I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks, yeah he gets a bit annoyed that I'm not managing to do all house work ect but doesn't seem to understand how hard it is. When I do get busy about the house it makes me sick.
He also wants to work extra hours so isn't here often when I could do with his help with my older son and he could do with him taken him out ect.
Typical men tho if it was the
Other way round we wouldn't have children lol

dillydollydarling · 06/03/2015 14:03

I found that my OH struggled to understand to start with. I think when I ended up in hospital for the second time he realised it was bad. It also didn't help that he was out at work a lot so didn't see how bad I was. Once he saw that I struggled to do anything without vomiting or at least heaving, he seemed to get it a bit more.

Hellohellohowareyou · 06/03/2015 15:33

eallison when I tore mine it was bright red blood, quite large clots. I took a pic on my phone and showed my doc (I won't share here Grin) and they gave me some tablets to help it heal plus gaviscon to stop any acid aggravating it. He wasn't overly concerned, said it's fairly common when someone has been vomiting daily for weeks on end.
I'm so glad I'm on four hours a day, sometimes I think I could now manage more but most of the time 4 hours is enough!
23 weeks now and still lighter than I was pre pregnancy too, that's the only positive part of having HG for me!

Hellohellohowareyou · 06/03/2015 15:39

Plus I'm even more grateful of the reduced hours as DS has an awful cold and has been waking up numerous times a night which is tiring me out!

BlueberryWafer · 06/03/2015 16:49

Hope all is going well, Durham.

I'm 38+4 now and really fed up. Can't even keep water down today. No signs that labour is on it's way either. I honestly feel like labour will be a welcome relief because there will be some other pain to take my mind off this vomiting (although I vomited severely the whole way through my first labour). Just want the baby out now. Not being offered a sweep til 41 weeks either...

MotherofPearl · 06/03/2015 16:52

Hello everyone, it's been a very long time indeed since I was on this thread, but it was invaluable in getting me through the dark days of HG back in 2011. So pleased to see that lovely Lucinda is still doing such a great job of giving support and information. Also great to see that Kalidasa has had a second baby - I remember her from the first time! DP and I have recently been contemplating a third DC, but we're both pretty anxious about reliving another 9 months of HG hell. I guess I'd be better prepared this time around, but with a 7 year old, a 3 year old and a FT job, I'm wondering whether I'm mad to be thinking of it at all! Anyway, to all of you current sufferers, do hang in there. HG is the absolute pits, nobody who's not been there knows how truly all-encompassingly awful it is. But try to hang onto the thought that at least there will always be an endpoint, and the support on here really helps to keep up your spirits. :)

eallison88 · 06/03/2015 16:59

Blueberry, that sounds horrid. I have every intention of an early c section (37weeks) if I'm still vomiting regularly... now I'm worried I won't be allowed! you are so so close to meeting your bundle tho.... 38 weeks feels like I very very long way away right now!

being down to 4 hours today was brilliant. only had 1 little vom at work and then was able to come home, have next dose of meds, eat then sleep. So right now I don't feel awful! Not brill either, but not awful and that's the important thing.

theboatisleaking · 06/03/2015 17:02

Eallison I'm glad your hubby's being supportive. Mine doesn't mind being next to me when I vomit but he does get bit intrusive at times... yesterday he followed me into bathroom and snapped photos of me throwing up 'for the family album'!! He thought it was 'cute' Confused
I'm 11 weeks, severe nausea and vomiting 4-5xday, not on any meds as can't face trip to doctors and GP said on phone they are 'a last resort'!?! My throat feels red-raw :-( Managing to eat but feel really down. Hubby thinks I should get out and get more fresh air but I just want to hide away at home.

Meerka · 06/03/2015 18:05

blueberry if you can't keep even water down today at 38.4 weeks I think you should ring your doctor as an emergency. They might say it's ok but at this stage I really think it needs checking.

theboat meds are NOT the last resort. cyclizine + B6 are absolutely known to be safe. If you can, ask your husband to get them from the pharmacy. Just don't tell them you're preg. You don't have to endure this.

