I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ignominious - I'm 30 weeks now so past the worst bit and oddly at this stage I often find cooking helps me feel a bit better - I actually find some types of cooking easier than eating, bit weird. Especially onions, of all things. We have a fantastic nanny though who cooks for DS every day and either leaves supper for him or if he's had a lot to eat that day already he can just have toast or something like that. DH is still doing a lot more than his share because I'm so disabled by the SPD.

HexyQueen · 19/11/2014 21:29

It's amazing how people look & stare at a pregnant woman in a wheelchair! I got lots of well-intentioned-but-fucking-infuriating head pats & "aren't you brave" comments last time & expect it to start again when I've more of a bump. I've used a wheelchair/mobility scooter for years but am constantly amazed by people's rudeness towards the disabled.

Somehow I've fallen off this stats list too, edd 8.6.15, elective cs booked 1.6.15.

How do you cope with your migraines, Lucinda? Do u get aura too? I was meant to be having a nerve block but then got upduffed so presently they are totally uncontrolled.....

Have anyone had problems with their teeth due to all the stomach acid?

Hi to the newbies & ladies from the June AN thread xxx

www.spewingmummy.co.uk/blog/post/dental-advice-for-hyperemesis-gravidarum-

Great post here. I'm having far less trouble with teeth brushing this time due to a non foaming toothpaste. Avoid anything with SLS in it like the plague!!!

Newshoesplease · 19/11/2014 22:35

fraggle I'm so sorry you've felt so ill. I'm certainly relieved you're signed off rather than struggling through! The end is in sight!

I'm still struggling with being so early on (10+5) so ill. I'm so bored being off work but I honestly veer between vomiting, Fainting and (sorry) awful diarrhoea. I also have the revolting spit in mouth-gob into a tissue constantly issue. I have this fear that I'll go to work and literally soil myself. I've lost all my dignity.

Newshoesplease · 19/11/2014 22:40

willow I'm sorry you received crap treatment. Sad

muddylettuce · 20/11/2014 08:37

Urgh willow poor you, glad you're ok though and at least you can look forward to scan.
Kali how funny that onions make you feel better! I have banned cooking with and eating garlic in my house, I almost extended that to onions too! Most herbs and spices have also been banned although I did put some mixed herbs in a steak and ale pie yesterday because I wasn't eating it. I can now cook thankfully but still can't do bins or spend much time in fridge! Luckily it's dp's job to do shopping and bins.
I am 13+6 and feeling much better than I was. Still have the nauseous feeling but not all day usually and still no vomiting. I am still taking cyclazine and still off work though. I get by eating little and often, having a nap after lunch with dd and early nights. Also, if I have to go out then the following day I try and rest at home. Seems to be doing the trick.

fortywinx · 20/11/2014 09:04

Oh newshoesplease that sounds awful, and I know how you feel. I had the vomit/light-headed/diarrhoea combo at the end of week 6 (only for a few days in my case thankfully). Briefly went into work but I honestly thought that I was going to embarrass myself and so went home. Just felt so undignified, running to the bathroom every 10 minutes, getting weepy because I couldn't cope etc. Horrible.

I have woken up this morning feeling extremely tired, and although I haven't been sick yet, I have felt very nauseous and retchy a few times. The level of fatigue is insane though. I literally don't know how I'm going to function this morning!

Newshoesplease · 20/11/2014 10:48

Oh forty I so get the fatigue! I've only left my bed to be sick and I'm knackered. I'm anaemic yet again which doesn't help. For some irritating reason, my doctor's solution to anaemia is to do another blood test to re check. They can stuff it I already faint having blood taken. They've also lost one of my hospital urine samples. I simply cba to do another if they'll just lose it.

Sorry about losing people from the list.
HexyQueen About my migraines - sorry you get them too. I found they were much worse in the first tri, and things were complicated by the fact that the GP dismissed what were obviously dehydration headaches as a 'change in your migraine due to hormones. Sadly they came back and worse than before pregnancy after I stopped feeding daughter, so I've never been able to return to working outside the home as employers don't look symapthetically on them, but don't panic, everyone who has 'em,I think that was just my bad luck. I've known lots of people who stopped getting them after pregnancy. I work from home as a writer. Yes, I do get that nice aura and violent puking. That attitude of people sounds infuriating.
FortyWinx That hair thing sounds awful, I meant to say; I never know how so many people manage to avoid messing up their hair, though I suppose the up n a bun or tied back thing is the only way...I'm concerned you are still having to go into work, and having to rush to the loo every ten minutes sounds horrendous.
Willlow Poor you, it's awful that none of them were able to take things in. Sorry you were in A and E. Glad OH was with you. Waves to Ignominous MuddyLettuce Kalidasa and others.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.
NewsShoes Never worry about tmi here. There does seem to be an evil virus gong round.
Fraggle At least you managed to escape from the bus - uou are obviously more of a controlled puker generally than I was.
Ovaltine That's a great link - I nominated that one for a blog award once; the Hyperemesis world is a small one...

Oh Lucinda you have made me giggle this morning lol Sorry to have got your hopes up there Ovaltine I'm afraid I won't be swapping with anyone unless it brings my date forward hahaha

muddylettuce · 20/11/2014 12:01

newshoes embarrassingly in my last pregnancy I actually did poo myself at work. Well, on the drive in. Awful. Thankfully I was caught puking in the loo about half an hour later and was sent home. Good job really as I am not generally in the habit of carrying spare knickers!

ovaltine · 20/11/2014 14:15

I was a bit concerned I was having 2 babies then :D heeheehee!!!

