I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Oh basgetti what a cutie pie! Gorgeous Smile

LucindaE thank you, for the most part I'm actually fine and as long as I have my tablets I'm not to nauseous. It just seems to have ramped up a wee bit. But bump is defiantly bigger so reckon baby must be putting on weight/getting bigger so that's good Smile

DurhamRed · 17/01/2015 14:48

Such a gorgeous picture Basgetti. I'm glad to hear you are doing well :-)

Meerka · 17/01/2015 22:10

basgetti how utterly lovely =)

How are you feeling now, all recovered?

basgetti · 18/01/2015 15:56

Thanks all, I'm feeling great thanks Meerka, recovered really quickly. I've got loads of energy and my appetite came back with a vengeance, can't stop eating. Probably making up for months of malnutrition! She is still a really easy baby at the moment, sleeps really well and rarely cries, although I'm aware that could change any time!

Hope everyone is doing okay xx

I'm due 29th August, only just over 8 weeks through Sad the thought of another 8 weeks of this (if it stops at 16 weeks) is horrible.

Have this constant sicky bloaty feeling and nothing eases it. Fed up of the heaving and throwing up but nothing coming up, its wearing me down and making me miserable.

Hellohellohowareyou · 18/01/2015 19:58

My due date to add to the list is june 30th Grin

DurhamRed · 18/01/2015 20:54

Can't believe I have just under 9 weeks left until due date, time has really flown by (the first 20 - 24 weeks however dragged with hg). I still suffer from nausea every day (some days better than others) but I can manage to eat and drink, which is such a different to the first few months! I'm not sure if the current nausea is due to hg or whether its because I've gotten bigger and stomach is more uncomfortable (maybe both?), however I am just grateful that I am now close to due date and the end is in sight!!

Thank you to Meerka, Lucinda* Meerka and everyone who has supported me throughout, I know I wouldn't have coped without this support thread so many many thanks!!

DurhamRed · 18/01/2015 20:56

Was meant to say thank you to Meerka Lucinda Kalidasa and everyone, I really need to proofread before posting! Smile

Meerka · 19/01/2015 08:22

durham this thread can be such a lifesaver! I don't know how I'd have got through without it.

About the nausea .. sometimes unfortunately it rises again a bit in the last trimester. It's never as bad though! But you may want to consider talking to your doc about cyclizine + B6 again because it's a drain you don't need. it does help to think that at least the end is in sight!

dillydolly preg slows down the whole absorbing-food thing apparently. Might the bloating and some of nausea be due to that? it might be worth asking your doctor. My gyne suggested Gaviscon a couple of times until she downright ordered me to take it and it did help with the bloating. She said that it would also have made the nausea a bit worse.

LucindaE · 19/01/2015 10:10

Thank you DurhamRed and Meerka - I'm so happy this thread helps people.
dilly That sounds so horrible - what meds did you say the doctor had you on? It doesn't sound like they're doing their job and you might need more.
The nausea is horrible. It looks like I made a mistake in blaming the Gaviscon for the bloated feelng, then, Meerka if it's meant to help it. Mother Hen hopes you're monitoring the ketones, dilly. It is very hard to bear in the early weeks, when it's at its worst; things will almost certainly improve but it does seem endless, everyone on here knows.

Meerka · 19/01/2015 10:17

Oops lucinda I don't know, maybe the Gaviscon isn't helpful then! maybe mention it to the midwife or doc, Im sure they can recommend somethign for the bloating

Hping kali and everyone is surviving the monday morning

dillydollydarling · 19/01/2015 11:06

I've tried cyclizine which didn't seem to work and now trying metoclopramide which is helping a little. Still struggling to eat and drink though. I did buy some urine test strips, tested once and was dehydrated so too scared to test myself since. Also lost about 4kg in the past couple of weeks.

I did try gaviscon for the bloating but it made me heave when I wa feeling sick and took it. Kind of put me off now! Told my OH last night that I feel like I'm failing at being pregnant. He told me as long as baby is healthy when it arrives, I haven't failed at all!

Meerka · 19/01/2015 13:15

dilly if you've lost 4 kilos in 2 weeks it's a good idea to go back to your doctor.

you aren't failing at preg. there's a myth that preg is easy and glowing and you should be radiant. but the reality is that its -often- not like that. it's just a process to be gotten through until you get to the end. on the quiet, a lot of women see it as the endurance test until you get the prize at the end.

