How many weeks were you at your booking in appointment?

I Self referred to the midwife at the beginning of last week when I was about 5 weeks pregnant. They took my details and said the midwife would want to see me for the booking in appointment at about 8 weeks and would ring me to arrange an appointment. I gave them my landline number as I am home most of the time but over the next couple of weeks I will be out a lot So I rang them back to add my mobile number on to the referral. The receptionist drew a sharp intake of breath and said I was very early as the midwife won't want to see me until 12 weeks.
Is 12 weeks the norm these days?
I have two children already but they were born over a decade ago and it was usual to see the midwife at 7/8 weeks back then when she would take blood, complete notes and send of a referral for the 1st scan.
When will the first scan be if the booking appointment isn't until 12 weeks?
Do they do the scan at the booking appointments these days?
I now feel old and very out of touch.

Not normal in my area. Here booking appointments are usually at 7/8 weeks and they book in your scan then for 12 weeks. I didn't get in until nearly 10 weeks "because they were busy", add to that Christmas and it meant that I didn't get my scan until what we thought was 13+5. Turned out I was 14 exactly and baby was lying a bit funny so I couldn't have the nt thickness measured. Had I been scanned earlier they would have had me back.It meant I had to wait until 15 weeks and have the quad blood test and was stressful and a total PITA. If I were you I'd get this chased up- one small delay can have knock ons. Either that or out area is just crap. Not impossible! Congratulation.

13, this time (yesterday actually). Booking in, history, weight, b/p, bloods and scan all done in a 2 hour visit.

The lady on the phone seemed very insistent that 12 weeks was the standard (not sure why last weeks receptionists said 8 weeks). It just seems very late to me but I thought maybe things had changed since I was last pregnant (and we lived in a different area then).

Fortunately we have already decided to go for an 8 week private scan as it has taken over 4 years to conceive and we are both quite anxious and still not quite believing that it is happening after all this time. We are also not 100% sure of dates so at least having an early scan will mean that we know we won't miss the NT scan deadline.

I've never had booking in before 12 weeks. Last time was 15. 8 sounds very early to me.

At 15.8 you would be too late to have an NT scan. I don't know what country you are in countess but in the UK women should be able to have a scan before 14 weeks so the NT check can be done. I would pay for a private scan if it was going to be that late, especially as I am over 35.

Has mine at 9 weeks, which got me in the system for the scan at 12 weeks. Try asking your GP practice what is standard for your area.

(15.8 would be 16+1 that was a full stop) We don't get nt scanning anyway.

Not saying you're wrong, just offering a different perspective. I know from friends in the UK they got theirs somewhere about the 12 week mark.

I was told to book for 8 weeks, but got an appointment for 10 weeks instead, but the midwife said that's later than she'd have liked. They book your scan at the booking don't they so you won't have your dating scan on time if you leave it that late surely?

It was somewhere around 9 weeks I think. As long as they book you in for the 12 week scan independently it wouldn't worry me leaving the booking appointment til later. But if you want the NT SCAN, it needs to be before 14 weeks to be most accurate.

Booking in appointment at 11 weeks, and while I was there she rang up the hospital to book my scan which will be at 13 weeks.

I was 12 weeks. Booking in and scan done at the same hospital appointment. That's the norm here. (North West)

About 8 weeks.

Around 12 weeks here. Usually in the same week as the scan. Both letters arrived the same day. Apart from telling you to take folic acid and stop smoking and drinking and other lifestyle advice there's not much useful to be offered at this stage. So many pregnancies are lost before this stage, and if there is something going wrong there's sadly so little to be done. There are a few exceptions, but the people those concern will be aware of it and can seek help from their GP or EPU. Like recurrent MC, diabetics, epileptics.

Is your appointment at a hospital where you could have a scan OP? If not i'd put money on it being a mistake and your appointment is late. I'm only concerned because if you have your dating scan too late the NT test is less accurate.

I have my booking appointment tomorrow (10+6) and my scan will be in a couple of weeks (12+5). I'm in London and they're both at different hospitals.

My GP said I wouldn't be seen til 12 wks, but my booking in appointment was at 7wks. :-)

My booking in was at 10 weeks this time around which is the latest they wanted to do it, ideally it would have been at 8 weeks but appointment availability didn't allow! Any later and I would have worried about getting an appointment through for the 12 week scan in time but I know that in some areas booking and scan are done together - here the booking appt is the trigger for booking the scan so there needs to be a bit of time between the two.

My booking in was 10 weeks, the midwife said it was later than they would've liked (didn't find out I was pregnant until 6 weeks, moved town at 8 weeks and then had to register with new practice etc)

Booking in 8 weeks, scan at 12 with bloods the week before. That's in South London.

They say between 8 and 10 weeks here, mine was at 8 weeks and then I got my scan date through the post for when I'm 12 weeks.

I had booking in at 10 + 4, scan at 12+1, have to have scan by 13+6 I think but think that is for nuchal?

Booked in at 8 weeks, did my bloods, gave me my file and sent details of to hospital for 12 week scan. Second apt roughly booked in for 16 weeks - at which they gave me my blood results taken at booking in.

You need to call back and ask for the midwifes line and speak to her. Normally booking in done before the 12 weeks so they can send your details off for the scan.

I think it might be but I'm not 100% sure as we had a different GP in a different area last time I was pregnant. I didn't refer through the GP, I just looked on the NHS website and rang the number that it gave for self referral, perhaps if I had gone through the GP he might have explained it all.
The local hospital has a midwifery led unit so I imagine that all my antenatal care could take place at the hospital, in which case I would probably have the scan at the same time as the booking in appointment so 12 weeks would make sense.
