Help! anyone measured under but it's been fine?

Hi just looking for some reassurance (if there is any!) as had a confusing midwife appt today. It didn't go very well as I have raised BP, not feeling well and puffy hands but what worried me most was when they measured me i only measured 34.5 cm, I'm 36+5 and measured 34cm when i last saw her at 34 weeks so the baby's growth has dropped 2 centiles on the chart Confused

She said that the babys head is down further so that's probably why, but filled in a scan request and i'm seeing the consultant tomorrow,

So what I wanted to ask was has anyone else had something similar and everything's been fine? my first pregnancy i measured a cm per week at the end.

Me, at 30 something weeks with my first baby. I had a growth scan and it was fine. Had a huge almost 9lb baby at 39 weeks!

Same thing this pregnancy - told I'm measuring under. The tape measure method is so inaccurate imho. I'm sure everything's fine. X

PamDooveOrangeJoof · 31/03/2015 18:17

I measured 2 weeks behind the whole pregnancy so they sent me for a growth scan. Then they told me my baby was going to be a whopper over 8lbs.

When he was born he was totally average at 7lb6.

It doesn't seem to mean much to be totally honest and seems v inaccurate way to do it!

LadyFlumpalot · 31/03/2015 18:20

Yup - both of mine consistently measured small. With DS I was measuring 30 weeks at 38 weeks.

Both times I had numerous growth scans.

Both babies were over 7lbs.

londonlivvy · 31/03/2015 18:27

Yep. Measured 32 at 32 weeks then 32 at 36 weeks. Referral for a growth scan that very day. scared the bejesus out of me.

In the event, it was a question of lower fluid levels and measuring differences. Dd was on 25th centile when born at 39+4.

yazz21 · 31/03/2015 18:37

Yes. With dd1 measured 2 weeks behind the whole pregnancy. With dd2 was measuring 28 at 32 and then 29 at 34.

Was sent for a growth scan and everything was fine. Her head had just dropped into my pelvis. Smile

dragonflyinthelillies · 31/03/2015 18:44

I was 4-5 weeks behind from about week 32, had an urgent growth scan at 37 weeks. Estimated 7lb2 baby came 5 weeks later at 8lb8.

I'm sure it's all fine!

Redtractorwontsleep · 31/03/2015 18:45

Yes, I was measuring a month behind from about 36 weeks, had an 8lb 10oz baby 12 days overdue!!

Chippednailvarnish · 31/03/2015 18:47

I measured 5 weeks behind at 34 weeks so they induced me. My tiny baby was 6lb 7oz!

Roseybee10 · 31/03/2015 18:47

I was measuring 33 weeks at 37 weeks - MW just said she wouldn't expect me to have a big bump as I was petite all over with this pregnancy. Baby was 6lbs 14oz and born day before due date.

ihatelego · 31/03/2015 18:48

thank you everyone so glad to hear your babies were all ok! fingers crossed for tomorrow then.

I measured smaller and smaller towards the end, but the midwives said it was because dd had dropped and warned of an early birth. They were right - 38 weeks! Good luckThanks

BlueBananas · 31/03/2015 18:52

Yes I was measuring small for a few weeks towards the end, had a growth scan the week before my due date and they said she was fine just small, said she was 5lb 4oz, I gave birth to an 8lb baby 2 weeks later! No idea how they got it quite so wrong?!

TapStepBallChange · 31/03/2015 18:57

I measures small towards the end and had high BP, puffy hands etc.DD is now 6 and absolutely fine. I'm assuming the fact that she never stops moving, talking and doesn't like homework are unrelated to the fact I measured small

CwtchCorner · 31/03/2015 18:58

Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate. My first was 'very large' and was 6 pounds, my second was 'tiny' and was 8 pounds. Both measured small.

HoggleHoggle · 31/03/2015 19:04

I measured small but had a 8lb 8oz baby. Try not to worry and hope all goes well tomorrow.

Psycobabble · 31/03/2015 19:05

I measured behind at all my appointments

Not only was he fine he was 9lb Grin

wafflingworrier · 31/03/2015 19:27

i measured under from 34 weeks onwards with my first baby, my liquid around her was low...cant remember what it's called now. anyway, she was absolutely fine, over 8lbs and on the 50th percentile till she was one.
i hope the scan goes well tomorrow and that you feel reassured.
congratulations on your preganancy and I hope the birth goes well too.

PixieChops · 31/03/2015 21:33

Oh god yes! The sonographer got sick of seeing me for growth scans and actually wrote in my notes at 37 weeks to stop sending me! I was having growth scans every week from about 26 weeks! Lovely seeing the baby but an absolute ball ache. My DD had her head wedged snugly into my pelvis and so I always measured quite a lot under what I was meant to. At 40 weeks I was measuring at 34cm. She was an average weight of 6lb 14ozwhen born and has trailed the 50th percentile since. It's really just to cover their own asses. Please try not to worry, I know it's hard but 9 times out of 10 everything is absolutely fine. Good luck and let us know how everything goes. Smile

Lupylu · 31/03/2015 21:37

I never got over 34cm with DD- growth scan said she was 5lb with very little fluid. Born at 39 wks, 7lb 3 with plenty of fluid!

OhMjh · 31/03/2015 21:41

Measured 2 cm behind from 32 weeks onwards..dd was born at 8lb at 40+12 despite being told I'd 'not have any bigger than an 6'5lb baby' when in labour Hmm

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 31/03/2015 21:46

Me too. DD was 6lb 3oz so small but not tiny. I was certain that the dates the medical staff had were wrong, so much so that I refused induction after 42 weeks, I said I would wait until it was 42 weeks by my calculations too (5 days later). I gave birth naturally before then.

As an aside, I always had raised BP at hospital midwife appointments, I think the stress of them raises hypertension. It was always normal at nice relaxed GP surgery.

Patatas · 31/03/2015 21:50

I measured at least 2 weeks behind all the way through, was told to prepare for early birth and small baby. He was 5 days late and 7lb 12oz.

ChatEnOeuf · 01/04/2015 08:42

Measured 3cms under all through, transverse lie. Growth scans fine, predicted a 6lb baby, born at 5lb 14, given I'm petite that was just fine Smile

2boys2girls · 01/04/2015 08:48

Most people I know have measured small at some point so I think its the 'norm' they said same to me and out popped a nearly 9pounder :)

Cariad007 · 01/04/2015 09:00

I measured under and only put on 10lb in pregnancy but DS was a very healthy 8.5lb and has tracked along on the 91st percentile since!
