I Self referred to the midwife at the beginning of last week when I was about 5 weeks pregnant. They took my details and said the midwife would want to see me for the booking in appointment at about 8 weeks and would ring me to arrange an appointment. I gave them my landline number as I am home most of the time but over the next couple of weeks I will be out a lot So I rang them back to add my mobile number on to the referral. The receptionist drew a sharp intake of breath and said I was very early as the midwife won't want to see me until 12 weeks.
Is 12 weeks the norm these days?
I have two children already but they were born over a decade ago and it was usual to see the midwife at 7/8 weeks back then when she would take blood, complete notes and send of a referral for the 1st scan.
When will the first scan be if the booking appointment isn't until 12 weeks?
Do they do the scan at the booking appointments these days?
I now feel old and very out of touch.

Booking in at 8 weeks and at the end of the appointment they booked my 12 week scan (for exactly 12 weeks)

Mine have been at 11 weeks both times

Either have booking in at gp practice with midwife around 8-10 weeks then gp for 12 week dating scan at hospital OR have booking in at hospital at same time as scan. Just an admin appointment either way, then next see midwife at 16 weeks. With second child do not see them that often ( 8,16,28...) as I have discovered.

11 weeks

10 weeks here and that was earlier than usual due to Christmas and New Year.

It depends on the NHS trust. Where I am you have the choice of seeing your midwife at your Drs surgery, she is there every other week.

Usually she would have seen me between 10 and 12 and so I got in "early".

At booking in I gave a urine sample and had blood taken.

Our scans are booked separately through the hospital. My first scan was at 12 weeks. At the scan I booked for my next (20 week) scan.

I then saw my midwife again at 18 weeks but I understand that this is a bit later than most areas where women are seen at 16 weeks.

All pregnancies in the same area, first in 2005 and last in 2014. It varies. The last 3 booking appointments were done after my dating scan at my request due to previous miscarriages.

At 11+6, as the midwife was on holiday then I was. It's usually around 8 weeks here, but then you have to go back for a second lot of bloods as the bloods used for the triple test (I think) need to be taken after 10 weeks. Am slightly concerned whether I'll get am appointment in time for NT scan though!

DanyStormborn · 26/02/2015 19:23

11 weeks, but bloods not till 12 weeks.

Marmite27 · 26/02/2015 19:36

Today! 7+6.

I had height, weight, blood pressure, blood and urine taken.

Did the paperwork for at scan, and gave me the form for exemption cert.

I have a notes folder and an appointment for 16 weeks.

neversleepagain · 26/02/2015 21:36
