Here we go, as promised...

Yes Dino, I am M2T. Not in disguise though, just got really bored of my name.

So this thread can be a record of the last half of our pregnancies. I'm going to print out the original as a nice log of the first 5 months of the pregnancy.

This is thread we'll all be posting on when we go into labour!! I'm all excited now.

Can't remember when you are due Sponge - is it beginning or end of the month? I sort of feel that if I don't get my skates on and get ready for this baby then she's guaranteed to be early and I'll have to send dh out with a list - not something either of us are keen on.

On another, practical note, what has everyone decided about nappies? Disposables or reusables?

Any news Toothache? Are the pains still coming?

Toothache · 03/07/2004 17:17

Muriwai - I've bought a few newborn vests and that's about it. The rest will probably be 0-3mths. I have decided to take the big leap into using re-usable nappies! I bought the nappies 2nd hand from a Mumsnetter and bought the wraps from a friend. I'm going to buy a roll of polyester fleece for the lining and just cut my own.... as recommended by another Mumsnetter. I've got 3 packs of disposable newborn nappies there to use at first though as I won't start using them until I'm back on my feet! I'm still planning to use disposables some of the time (perhaps at night and when out and about).

The pains are still coming, but are much less painful (or have I got used to them??). The painkillers should be wearing off shortly so will know for sure by then. I've drank loads of water though, so hopefully I'm combatting an infection before it gets out of hand.

Don't say that toothache you'll have me worried. Glad I'm not the only one who gets up like a 100 year old from a chair these days.

I've got a mixture of newborn and 0-3 months, more on the 0-3 months though.

sponge · 03/07/2004 17:20

August 4th so about as early in the month as possible.
I'm either disorganised or very laid back depending on your point of view .

I'm a disposable nappy girl I'm afraid. It may not be good for the environment but I like to bundle that poo up in frangranced cellophane and have it out of the house asap, not soaking in a bucket.
I'm sure you will get plenty of recommendations on the joy and ease of resuables though if you fancy that route.

muriwai · 03/07/2004 17:43

I'm due the 2nd - so even earlier , but seeing as I'm a first timer you'll probably beat me to it Sponge.

I'm leaning towards the reusable route. I have to admit the thought of smelly, soaking nappies doesn't thrill me either, but the money saving side is very appealing and apparently you can get away without soaking them. But I think I'll just use the flushable liners - I'm not quite as keen as you Toothache .

Toothache · 03/07/2004 17:45

Muriwai - I was going to use the flushable ones until my friend told me that they wrinkle up inside the nappy and don't catch anything! And I've not heard anyone on Mumsnet with a good report on them either. I'm going to give it a try.... good intentions and all that though!

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 03/07/2004 18:15

I think I'm going to use disposables as well I know they are so so bad for the environment but I think I will have enough to cope with being a first time mum. Also we currently live in a flat and have no outside drying facilities or tumble drier so I would have to invest in a new washer/dryer and surely all the electricity used would also be bad for the environment.

Was going to ask, I've been having tingling sensations low down in my pelvis (not that kind before you ask)not painful just wierd sensations. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be the babies head engaging? When does this happen?

Toothache · 03/07/2004 18:20

SK - I would never have been brave enough to try washable ones with my 1st.... and I didn't have a tumble-dryer. So definitely NO WAY. But this time we have a tumble dryer and I have a friend with lots of experience, so it's giving me a bit of confidence. DH isn't convinced though!!

Tingling could be the babies head pressing on the nerves in your pelvis.... which could mean the head has engaged. That's probably about right for your first... you're about 35wks at the mo? Ds's head engaged at 36/37wks and he was born at 39. Now would be a good time to start drinking your Raspberry Leaf Tea.

OP posts:
sponge · 03/07/2004 18:22

Could be engaging any time now SK.
I've been getting that feeling too - kind of a slightly grindy sort of pressure. As you say, odd, a bit uncomfortable, but not painful.

sponge · 03/07/2004 18:23

Toothache IMO there is no good time to start drinking raspberry leaf tea - it's foul /

muriwai · 03/07/2004 18:26

Haven't had that myself SK, and I'm not sure when the head's supposed to engage. Isn't it supposed to be earlier for first-time mums?

As for disposables, I wouldn't feel guilty at all - you have to go with what's going to be most practical for you. I might follow Toothache's example and use disposables for the first few weeks until I find my feet (or my mum arrives from Canada to help with the washing )

Toothache · 03/07/2004 18:34

Well the pains are back! The painkillers must have worn off.
That's one just passed... a really dull aching low down on my left side.... followed by the dull back ache again. >sigh

sponge · 03/07/2004 18:37

I think you should be getting off home to put your feet up Toothache. We don't want you giving birth on the bus in the rush hour now.