LucindaE · 19/01/2015 16:10

dilly I so agree with Meerka, the doctor is most likely to take that weight loss seriously if you go back. It's a lot. Please do test for dehydration, I know the thought of being admitted for fluids is dismal, but you may well be feeling so sick because you are dehydrated, in part -fluids will ease that at least temporarily, and you shouldn't be struggling along without effective treatment. There's no 'should's' about pregnancy women who glow are just lucky and most people with only ordinary ms look awful and miserable in the first tri!

dillydollydarling · 20/01/2015 09:19

Back to the doctors it is for me. Tried to get an appointment with the really good doctor I saw last time but couldn't. OH wanted to take me to hospital last night cos he's worried I'm really dehydrated again. Keeps telling me to just drink more. I'm doing my best but it's not easy!

dillydollydarling · 20/01/2015 09:53

Why are they all so useless?! Told the doctor I'd lost 4kg in the past couple of weeks, she tested my urine, found ketones, told me my body is now starting to break down fat, printed out some info, told me to try and get fresh air and use metoclopramide only if necessary and sent me on my way!

OH now doesn't know whether I should go straight back to the hospital or what. I just feel like giving up :(

comeagainforbigfudge · 20/01/2015 10:20

Aw dilly. Sounds horrible. Trust your instincts. If you think a hospital visit is needed, then go.

As for failing at being pregnant.... HOGWASH!!! Whoever wrote the script on pregnancy must have been a man with the pish about "a glow". Must have meant the reflection from all the spots that are erupting from the shiny oily forehead of mine. moaning much there sorry

I'm only just starting to feel on an even keel at 20 weeks and I think I got off lightly compared to some of the stories I've read.

baby is leaching everything out of you so will be growing well, it's just you that's being made to feel miserable.

kalidasa · 20/01/2015 11:38

Hi all. 38+6 today and no baby yet! Constant tedious period pains for the last ten days which have got worse a couple of times - I really thought things were kicking off on Friday night - but no actual action yet. I did have a show last week. I've now had two sweeps (not very nice) as my consultant is keen to put me out of my misery! Got to happen eventually but getting a bit impatient now. Have been housebound for so so long now and can't wait to be able to walk even a tiny bit so that I could get out of the house.

Sickness has actually been mostly better than usual for the last week, and I've also been much hungrier and able/wanting to eat things I haven't eaten all the way through (lots of bowls of cereal), so I'm sure things are revving up - just really slowly.

Thinking of everyone on this thread, especially those of you trapped in the ghastly first half. It DOES get better. Even in my total shocker of a pregnancy - I've been in a wheelchair for three months now and can't move at all, even sit up in bed, without severe pelvic pain - I found the second half when the sickness was less overwhelming much more bearable than the first, HG is just the absolute worst.

LucindaE · 20/01/2015 17:56

dilly I so agree with comeagain - go to hospital if you feel really bad. I'm not medically trained, of course, but they do admit at 3+ ketones as it's not good for you or the baby to stay in that state for too long. The ketones could be due to dehydration, after all; the doctor may not realize how little liquiid you can retain?
Kalidasa Hugs. You've been very brave, it must be awful being stuck in that wheelchair. The only comfort at the moment is it's purely horrible outside and not at all safe for heavily pregnant woman with this ice - but you must be so desperate to get out, like a prisoner.
comeagain [grins]. I remember spots in the first tri. Some woman on here do go on to glow later, maybe with rage at the fatuous advice they've had...
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.
xx

Rang the ward that I was admitted onto when I ended up in hospital and they were really helpful. Ketones aren't quite above 3 yet so will keep an eye on it and if it does get bad, will ring them again. OH is worried about my lack of eating. I normally have a huge appetite and today I've only managed a tiny amount of couscous and less than a third of a pork chop. It's not like I have a lot of spare weight to lose either!

Meerka · 20/01/2015 19:15

Glad to hear that you can get through to the hospital. As long as you keep an eye on your ketones, that's good.

are there any tiny moments that you feel that you could keep something down? If there are, grab them. Do you find that frozen stuff helps? Im wondering if you could even freeze soup into a lollipop and lick it ... probably a silly idea!

kali, wishing the little one gets the urge to vacate the premises as soon as possible ...

So agree about the glowing with rage at some of the silly stuff said! :)

dillydollydarling · 20/01/2015 19:31

I haven't really had any moments where I feel I can successfully eat. Ketones now measuring above 4 so hospital want me to go to a+e Sad

Frozen soup would be good if it worked! I did manage a tiny amount of ice cream earlier but that was about all I could manage.

Hope everyone else starts feeling better soon Smile and thanks everyone for the support

Meerka · 20/01/2015 21:07

dilly I hope they can get you admitted and rehydrated, that will really help you and it helps how you feel too. Take care
