Nuchal fold measurement 2.1 and 13 weeks ? Normal ?

Hi all
I had a baby last year who had major abnormalities so I'm very scared all the time
I had my 12 week scan and the neck nuchal fold measured 2.1mm is this okay for 13.1 weeks? They said it's fine but looking online most seem 1. Something

That's normal. Mine was 2.7 at 13.2 weeks and he is perfectly healthy.

missfitz23 · 03/04/2015 15:35

Thank you so much I've been worried sick . Did they say your measurement was okay

I'm 16 wks, nuchal fold measurement came out at 2.0 mm at 13wks. Had results letter saying I'm low risk.

moomoob · 03/04/2015 16:36

Absolutely fine. Anything under 4 is fine.

TakesTwoToTango · 03/04/2015 17:58

Sounds great! Bear in mind that every day that passes the baby grows and so does the nuchal fold. So people who had their scans at 11 or 12 weeks may well have smaller measurements.

missfitz23 · 03/04/2015 17:58

Thanks guys I was really worrying when I saw how some hospitals view over 2 as high

When I was pg, my midwife told me they only worry if the measurement is over 3.5.

Grantaire · 03/04/2015 18:04

Sound utterly, completely, wonderfully normal. DS's was 2.9mm at 13+6 and nobody batted an eyelid. Treating anything over 2 as high is wrong. Thousands of babies every year will be over 2. Some will be over 3 and still nobody will worry.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope it's a happy and healthy one.

You've all reassured me so much . I'm a right anxious Annie since my still birth last yr

Mine was 2.6 at 12 plus 5 days and I am 42. I was convinced I'd be high risk but I just got my letter yesterday saying l risk. My dd had measurement of 2.1 at 12 weeks and her odd were 1 in 6000.she is fine. Please don't worry

Xx

crispiecrunchie · 04/04/2015 08:08

That should be letter saying low risk

missfitz23 · 04/04/2015 10:36

Bump for any more measurements

It's above the 95th centile, so yes, I would be having further investigations based on this measurement.

BatteryPoweredHen · 04/04/2015 23:33

Have you had bloods done yet op?

missfitz23 · 05/04/2015 04:45

Great that worries me :( had a baby with issues last year . Yeah had blood done . Worried it indicates another baby with heart defects . So 2.1 is worrying then?

OP posts:
missfitz23 · 05/04/2015 04:46

Btw I was 13.1 weeks having it done . Apparently the measurement is naturally larger the further you are. So a 11 week baby would naturally be a smaller measurement that a 13 . I think the cut off values change depending on gestation

OP posts:
crispiecrunchie · 05/04/2015 08:55

Do you have a link for that statistic battery. I googled extensively and found nothing to indicate 2.1 is an issue. In most areas under 3.5 is considered fine
That measurement alone is nothing to be concerned about. Please don't panic op.

MrsBeeBeeBee · 05/04/2015 10:18

Can't remember mine exactly this time but it was 2.something at 13+5.
My blood results then came back as 1 in 33000, so low risk.
Yours sounds absolutely fine. Smile I know it'll be a worry after previous experience but I have never heard any reason to have further investigation based on the results you've got, and I'm guessing no professionals mentioned it either.

Fingers crossed your blood results are back quickly so you can hopefully get some reassurance. Wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy xx

crispiecrunchie · 05/04/2015 10:52

I just looked up nuchal measurement and heat defects. This study shows with a 2.1 to 2.4 measurement the risk is only 0.48 so very small. Plus you see at the lowest end of that. I imagine the chances of two pregnancies with similar problems is tiny

Let us know how you get on!

missfitz23 · 05/04/2015 13:50

Thank you . I have a consultant appt Tuesday for a diff reason so will ask him
What he thinks then. I'm also panicking it indicates a heart issue x but that article is very reassuring