Newshoesplease · 20/11/2014 14:32

Oh muddy you poor thing Sad pregnancy is no fun when you have hg. I'm going to adopt the spare knickers technique!

Meerka · 20/11/2014 14:42

ovaltine what a great link! I have heard that some middle eastern people chew a sort of special twig without toothpaste, I wonder if that will help. Otherwise if you can't tolerate anything in your mouth, it's mouthwash only ... even that was a bit risky at time for me. I lost 3 teeth the 1st preg, great Hmm

oww muddy that must have been embarassing. Work and HG are just not compatible ...

kalidasa · 20/11/2014 16:00

What an interesting link about the toothpaste. I'm wondering now whether the Indian clove toothpaste that has been my saviour this time is better because it doesn't have the 'foaming agent' thing she mentions. It definitely doesn't really foam anyway. She doesn't mention the minty taste of most paste though which I know is a trigger in itself for a lot of women. I like that she is realistic about the necessity of constant snacks/fizzy drinks.

I am feeling rough today, I haven't felt this bad sickness-wise for weeks. I've got a heavy cold and I hope that it's that, especially the coughing, which is making the sickness worse, and not the 30 week regression I've been dreading (turned 30 weeks yesterday). Yesterday - a new low point - I coughed and started to retch and then vomit at which point I didn't just leak a bit (normal and I don't think that surprising when retching/vomiting at this point in pregnancy) I actually totally lost control of my bladder! Had to change my pyjamas completely. How undignified.

I am totally in bed and as a result not vomiting very often but having been eating well I am really struggling again, can only really manage bread, olives and lucozade today. Really really hope this is just a blip and not how it's going to be for the next 10 weeks!

Courage to everyone battling away in the early stages. DS is turning two next week: can't believe it is already two years since the end of that awful pregnancy! He is so so lovely at the moment, I feel tearful just thinking about him (that's the third trimester for you). It really was worth it.

TheJiminyConjecture · 20/11/2014 16:04

Today I picked DD up from school Grin This has been the first time I was able to leave the house (other than to go to hospital) in about 6 weeks! It's such a small thing but it feels massive.

Sending gentle pats to those who need them Flowers

Meerka · 20/11/2014 16:33

kali congrats on the 30 weeks. I found that that it helped from that point mentally onwards because the chance of the baby being okay is so high, if they come early.

jiminy congrats. isn't it lovely to be able to go out and see fresh air after weeks of being penned up!

LucindaE · 20/11/2014 17:40

Muddylettuce That sounds so horrible -a couple of times I had liquids coming out of all orifices - luckily I was at home. I have mentioned before my Whipping Off Knickers to stop myself wetting them routine.
Fraggle Glad I gave you a laugh with my IT inadequacies - all was not wasted Grin.
TheJiminyConjectue That's a huge step.
Kalidasa I hope it's a bug rather than a relapse.
Who was it who was disappointed after having a couple of good days? The odd good day is often the start of the turnaround. They so often get more frequent after that...

kalidasa · 20/11/2014 18:26

Thanks meerka. Yes, I caught a bit on the news the other day about babies born very early (23-26 weeks or so) and I felt so relieved that the baby is already past that point, and as you say has a good chance of being OK from now on. One of my best friends works in the ICU at Great Ormond St and I remember her saying 30 weeks is a big milestone. Funnily enough, in the ancient/medieval/early modern world they believed that babies born in the 7th month were often OK, whereas those born a bit less early in the 8th month usually died (obviously the 9th month is what you are aiming for!). I've always wondered why this is repeated as fact for so long and whether there is any grain of truth in it at all.

Sipping tea now and hoping for a better evening/night as I have to go into work for a few hours tomorrow afternoon (to do a PhD upgrade exam) - really have to go if I possibly can as it can't happen without me.

HexyQueen · 20/11/2014 21:31

I hadn't even thought of olives for months, Kalidasa, that might just work.

Thanks for the link ovaltine, very helpful.

As for peeing in pants stories, I'm already wobbly on my legs b4 pregnancy & HG, but othe day tried to hop out of bed to be sick & ended up peeing in the bin I usually chuck up in by side of the bed (easy wash one) whilst vomiting in the one by the door (small swing bin) at the same time. Having missed the floor completely I couldn't work out if I was a hero or failure for this feat ( finally decided hero). The joys of HG, eh?

Have any of you ladies had probs with the 12 week nuchal fold/combined blood tests results as I've been reading HG can raise your markers meaning you come out a higher risk, which obscures the reading you would have got had you not had HG. As I'm older having an accurate result is obviously needed.

FreeWee · 20/11/2014 21:41

In my first pregnancy the test results came out fine despite HG but isn't it interesting what it can affect that no one tells you about? Like the fact I ended up with an emergency c-section was probably linked to my body being poorly nourished the whole of my pregnancy (HG till birth) and not having the energy to push. Head midwife told me that at my listening appointment I arranged.

Fraggle31 · 20/11/2014 21:57

You are not alone with your peeing in pants stories.......as I get more pregnant and the vomiting restarts my bladder is more squished and the control is rubbish.........bringing up my breakfast this morning was unpleasant on both counts hahahaha

Emsymarie · 21/11/2014 10:45

Hi ladies, has anyone tested their own pee for protein levels at home? Had a bit of a fright at hospital yesterday as I had 2+ protein, I had preeclampsia last pregnancy so think I might rest a bit easier if I keep an eye on my pee and blood pressure at home too. So just wondered if anyone knows if I can buy the test strips? They think I'm ok at the mo, just waiting for a call to confirm xx
