My taste buds have totally changed so struggling to eat a wide range of meat based meals. (Basically can only just tolerate mince [in different forms] and fish)

Can't wait for things to go back to "normal".

What are you not eating at the moment that will be/is on your "scoffing as soon as possible after birth"?

Mine is hot fresh baguette with pate for breakfast lunch and dinner...... okay maybe just lunch

And a medium done STEAK! with blue cheese dressing yum yum yum

Tranquilitybaby · 22/01/2015 10:09

Medium rare steak and runny yolk eggs.

Tranquilitybaby · 22/01/2015 10:14

Ah thanks touch, I never knew that! Wish the nhs would keep upto dare with info.

No if you could find me an article that says rare steak is ok, I'll be your best friend! Grin

McNally · 22/01/2015 10:46

Gooey Brie. Red wine. Gin and tonics. Mmmmmmmm!

TouchPauseEngage · 22/01/2015 10:48

tranquility buy Expecting Better by Emily Oster!

Her advice on steak is based on US stats so she does advise avoiding it (their animal welfare and meat processing standards are way below ours) however, the main risk in rare beef is toxoplasmosis.
The incidences of toxoplasmosis in UK cattle are absolutely tiny. You would have to be very unlucky to get a steak with it in. Even if you did then there is a good chance you have already been infected in the past without realising it in which case eating infected meat would have no effect on you at all as you are immune. This is much more likely if you have owned a cat or spend a lot of time digging in soil as a kid.

You can get tested to see if you have the immunity and in which case you can eat steak with no risks at all. For me, I was confortable that the risks from steak were low enough to continue eating it.

This document is a bit wordy but explains incidences of toxo in the UK and European food chain. Basically don't eat rare chicken or pork (boak) and wash your fruit and veg so it has no soil on it.

Ive read it thanks touch. I'm quite relaxed about most things but for some reason that worries me, I don't know why. I suffered food posioning after a chinese when pregnant with my son and it was awful.

fortywinx · 22/01/2015 11:44

A bacon, brie and cranberry baguette.
Crunchy french stick slices smothered in pate.
A delicious, cool cider.
A Peperami.

plinkyplonks · 22/01/2015 12:56

A glass of champagne would be lovely! :D

supersalmon1 · 22/01/2015 13:43

An enormous gin and tonic. Not due until July so I've got a long wait!

Jackiebrambles · 22/01/2015 13:52

I've been eating runny eggs too. I didn't last pregnancy but I read the lion stamp thing and love them. Plus they are healthy so have to be good for me!

I am looking forward to a massive glass of wine. And a cool pint of Aspalls cider. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Number3cometome · 22/01/2015 13:57

Stella cidre (pear one)
Brie / any soft cheese going
Parma ham
Chorizo
Rare steak
Pate

My mouth is watering, how dare you bring this to my attention again Grin

14+4 (only 25+3 to go!)

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 22/01/2015 14:13

forty you can have a bacon and Brie baguette if the Brie is hot/melted all the way through Smile

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 22/01/2015 14:15

I haven't Touch but would be interested to read it. I think pregnant women are made to feel guilty about so many things and it's hard enough as it is without feeling like you can't eat/drink anything. That's why I tend to do my own research and make my own decision based on the risks.

Number3cometome · 22/01/2015 14:17

Oh and my usual 10 cups of tea WITH CAFFEINE!!

cowbiscuits · 22/01/2015 15:25

Oh yeahhh Pate. Mmmmm. On warm crusty bread. And Brie.

I had a small glass of wine with food over christmas. Was nice but I'm not really missing it.

When we brought DS home from hospital DH had gone out and bought me pate, brie, and wine. Turned out I'd had a (surprisingly nice) dinner in the hospital and wasn't hungry.

Overtiredbackagain · 22/01/2015 16:43

Wine

Wine
Wine
Oh and wine! Grin

geekymommy · 22/01/2015 18:30

Smoked salmon
Wine
Cheese in restaurants, where I can't check whether they're pasteurized or not
When I finish breastfeeding, I will scarf down sushi grade ahi and yellowtail until I am as mad as a hatter from all the mercury Smile

weeblueberry · 22/01/2015 20:16

Why aren't you eating smoked salmon geekymommy? If it's because you're worried about it, it's on the safe list. Smile

geekymommy · 23/01/2015 13:24

Smoked salmon is a listeria risk. Here in the US, they tell us to avoid it. In fact, some smoked salmon was recently recalled here for listeria contamination. I made DH get me a bagel with lox when I was in the hospital after DD was born.

plinkyplonks · 23/01/2015 13:39

It shouldn't be in on the safe list :/

www.nhs.uk/conditions/Listeriosis/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Jackiebrambles · 23/01/2015 13:41

But butter is also on that page as having a listeria risk.

Are pregnant women people not going to eat butter too?!

I did some googling ages ago about instances of listeria in the UK. The instances are extremely low.

avocadotoast · 23/01/2015 13:57

This article is a little old now, but I found it extremely helpful/reassuring when I first found out I was pregnant: www.theguardian.com/society/2007/may/29/health.medicineandhealth

But then, as others have said, each to their own. Just woe betide anyone who tries to come between me and food I've researched though (as happened at a party recently... Raaaage).

weeblueberry · 23/01/2015 14:33

If you're in the US geeky then obviously I understand you following their rules. Maybe smoked salmon is more at risk there - I didn't realise you weren't in the UK. Smile

I think starting to say whether things should or shouldn't be on the safe list is a bit of a slippery slope though. Technically listeria can be found in prepackaged sandwiches and salad too. But clearly risk assessment has been done and they've deemed these not to be at risk. I assume it's the same for smoked salmon here in the UK.

Jackieharris · 23/01/2015 14:42

I'd read that it was ok now to eat soft eggs with the British lion mark on them.

I had soft eggs last night without a second thought.

blowinahoolie · 23/01/2015 15:29

Pate would be nice, had to miss out on that at Christmas whilst everyone else was stuffing their faces...
