Nuchal fold measurement 2.1 and 13 weeks ? Normal ?

Hi all
I had a baby last year who had major abnormalities so I'm very scared all the time
I had my 12 week scan and the neck nuchal fold measured 2.1mm is this okay for 13.1 weeks? They said it's fine but looking online most seem 1. Something

Also found this from a published paper so you were well within limit for 13+1

The 95th percentile nuchal translucency values used by the Fetal Medicine Foundation are 2.2 mm at 10 weeks' gestation and 2.8 mm at 14 weeks' gestation.

missfitz23 · 06/04/2015 21:51

Thank you . The only reason I'm panicking is because everyone I see online says theirs was 1. Something . And sometimes those who had a 2. Something like me were told it's high risk. I'm also worried it may indicate heart defects which my baby last year had who died . I'm so nervous :(

Dd had a Nuchal gold measurement of 3.3mm at 13.1 weeks. Our risk for downs was 780:1. We had an extra heart scan but no other investigations.

She's now a very healthy happy normal as a 7yo can be 7yo!

The only person I knew who was high risk had a nf of 6. Her dS was also fine.

PekeandPollicle · 06/04/2015 21:58

Also , I was the same as you - I worried so much about the measurement that I was incredibly anxious during pregnancy and found having s newborn almost overwhelming.

Please talk to your midwife and consultant and get them to help as much as possible, even if you worry sbout pestering them.

missfitz23 · 08/04/2015 08:16

Thanks all . Saw my consultant today . My results aren't back yet but I asked about 2.1 she said is fine .

I hope you feel a bit reassured and can relax a bit and enjoy the pregnancy (I should take my own advice!) Xx

missfitz23 · 09/04/2015 09:30

I know I'm finding it so hard to relax. 4 weeks till my cardiac scan now :/ xxxx

2.1 is perfectly normal, exactly what I had at 13 weeks, and according to my notes, that's around 50th percentile considering the crown-rump length, not 95.
Even though I was low risk, I also had the Harmony, because of my age, and baby is fine.

missfitz23 · 09/04/2015 09:52

Thanks hazel what did your risk come back at combined with bloods ?

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 09/04/2015 09:58

If I now remember correctly 1:1400. But I'm 36, so only based on the age, the risk would be about 1 in 200-300, depending on the source. With my first, I had about the same risk at the age of 34, and he's certainly perfectly fine.

Grantaire · 09/04/2015 10:08

missfitz, there will be people who have a 2 something nuchal fold and combined with bloods get a 1:thousands results, some who get a 1:hundreds and some whose risk is higher. The bloods are individual to each woman. I had the same nuchal fold measurement as a friend, at the same gestation. Her combined risk was 1:17000. Mine was 1:156.

I know why you're so very worried and I was the same after losing my first pregnancy. You can't stop the anxiety in some ways. However, you can only deal with what you know right now. And right now you know that your nuchal fold measurement was absolutely, completely normal.

Have you mentioned your anxieties to your midwife? There is antenatal support available if your anxiety is affecting you very badly.

missfitz23 · 09/04/2015 20:04

Yeah they know I'm anxious from what happened before I just keep waiting for bad news . Now I found out that my scan was classed as hard to scan as I have a fat stomach so in my mind they didn't even look at anything at the 12 week scan

I got my results today. The NF measurement was 2.01 at 12+4 and I'm 35.

Age alone my results are 1:411. Taking into account bloods, it's 1:9380 - low risk.

missfitz23 · 10/04/2015 13:15

Thanks for sharing marmite

My nf measurement was 2.4 at twelve weeks I'm 27 and bloods put my risk to 1 in 20. I think each hospital has a cut off point as 2.4 in some hospitals is not high, whereas in the hospital I'm at 2.5 is the cut off ( considered high)
Had the harmony test and all is now low risk.

missfitz23 · 11/04/2015 10:14

Really it's weird and concerning why all hospitals are so differnt . Should be one for all . We're your bloods okay

OP posts:
anxiousannie10 · 11/04/2015 12:22

Sorry mistake there, I'm 37 not 27 ! Silly phone.
My bloods were slightly off, have wrote them on a thread here somewhere. They told me that my levels didn't make my situation worse or better ! Make of that what you will. It's all very confusing and makes me wonder just how reliable it really is after all. Waiting for my twenty week scan now, and also hoping my Harmony Test result is correct.

missfitz23 · 12/04/2015 21:20

Good luck with your 20 w scan anxiousannie xx

Thank you. Smile
All the very best to you also

missfitz23 · 13/04/2015 18:59

Got a text to say it's low risk but didn't give a ratio. I'm worrying it may indicate a heart issue like my angel baby though .

Skiptonlass · 13/04/2015 19:42

The odds depends on not just your NF measurement - and 2.1 is absolutely fine! Mine was 2.0 today at 13.2 and I came out with a 1:20,000. If they've told you you are low risk, you are.

I can absolutely understand your worry after a previous baby having issues - maybe they texted you ahead of sending the full results because they knew you were worried? it's such a nerve wracking time! Will they send you a letter with your exact results on? I got a print out of mine - perhaps they will send you one for your notes.

CommanderShepard · 13/04/2015 20:42

2.1 is fine, honest. Mine was 2.8 at 13+4 and I've just had my bloods back as making the risk 1 in 61,000.

missfitz23 · 14/04/2015 12:25

Thank yo xx

applecore0317 · 14/04/2015 13:15

I had a Nf measurement of 1.5, bloods came back low risk, I have never been given a ratio and it's not in my notes either. 20 week scan was all fine and am now 33+6

I never got a letter, was just told low risk at 16 week appointment

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 14/04/2015 18:49

I had a nf measurement of 3.2mm at 14 weeks with my dd and I was absolutely beside myself with worry - nobody at the hospital batted an eyelid. The results came back as 1:25000 so clearly low risk and my dd is now 3 and as far as I know absolutely normal! I didn't get any extra scans or anything either.
The anxiety it caused me though was dreadful. I therefore decided not to have the combined screening in my current pregnancy.
