'm disappointed especially as the cash doesn't even go into the same unit or hospital
I can afford it but many can't, seems so wrong

£10 for 3 at the JR in Oxford. Saying that, they didn't charge me last time as DC was not behaving so they gave me the not-great pics for free.

strawberry01 · 09/04/2015 11:02

Free and no mention of a donation. Scotland. Got 4 pics with 12 week scan and 3 at 20 week scan

strawberry01 · 09/04/2015 11:04

Omg just read some posts about the money not going to the hospital. Being spent on biscuits Shock if they had a donation tin for the neonatal unit or something I would have definitely put in a few pounds !

MustBeLoopy390 · 09/04/2015 11:11

Ours were £5 per pic, the annoying thing being SIL had her scans in the same place and 'sob storied' the sonographer that she had no money etc and has got all hers free! Main difference between SIL and me is income, they are on over double what we are per month but they constantly play the poor card Angry IMO they should be free/donation so that in the case of things going wrong everyone can have a memento of the baby.

CookPassBabtrigde · 09/04/2015 11:13

I was thinking that, strawberry. It should go to a charity, something like pregnancy loss/ premature babies/ special care unit.
I would've paid more than a fiver if it did.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 09/04/2015 12:12

It's interesting that many on this thread have said the sonographers let them off (like me) or gave extra pictures etc. It suggests they're perhaps not in favour of charging? A donation for the NICU / SCBU at the hospital would be a great idea

Rebecca1608 · 09/04/2015 14:37

I had 2 freebies! :)

irishamy89 · 09/04/2015 15:03

I'm with UCH (London) and the letter I received said £2 per pic. I can't believe the expense that some pp's are incurring!

wowiesis111 · 09/04/2015 15:16

I was lucky enough to get mine free as I was waiting so long she felt sorry for me !!

iniquity · 09/04/2015 15:37

£4 for1 and 3 for £10 which you have to buy in advance which seems unfair if there is a problem. I did not get at 12 week scan but might purchase a 20 week scan.

Marmite27 · 09/04/2015 20:41

£6 for two at St James Leeds. But was given three.

BlacknWhitePanda · 09/04/2015 20:44

£4 for 8. But i saw a family who forgot money and they printed off a photo for them and let them take billions on their phone too.

loveandsmiles · 09/04/2015 21:02

I am in Scotland and all scan pics free - they even asked how many I wantedSmile. Consider myself very lucky after reading about all the charges others have incurred.

heatherxo · 09/04/2015 21:15

Ours are free but usually only get 2 or 3 pics. I was given 8 due to finding out my little lad's twin had passed.
But they do ask for a small donation since they are free x

Kym134 · 13/04/2015 21:30

£10 for 4 and had to pay in bloody coins!

blowinahoolie · 14/04/2015 09:58

Free. Haven't heard of anyone having to pay!

Coraltee123 · 22/04/2015 18:23

Just came across this thread there now. I have never heard of this before! I've never got charged either have any of my friends or family unless you go for a private scan. Is this nhs? And would this be because I live in northern Ireland?? Just curious. Think them prices are ridiculous when a private scan would be cheaper xx
