ok, tomorrow i'll be 40 weeks (this is my first baby) and im getting more and more worried about going out incase my waters decided to flood morrisons or something lol. bit silly really, i know, but im starting to annoy myself with how much i seem to be worrying that i'll be out and about when my waters break.

so, i was just wondering...where were you when your waters broke, did you have any warning at all, and how was the situation dealt with??

cheers all

in the birth pool with ds1 and in labour with ds2 qucly followed by him

Bozza · 23/10/2006 21:46

With DS I was on a hospital bed and had been pushing for an hour - and in labour for several hours. With DD I was stood by the side of my bed at home, and she was born 2 mins later.

I always find that pickled onions tip amusing. Was thinking about this standing in the queue at John Lewis the other day (40 weeks pregnant, lots of expensive fabric around to splash on). I have actually decided that I would be more embarassed to drop a jar of pickled onions than for my waters to break in public.

MadamePlatypus · 23/10/2006 21:54

With DS I had them broken to induce labour. Booked in on Thursday to have waters broken for DC2. If they break before then it will either be at my house or when picking up or dropping DS1 at nursery. Atleast the staff at nursery are used to cleaning the floor, but I suppose there might be a few surprised toddlers.

Frizombie · 23/10/2006 21:56

Mine never broke on either occasion, dd1 the mw broke them at 10cm, as I just couldn't get them to go and they wanted dd1 out! she obliged 40mins later (pethadine had kicked in, so I was a bit dozey!) dd2 I broke them with pushing this time! again at 10cm and she was born 13mins later (better timeing!)

danceswiththedevil · 23/10/2006 21:57

In my neighbours back garden. I had just been round for a coffee, stood up to leave and thought I'd wet myself (little gush, not the whole thing) - I went dashing off down the side alley instead of going back through the house - didn't want to leave a trail behind me

busybusymum · 23/10/2006 22:01

with all four mine didnt break until i was in hospital. one was assisted by a MW. the others just happened. one was just as a poor doctor sat on my bed to talk about how it was going and gush all over his suit!

Katy44 · 24/10/2006 07:18

I have to say this is something I have worried about (even though I'm only 14 weeks)
LMAO at the pickled onion tip - it's a good one, but knowing my luck the jar wouldn't break so I'd just be stood there in a huge puddle next to a jar of pickled onions!!

Katy44 · 24/10/2006 07:18

It's good to know it mostly happens when you're already in labour

edam · 24/10/2006 07:42

At home tidying up. My waters kept going - no-one had warned me that it wouldn't necessarily be one big gush. So as I cleaned one lot off the carpet, more arrived... gave up in the end! Carried on all the way to hospital, while booking in, etc. etc. etc. No-one was bothered in the slightest (except me, we'd just had new carpets put down)!

BudaBeast · 24/10/2006 07:46

Though it was going to happen in local butchers - stood there buying chicken and felt somethign strange. Just prayed it wouldn't happen then. Was 5 days before due date too. Went to bed that night and was rubbing cream into my feet and pop!

Was staying with parents. Mum asleep having taken a sleeping tab - couldn't wake her. Dad in pub. Typical!

Went to hosp. Kept me in over night but nothing happened so ended up back home next morning. DS induced and born 36 hours later.

jeanjeannie · 24/10/2006 09:53

Mine went 2 weeks ago at just 29 weeks. I thought that was it - but two weeks on, with a short stay in hospital and now twice-weekly monitoring I'm still hanging on. And while water is low, it's replenishing. I thought when they were gone - they were gone, but luckily baby has other ideas!

LadyOfTheFlowersAKA2Babies0Bum · 24/10/2006 10:03

mine went in the birth pool both times!

LadyOfTheFlowersAKA2Babies0Bum · 24/10/2006 10:05

but ds2 was 'born in the bag'!!

FoghornLeghorn · 24/10/2006 10:06

Mine went at 4am with DD - I was lying on the sofa (had been there all week as I had sinusitus and was trying not to disturb DH). Woke up and noticed I felt a bit odd down there so went to the toilet and ws pretty sure it was my waters but luckuily they were only trickling.
By the time we got the the hospital though they gushed in the labour room and I had to tie my jumper around my waist to disguise my very wet jeans on the way home.

wuzzlefraggle · 24/10/2006 11:38

in the shower!
wasnt sure if i was imagining it, turns out to be just forewaters, hind waters had to be broken for me in hospital.
contractions started straight away after shower!

princessmel · 25/10/2006 10:55

I used to sleep with a towel under the sheet in bed for the last few weeks of pregnancy to protect the mattress. It worked too!

sleepfinder · 25/10/2006 11:11

I was in bed - (12.30am)at home
and they kept on coming
in the car
in the forecourt of the hospital
in the loo by reception
in the lift
on the hospital bed
until they stopped eventually around 4am...

Both cases I was on the loo - not quite sure how I managed that one and don't think I could be so lucky again - especially as the day before I had been out all day!

millysimmons · 27/10/2006 10:52

Had them broken in hosptial, thank goodness as was told they where like the niagra falls & they certainly felt like it! Being dozy I was surprised at how warm it felt & they went on for ages!!!

moljam · 27/10/2006 10:57

waters broke gradually with dd,i thought i was wetting my self for a few days,my mum said i really think you need to tell midwife!

lollipopz · 27/10/2006 11:10

Hi, with dd#1 i was in the hodpital already as contractions had started, with dd#2 was sitting on the sofa in my house when dd#1 jumped on my knee and 'pop', this was about 10 am, dd#2 was born at 5am the next day, and the water was pouring out me the whole time from that first 'pop', dunno where the hell it all came from!! lol xx
