gender disappointment?

I am 20w with DC3 I already have two boys. Which are the best! But me and my partner mostly me have decided this will be our last baby for our family. My part ers really hoping for girl as I am to. and I think I will be quite upset if its not. it sounds terrible and I no some people on here get quite touchy with the subject as ive seen. I am very greatful to have two healthy boys already and be pregnant as far as I am with a healthy baby. but I really would love a baby girl! Smile

Awww congratulations. I had a low lying placenta picked up at 20 week scan graded 3-4. The consultant was pretty certain it wouldn't shift and wanted to scan and see me again at 28 weeks. I was told to be report any bleeding and be prepared for a potentially early delivery. By the time the 28 week scan came round it had shifted out the way completely - according to the sonographer most do and no further problems. Try not too worry and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy xx

Why do people want one or the other? You don't know what sort of person they'll grow up to be, what your relationship will be like, so on and so forth.
Even though we struggled to have children, somewhere in the back of my mind there's a little tiny iddly bit of preference, but then I think - I wouldn't mind the other.
We have these preconceived ideas about what's perfect, what's great, etc., but it's all just smoke and mirrors. Same about having a particular gender baby, it almost never turns out the way you'd imagined it Smile

some people have reasons why they would like one or other, doesnt mean they wont accept the fact its different when finding out. aslong as mum and baby are healthy of course I think everyone does have a preference and its natural. Smile

I wanted a boy first and I got one, it wasn't so much a preference for me, but just because I had experience of little boys, I understood them better and when already feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of motherhood I was glad to start with something I understood. When I found out I was having a girl second I wasn't disappointed but I was daunted, I am not at all a girly girl (I own one pair of shoes and no make-up) and was worried I wasn't up to the job.

There can be little planning in how to feel about a newborn, there's nothing like it in the world, and the particulars fade totally when there's a bundle of joy in your arms. I see no reason at all why it's wrong to prefer one imaginary future baby over another, so long as the real actual baby is appreciated for the amazing little person it is.

Dy14 congratulations on your little boy, glad you aren't too disappointed, good luck with your placenta, fingers crossed it'll move for you. I had complete previa and a perfectly peaceful pregnancy.

dy14 I'm the first to admit that I'm among those who think gender preference is awful, especially when the person who expresses their disappointment comes across in such a way that you'd think that's the worst thing in the world that could have happened to them (yours isn't the first post with similar content, I'm referencing a chosen few because yours wasn't as dramatic) considering how difficult it actually is to have a healthy baby, or a baby.
By the same token- people do have a little imaginary baby scenario when they think of their future children (those already in the oven or just daydreams), call it preference or a wish, but when it comes down to it, most just want a healthy baby, healthy pregnancy.
Thus I think the least sympathetic comments normally come when the person is "devastated" they're having a [insert gender].

Personally, I feel really sad about the whole thing, because in some parts in the world girl babies are being aborted for they are a "worthless liability", likewise in other countries boys are being stigmatised by the very mothers that expect them. Yet boys are the most vulnerable- from their conception right up to their first year of life, at least, and that's just to survive (out of respect for your current pregnancy, I won't go into detail but I'm sure that you're familiar with all the statistics).

You're very blessed to have been given an opportunity to bring healthy children into this world, I'm sure you'll have about 7 granddaughters to spoil later on (people say grandchildren are a lot more fun that your own Wink). Enjoy, stay healthy and happy.

Congratulations to you OP, wonderful news!! Flowers

I'm pregnant with #3, and have two DSs already. I feel apprehensive about there being a possibility I may be carrying a girl. I am used to raising boys, I know how to do it. I feel an expert now! I don't know how to raise a girl!! I feel anxious about that. I feel guilty about feeling that way. But I would be delighted either way, which I feel is a blessing.

Just another perspective for others on this thread.

Congratulations OP. Just wanted to say I have 3 boys and it's great. I also had placenta praevia with ds3, it never moved but I didn't bleed so made it to 38wks when I had an elective CS and all was fine. fingers crossed all will be straight forward for you too.

I'm now pregnant with dc4 and impatient to find out if it's a boy or girl!

I have a 6 year old DS who I adore.

Yes when I was PG with him - in complete honesty I was hoping a little for a boy as I have a DH who adores football and is a season ticket holder that would love to take his son one day. No I am not saying he couldn't have taken a girl before I get jumped on!!!

I'm now 20weeks pregnant with dc2 and we find out what we're having next week. I've had so many pissing people ask me if we were 'trying' for a girl - etc. Confused

I'm a little scared if it's a girl but I will honestly be happy either way. I don't think I have a preference but that's not me saying that to be one of them - I just don't know how I'm going to feel either way. Well I do - happy but I don't know if I'm leaning one way or another.

Smile

Thanks dy14.

My section was fine. I'd had two normal deliveries before so was quite nervous but can honestly say it was all ok. The actual operation was a bit longer than usual because I did have some bleeding but that was the worst part. The recovery was much better than I'd expected. I did lots of research for csection tips on here and that was all useful as I felt quite prepared.

Try not to worry about the placenta praevia (easier said than done I know!) - fingers crossed it will move but if not then it can still all go smoothly with a planned csection.