Toothache · 03/07/2004 18:42

lol Sponge.
I'll get a lift to Ds's Nursery then we'll get the bus home together. DH won't be home until 7pm though.... then I can put my feet up.

sweetkitty · 03/07/2004 22:46

Hope your OK toothache keep us updated. Do you have a PC at home? I think you are going to beat me to it .

Not brave enough to drink RLT but bought the capsules for Holland and Barratt today will start on half dose and work my way up.

Still sorting out buying a car so I can actually get to the hospital.

sibble · 03/07/2004 23:19

toothache, hope things subsided, let us know.
I'm in the re-usable nappy camp too, the only things I've bought, they arrived thsi week. Used disposables last time as went back to work f/t but don't plan on doing that this time so will give it a go. Will start with disposables for first few weeks though while get back on my feet - fat chance of DH washing them!!
this babies head has engaged as well, am also getting the 'tingling' who left teh football between my legs feeling at times. Havn't bought a thing apart from the nappies am waiting for a parcel to arrive from mum in England but was told yesterday by midwife, better get bag packed this baby might not be far away etc....panic panic am only 34 weeks today too soon yet.....early but not this early would be good. start the raspberry leaf /cohosh birthing concoction today - hold your nose, take after meals and don't wretch is what they say - charming.
well off to work soon, only 2 weeks to go - hurray.

NottsMum · 04/07/2004 00:52

Only read a bit of this thread but you can buy raspberry leaf tablets. I read it on a thread a couple of months ago so if you do a search on MN you'll no doubt find it - I think it said where are mums had bought it. (Probaby Holland & Barrett)

Toothache · 04/07/2004 10:54

Hi everyone - the pains have calmed down a lot and I'm starting to think that perhaps it was the warning signs of another infection. I was up 3 times through the night to pee! I'm going to keep drinking loads of fluids. The baby has got itself into a really uncomfortable position too, with it's feet digging right into my left side. ... I keep having to push it's foot away!

I have totally ballooned! I am so puffy, even the backs of my hands look full of fluid. DH thinks I should rush up to the Doctors and get my BP checked out, but I feel okay... no headaches or flashy lights or anything. I think it's just time to stop working....

.... which is good COZ IT'S MY LAST DAY TODAY!!! I can feel lots of Mumsnetting coming on.

I have a PC at home, but it's really slow. However, noone has asked me to return my laptop so it's coming home with me.
I woke up at 2.30am this morning in a total panic about what will happen if I go into labour when I'm alone with DS???!?? My Mum and DH will be at least 45mins away.
I don't know if any of you read the thread about being treated like an idiot on the labour ward, but Midden offered to be my Doula FREE OF CHARGE (just petrol expenses). So she phoned last night and we had a great chat. She's going to come round next week to talk properly. I just can't believe what a generous offer that is.

S'pose I'd better start deleted all my personal files off the email system.... ho hum.... it's a hard life.

Morning Toothache, make sure you relish your final day! Are you planning on returning?
Excellent news about Midden, hope it makes you less anxious about the day. I know what you mean about being on your own with other little one, I have visions of giving birth at home with DD's doctor set!!!!!
Make sure you keep posting when you go, mind!!
xxx

Toothache · 04/07/2004 11:02

Thanks Littelrach - Oh I couldn't go more than a few days without posting on Mumsnet. Lucjily 2 days out of the week ds will be at Nursery and one day he'll be at my Mums. But it's still scary eh? I just keep thinking how distressing it will be for him. My labour became quite strong very quckly last time. I was in hospital and one minute I was saying "oh this is the early stages fo labour!!" the next minute I was being helped back to bed after a massive contraction as I tried to phone DH!
However, my poor ds has been made to endure the Discovery Health baby programmes for ages now and when they come on he says "Man telling th elady to push push push!"..... hmmm perhaps I should stop him watching them.

littlerach · 04/07/2004 11:04

Same here, last time I went from 2 - 10 cm in less than an hr, and MW didn't believe me!

Being on mat leave had made my mn addiction even worse - I am supposed to be packing and chasing solicitors, I end up "just checking" active conversations!! And eating cake!!!!

sweetkitty · 04/07/2004 12:15

Started the Raspberry Leaf tablets last night and had a really good nights sleep as well (no peeing in night). On a half day today So jealous of you finishing today toothache I have lost all interest in work now and just want to go.

Going to spend the afternoon getting insurance quotes

muriwai · 04/07/2004 13:11

I'm very jealous too Toothache, but it does sound like you could do with putting your feet up. And I can't complain - only four more days for me - next Monday is my last day! How much longer have you got SK?

Those raspberry leaf tablets sound like a good idea - are they really supposed to get things started? I might wait till next week before I start taking them - I don't really want db to show up too early!

Toothache · 04/07/2004 13:18

Am I the ONLY person on the planet that doesn't mind the taste of RLT???

OP posts:
muriwai · 04/07/2004 13:22

Have to admit I've never tasted it, but if it's anything like other fruit teas, I think I'll stick to the tablets. And what's this 'cohosh' stuff that Sibble was talking about?
