I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

hello to all the new folk

I have mental issues and while i am not currently on medication i prefer to check with the doc as some meds can affect mood and the last thing i need is it all to start again on top of this.

kali and freewee totally agree, morning sickness is not the best phrase to use! sorry!

kali i have no idea how you are enduring it .. .

tori, one of the best early meds is Diclectin, only available in canada, the equivilent of cyclizine+B6 in a single tablet. Wish medical people were more up on pregnancy meds :/ (and i didn't find it gave me diarrhoea myself)

willow ouch, mental health -and- HG is really hard work ...

Hellohellohowareyou · 17/11/2014 18:54

So what do I do if Omdansatron doesn't work? Seriously losing the will to live at the moment

kalidasa · 17/11/2014 19:10

Not with cyclizine Tori but definitely with metoclopramide - are you on that as well?

kalidasa · 17/11/2014 19:14

Hello - if you lose control despite ondansetron they will take you into hospital and try to stabilise you by increasing the dose, putting it through the drip, combining it with other meds etc. If all else fails they'll usually add steroids as well, that's what happened to me. How much ondansetron are you on? Most people are not on max dose. You can go up to 8 mg 3x a day.

ovaltine · 17/11/2014 19:59

Just thought I'd post this link, spesh for any of you needing some back up with Dr's - I got my Dr to look at this when we discussed B6 with an anti histamine

www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/medication/

Kali - argh as if you are on baby numbe 2! So sorry you are suffering again so bad. You are bloody brave for doing this again

I'm currently obsessed with salsa chicken legends from McD, only thing I want to eat and helps with the nausea! Weird!!!

FreeWee · 17/11/2014 20:06

Interesting you mention diahorrea. It's been veering between constipation and diahorrea! I'd put it down to not feeling like fruit then suddenly bearing it and having as much as possible.

kalidasa · 17/11/2014 20:57

ovaltine when I FINALLY got out of hospital the only thing I could reliably eat for a couple of weeks was a KFC Zinger Burger. Not any of the others. Fortunately there is a KFC five minutes away! The spicy junky food thing is really really weird. Another of my earliest 'safe' foods was chicken liver pate, which is one of those things you are not meant to eat in pregnancy but in the circs they said not to bother about that and that anything that stayed down was fine! It is basically just fat so has hundreds of calories which was good.

WillowHouse · 17/11/2014 21:08

i get diahorah on cyclzine - not sure if its a common side effect or not. Im actually quite glad as im on a high iron dose (when i can keep it down) and that usually constipates me.

WillowHouse · 17/11/2014 21:10

oo and interesting about junk food. I send my poor non driving hubby out on his bike to cycle the 6 mile round trip to get macdonalds strawberry milkshakes Smile only strawberry, any other flavour or any other make i vomit. Can i maintain that as its strawberry it counts as eating healthily?

FreeWee · 17/11/2014 21:16

Definitely one of your 5 a day Willow Wink

ovaltine · 17/11/2014 21:24

I was a KFC zinger fan last pregnancy! Can't eat it in this pregnancy for some reason. I had piri piri chicken tonight. Gone off chocolate too?!!? Used to eat loads!!

Newshoesplease · 17/11/2014 21:30

I've definitely had the junk cravings. Think our bodies are just desperate for calories! I'm going to eat EVERYTHING come June!

Newshoesplease · 17/11/2014 21:31

willow I was obsessed with mcds strawberry smoothie until I vommed one up haha

kalidasa · 17/11/2014 21:33

I don't think I'll ever be able to eat a Zinger burger again ovaltine! But it did the job at the time and got me out of hospital. I suspect the sheer number of calories are something to do with it. And maybe also that "food" like that is so incredibly processed that your body hardly has to do anything in order to break it down!?

ovaltine · 17/11/2014 22:06

Might help with our constipation too ;)

Newshoesplease · 17/11/2014 22:35

I seem to remember someone saying they had a horrible feeling in their throat with hg. Does anything ease it? I feel like I've got a lump stuck ibnmy throat. Seems it's yet another horrible part of hg.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 18/11/2014 03:29

I'm so glad that I'm home from hospital (even though I'm up in the night with heavy bleeding AGAIN) because I was losing my patience hearing how a lady with HG was being treated. My HG was treated better than hers and she was earlier on in pregnancy so was in a worse way. When this is all over, I'm tempted to write to the hospital with suggestions for a HG policy because they are pretty rubbish at treating it.

Meerka · 18/11/2014 09:59

oh crikey noRoom. there's nothing they can do to help? :(

At the very, very, very least I hope you can keep enough water and food down to replace the blood you're loosing ... thinking of you

kalidasa · 18/11/2014 10:11

Poor you NoRoom it sounds so stressful. Sorry I've forgotten - how far along are you? Are they able to give you any sense of what is likely to happen.

Were you able to direct that lady with HG in hospital with you to our support thread?! A few weeks ago a health visitor came to see me with a student - bit weird as they usually only come after the baby is born, but she rang up to say she'd heard I was having this really dreadful pregnancy, I think to be honest she was looking for 'interesting cases' for her student to meet!! But anyway they were both quite interested as had no idea how bad HG can be at the really extreme end and I told them about this thread and how fantastic it is because even most professionals don't really understand, let alone most family/friends.

ignominious · 18/11/2014 10:17

Hello, I'm 6+2 and only normal amounts of nausea so far but expecting it to get worse this week based on previous pgs (dd then a mmc). Got Metoclopramide upstairs ready to go.

Hi tori!

kalidasa · 18/11/2014 10:23

Welcome ignominious. How old is your dd? My son is 23 months and I am expecting DS2 in January.

I saw a super-specialist (Prof Nelson-Piercy at St Thomas') this time for advice and she said that the best chance of pre-emptive meds really working is to avoid throwing up at ALL, so you never lose control. So don't be afraid to start taking the meds before you are actually throwing up. Good luck!

Hello, my lovelies, up again. welcome to new people. Meerka and Kalidasa have been doing a brilliant job, they're very knowledgeable about medicine. Frstywinx exertion does make it worse, is there any chance of the dr signing you off? Freewee I wonder if the thread was this one last Fime? I know what you mean about the not thinking straight. I take it you as a veteran have kestostixk, so that you're sure it 's not a sign of dehydration? *ToriB34 Seven pounds is a fair amount to lose Sorry it's getting bad again at 12 weeks. I remember mine really spiralled out of control at 10 weeks, I suppose a hormonal surge? .
NoRoom You poor thing, that sounds so awful. You say that they say the blood has to come out? It must be so nerve wracking. Hugs. I wish I could actually do something.
Hellohellohowareyou So agree with others, they can make Ondansetron more effective with cyclezine and other drugs added, so it's worth making another appointment asking for that. I know it's hard to fight your corner when you feel so awful. To be honest, if you are sick in front of the doctor so much the better. It's what I should have done. Sorry you feel so desperate; things will get better.

Willow Hugs. You are dong very well. It made me laugh about OH having to cycle six miles to get that junk food.
Kalidasa It's awful people staring; how ill mannered. I'm very happy you have found this thread so helpful; of course, you and Meerka are two of the most helpful people on it, with your meds knowledge, but everyone is lovely.
Newshoes Horrors about reapparing smoothies. Hyperemesis is like a grotesque conjuring act with food reapparing.
Ovaltine and everyone how are things?
I remember that awful feeling in the throat someone mentioned, it felt swollen. Disgusting.
xx
