Has anyone else had weird cravings?

I started off with ice cold water, which isnt too bad! Then went onto anything with gravy!

Now today it just took a weird turn, on the way back from my midwife appt I called into the local chip shop and bought a carton of mushy peas Just them on their own and came home and sat and ate them with a fork!

TheUnholyTrinity · 16/10/2006 14:31

ooo gravy with everything sounds goooood

at the mo it's cake and custard
ANY mint choclate(way too much of it)
I had a good few weeks of kfc cravings and was eating the wraps about 3 times a week. That also happened last pregnancy lol

julezboo · 16/10/2006 14:33

Trinity - I think KFC make most of their money from pregnant ladies, I also had this with ds and this one!

Julezboo! Open the windows when you get home!!!

When does a craving become a craving? Is it if you've just gotta have it there and then or if you just right fancy something? I've been so lucky, this is my first bubs and I had no sickness and no cravings. Have been extremley tired though. Just had a phase of wanting cheese on toast and salad cream, but then again I don't think I'd ever say no to that! Mmmmm!

lemonstartree · 16/10/2006 14:42

with all three of my pregnancies I craved the smell of diesel/petrol/turps/paint etc ! Cravings disappeared the moment the baby arrived!

shhhh · 16/10/2006 15:29

if you think your is weird listen to mine...

When expecting dd and around 30 ish weeks pregnant I noticed that I loved the smell of the grout between the shower tiles when it was wet... So there I would be standing in the shower scrapping away the grout to eat..!!! It was also the same with teracotta plant pots..when they got wet the smell was devine..! I too grew out of it once dd arrived. Now 24 weeks with ds2b and I wonder what my cravings will be this time..!!!

NatalieJane · 16/10/2006 15:33

I am 34 weeks and no real cravings now, but earlier on in the pregnancy I had a thing for dipping strawberries in coleslaw, wouldn't dream of it now, but it was my main diet for a few weeks!

Daisypops · 16/10/2006 15:46

LMAO Shhhh! I had an image of you stood in the shower (not pervy!) sniffing the grout and your DP/DH walking in!!!

Strawberrys and coleslaw-uuurgghhh! Weird aint it? My friend wanted to chew on sponges?!

NatalieJane · 16/10/2006 15:53

I think as wierd as sponges sound, it is quite a common craving in pregnancy, along with things like coal and charcol, there is a name for it, but I can't remember what it is now.

Daisypops · 16/10/2006 16:27

Its called Pica.

divastrop · 16/10/2006 16:53

yes i had the sponges thing in all my pgs, started around 20 weeks, with the first i just wanted to chew them then in the last 3 i actually ate them.im 18+5 now with no.5 and am getting that urge again...they just look so tasty.it has to be those massage sponges though, normal ones wont do.
i have normal cravings for foods up untill week 20-this time it was cheese and apple together.

Lact8HisLiverWithANiceChianti · 16/10/2006 17:00

Pork scratchings I could eat a whole packet in the 2 minute walk home from the shop

When having dd, I woke DP up in the middle of the night crying and saying I really needed salad. And bless him he went to 24 hour tesco and bought me some

madmarchscare · 16/10/2006 17:02

It was gravy and milk (not together) for me.

madmarchscare · 16/10/2006 17:04

I also loved the smell of tea, but have never liked the taste. Particularly in labour oddly enough.

itstough · 16/10/2006 17:15

sponges with both pregnancies.
the smell of them and just wanting to bite them. not natural ones though just the cheap ones

also had a thing for ice cubes.

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 17:25

(confession) i had a twix a little while ago with fried onions on top. it was yummy, all the chocolate melted into the onions....

today i've really wanted dark rum. i don't even like dark rum usually.

apart from that, it's been the usual: brie, stilton, red wine, cigarettes, pate.....

weirdbird · 16/10/2006 21:07

Sooooo so glad I am not the only one with the sponges thing, its the texture and smell and the feel of them on my skin

Also loved the smell of strong cleaners, bleach, chlorine etc last time around

This time I REALLY like hot water, and have to say I look forward to my morning shower and washing up more than I should do!

Oh dear....

it does go away though!

Panyanpickle77 · 16/10/2006 21:30

wrights coal tar soap (helped me through 2 quick labours....just through the lovely smell!), sponge to chew (with water and soap....eeeeeeewwww) and vosene to sniff!!!! I sound like a depraved junky, but at the time I couldn't live without them!

wrinklytum · 16/10/2006 21:34

My mum had cravings for charcoal and ate loads of charcoal tablets.Bizarre!!

For me it was broccoli with ds and winegums with dd.Strange but true!!!

notasheep · 16/10/2006 21:47

Couldnt get enough Toothpaste-not the only one am i? if so them i am weird!

Emskilou · 16/10/2006 21:49

I used to want to munch ice cubes that had been in fizzy vimto with dd but with ds I HAD to smell rubber and loved the smell of bleach and new carpets, odd aren't I

hauntymandy · 16/10/2006 21:49

anything with gravy was one of mine too. plus betroot and mayo sandwiches!

lucy5 · 16/10/2006 21:50

Early in this pregnancy I had a thing for olives, especially stuffed with anchovies.

with dd, I ate milk chocolate digestives topped with extra mature cheddar cheese.

lucy5 · 16/10/2006 21:51

My mum chewed leather with me.

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 16/10/2006 21:52

Oh sponges, I was mad for sponges, I chewed them all the time and yes it had to be the fake one
