ok, tomorrow i'll be 40 weeks (this is my first baby) and im getting more and more worried about going out incase my waters decided to flood morrisons or something lol. bit silly really, i know, but im starting to annoy myself with how much i seem to be worrying that i'll be out and about when my waters break.

so, i was just wondering...where were you when your waters broke, did you have any warning at all, and how was the situation dealt with??

cheers all

sainbury nappies are cr*p IMO - I'd go for Tesco

frumpygrumpy · 23/10/2006 15:58

At home and in hospital but always in labour.

Mine went halfway down the stairs as I was trying to climb down the stairs to get to the car en route to hospital. Remember thinking "oh boy we'll need a new carpet" but when we got back it was dry, no stain or pong as I was expecting .

We did eventually get a new carpet though.

wuzzlefraggle · 23/10/2006 16:00

thanks for all the well wishes must admit, me and dh are very excited! me (to be honest), i'll be very glad to stop feeling like ive been kicked in the fanjo every morning

HRHQoQ - i hope that you have a happy, healthy pregnancy (and you, Squishy) oh, and that sod doesnt try to take over and get you induced lol. they do say that 3rd times lucky...

i dunno what to do now...go on as normal, or try and spend as much time as physically possible on the throne

Just go on as normal - otherwise you'll end up bitterly disappointed when your waters are broken for you just about you're about to push .

I am hoping it's 3rd time lucky and my body finally realises that it's supposed to do something when baby is coming !

mumfor1standfinaltime · 23/10/2006 16:03

It is worrying towards the end and I didn't dare venture out of the house!
My waters broke in bed, just a little trickle. I got up thinking I needed a wee, and as I reached the bathroom there was a flood all over the floor!
Hope all goes well for you!

Flamebat · 23/10/2006 16:07

In hospital during labour with DD... in bathroom, during labour with DS.

wuzzlefraggle · 23/10/2006 16:09

yeah, its silly being so worried about it really. i just couldnt help picturing the face of a granny out shopping for her veg and me half drowning her with my waters lol.
HRHQoQ - im sure that all will go well and that you'll start off yourself this time (hope it does, and i'll make sure to keep and eye on how things go for you ) try reverse psychology on yourself to trick your waters and contractions or something

mumfor1st - good to hear that im not the only one that panicked about this lol

in Costco at the checkout . No major gush thank god. No contractions, 38 weeks.

it's the most natural thing in the world; try not to worry about it!

LOL at Alfred, Aitch

wuzzlefraggle · 23/10/2006 16:11

ok...so judging by the majority of answers on here...it seems that most people were in labour when their waters went

you lot have all been great with the replies by the way, just wanted to thank everyone again

For the first two waters were broken artificially to try and speed up or get labour going. With #3 waters broke at a crematorium service . Luckily it was only fore-waters so just a trickle rather than huge puddle. Dived into loo immediately after and padded out knickers with loo paper. Went on to church memorial service & tried to sit on edge of seat in limo and church sort of leaning back to try & prevent too much leakage & allow maximum evaporation (it was v hot day). Don't think anyone noticed - dh certainly didn't.

Tippytoes · 23/10/2006 16:37

Mine went at home at 7.30 am, had a show the day before, and was still doing my last week in work - needless to say I didn't turn up that day! Didn't have any contractions until later that day, but had to go straight into hospital as DS was 5 weeks early!

Pinewood · 23/10/2006 16:44

With my first I woke up felt a bit damp down there went to the loo and gush! I was 40+2 it was a while ago so can't remember when I had the show but think it was the night before?? Didn't get any contractions until later in the same morning.

littleducks · 23/10/2006 16:53

DD was born in her waters, it was lovely she was so clean which was perfect for my squeamish husband who always looked at babies covered in blood/vernix on tv with a scared look on his face!

prettymummified · 23/10/2006 17:00

both times in delivery room!!
dc1- midwife popped me
dc2- i was too out of it with gas n air to realise it had gone, midwife didnt even realise as i had a sanitary towel on.

In Brixton market - but leaky rather than gushy, so I just walked home as briskly as I could.

franca70 · 23/10/2006 17:26

with both my children, mine broke when I was almost fully dilated, so I was in hospital. If I remember well, in the majority of casesd waters break during full labour. all the best

ScummyMummy · 23/10/2006 17:26

Harrow Road, in similar fashion to blu. Walked on, pleased that I was wearing black.

agalch · 23/10/2006 17:38

Mine went like this

ds1 during labour
ds2 while xmas shopping, went to boots and bought maternity pads, and then carried on my xmas shopping[only had a little left to do]
dd1 went as i was getting back into bed in the morning, trickled and gushed from thurs morning till i had her on sat afternoon.
dd2 had them ruptured by the consultant in theatre after being prepped for an emergency cs.I had a possible vasa previa so waters had to be broken whilst i was hooked up to moniter etc.Happily all was fine.
Was strange to have legs akimbo with half a dozen folk looking bored at the sight of my fanjo lol.Even stranger to have my feet splashing around the in the waters after they went with a massive gush.

TuttiFrutti · 23/10/2006 17:45

Had them broken by a midwife in hospital after 16 hours of labour. Don't know if they'd ever have broken on their own!
