If you have to stay in hospital a while, is husband allowed to stay?

I'm worried about being left on my own after the birth. I understand that husbands are not allowed/supposed to stay overnight (unless we book a private room which may not be available) but during the day time are husbands allowed to be around outside of visiting hours?

As much as I didn't want my dh to go home just after giving birth, I also found other people's other half's irritating so can see why they do it.

However, i didn't feel that the midwives supported me at all in the hospital (i think there were people who needed their help and support more than me) whereas at home i had dh to help me. So I pushed to go home as soon as I could (they took 7 hours to do the paperwork to discharge me) and this time I intend to go straight home from the delivery suite if I can.

Visiting hrs were 8am till 9pm in our hospital but they did relax rules depending on circumstances. Those on wards where deemed as ok to have visitors during visiting hrs, those in rooms where the ones who may need extra support and partners weren't thrown out straight away.
I had a room and dh was there long hrs especially the days my girls were poorly. I did see one women's partner around all through the nights aswel as their lo was in nicu.