At the very least please pick up some Ketostix from the chemist, you pee on them and the darker you go, the more dehydrated you are. if it comes up as 3+++ you need urgent medical attention. Less severe, you should get a docs appointment for some help.

ealli glad you're having a bit-better day

MotherofPearl hello ... brave, brave woman! :)

Littlemiss20 · 06/03/2015 19:00

That great ealison that ur hubby has been so supportive thing he need to pass that on to mine lol xx

eallison88 · 06/03/2015 19:07

theboatisleaking that's awful. I would turn round and aim my vomit at mu hubby if he did that!
Also,as meerka says, drugs are not last resort. They are bloody necessary if you are being sick that regularly. Try a different gp,your doc sounds like a Numpty.

Skiptonlass · 06/03/2015 19:18

ended up in acute care (kind of AandE for gynae here) today. Got rehydrated and oh.my.god. Feel human again. Seriously, better than I have in weeks. I perked up so much the doc said she wasn't going to give me meds but to really watch the fluids. She suggested flat coke (which I loathe) and baby food. Bloods were broadly normal but I was severely dehydrated.

I'm in awe of how much better a couple of litres of saline can make you feel, and how fast. It's also been a lesson to me that I was not drinking enough, even though I was sipping a lot.
Was told to come back immediately if it happens again (I hadnt peed in twelve hours.)

Meerka · 06/03/2015 19:49

skipton so glad you got good treatment fast. Apparently dehydration screws the electrolyte balances badly and rehydration corrects them ... that in itself makes you feel way better

would sucking ice chips help? or drinking through a straw. some people find v hot or v cold drinks help. anything that works for you.

Skiptonlass · 06/03/2015 20:09

Yes, it's amazing how fast it worked...and it showed me what a total state I was in. She basically said to me to try to get three litres a day down me, and not just water. I don't like fizzy pop at all but she said to have at least two big glasses of fruit juice or pop a day... I'm actually wondering if there was something else in the drip? She only spoke Russian and swedish so there was a lot of miming involved... :)

I hadn't thought of straws, I'll give it a shot. I can see how that might work. Ice isn't great for me, anything hot or cold sets me off.

I felt like such a moaning Minnie going there but I'm so glad I did. And honestly, I don't think I would have if I hadn't read through people's experiences here, so THANK YOU to everyone.

Ladies, we put up with a lot and say we're "fine" too much. Push for the care you need!

BlueberryWafer · 06/03/2015 20:30

I phoned the hospital and was basically told to get on with it Hmm so looks like I'm stuck vomiting and dehydrated til I finally go into labour and then will get offered fluids...

Meerka · 06/03/2015 20:32

HG is the worst many people have felt in their whole lives and because it's rare, people don't have the first clue. Or even worse, they have 1% of a clue from their own experience of morning sickness, so they think they understand. But they don't.

You're not a moaning minnie.

Meerka · 06/03/2015 20:35

oh blimey blueberry :(

can you ring the Pregnancy Sickness Support helpline and ask if the elderly, very experienced doctor can ring you back? I don't want to alarm you but some professional assessment from an experienced doctor does sound like a good idea right now.

Skiptonlass · 06/03/2015 21:20

Blueberry that is awful. I don't know what to suggest. Seriously, why on earth do some medical professionals think like this? I hope you get some help.

Meerka · 06/03/2015 21:23

sorry blueberry i think i overreacted there badly. Not thinking very clearly atm at all, still got a temp of 38.8 degrees (poor kids generously gave me the fever that's been hanging round school). Many apologies, I really overreacted.

BlueberryWafer · 06/03/2015 21:26

You didn't overreact Meerka don't worry Smile just going to try and get a bit of sleep while my toddler is asleep, see how I'm feeling in the morning.

Meerka · 06/03/2015 21:39

hope you can get a bit of deep and refreshing sleep

Littlemiss20 · 06/03/2015 21:59

Meerka I don't think your overreacting people don't understand if they haven't suffered it! The think it's the same as their morning sickness and the coped so why can't you.
Sorry ur struggling to get medication to blueberry my GP is very reluctant. Although today I have had my worst day and managed to keep no food down and very little fluids. It's very hard when even health professionals don't understand

DurhamRed · 07/03/2015 05:27
