I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Blueberry cross posted means you both posted at the same time thus one post might not make sense/not include reference to the other post because the posters didn't see each others posts e.g one poster says "it's X sleeps to Christmas" posted at 9.12 & the next post says "so how many sleeps is it till Christmas?" also posted at 9.12. That's cross posts. Hope that helps! Someone will probably be typing a better explanation than me but we'll post at the same time!

Tall it was unhelpful thalidomide comments which prevented me from getting help till 16 weeks in my first pregnancy and that wasn't what was best for me or baby. I'm sorry she's not being more supportive. This thread will be full of people who have had healthy babies despite taking medication during their pregnancy. My DD's immune system far exceeds that of her friends, she was 9lb+ at birth & was talking in sentences at 18 months so she doesn't seem to have come out too badly! (hopefully that will have come across as reassuring not boasting Flowers)

BlueberryWafer · 11/12/2014 09:27

Ah thanks WeeFreeKings - it's said a lot on here and I've never known what it means!

LucindaE · 11/12/2014 10:04

TallGiraffes It's upsetting for people when relatives make badly informed comments like this - I do wish they might think that the dr wouldn't take a risk and they never prescribe medicines that haven't been proven safe.
Glad you're out and feeling a bit better.
Blueberry Waves. Hope ear is better soon.
freneticfox Poor you; it is so disappointing when it comes back after a reprieve. Glad you aren't working now anyway.
Waves to all. It's very hard having this at this time of year when all the talk is of food and parties.

I am in awe of you ladies that have done this more than once. I've been trying to regain control of the epic laundry mountain that has generated over the last week (that's been my only ambition for the day) and it has floored me. DS has watched more TV than in the rest of his life combined (he does have a really foul cough/cold too though so he doesn't want to do much else anyway). I've accepted defeat on some things - we're not sending Christmas cards this year no matter how much anyone protests, but some things have to carry on don't they?

LucindaE · 11/12/2014 17:42

TallGiraffes Certainly don't send cards, Mother Hen says insensitively - do the minimum, conserve the little energy you have for the things that absolutely have to be done (and sometimes one is too ill to do any of those, either). This is a time for survival. I've known women who forced themselves to do things like go camping (not at this time of year, though Grin with this, and it didn't do hem any good at all.

TallGiraffes stop now. Lie or sit down. Take your meds and tell your mum to get her facts right and shut it. Get your DH/DP to take over absolutely everything. I'm not joking here, he'll have to just cope. Thankfully I only had one relative make stupid med comments like that and they were set straight really quickly.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 11/12/2014 21:53

Oh dear. I think nerves about my scan tomorrow are making my sickness worse. I fear I may have to be surgically detached from my vomit bowl by the morning.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 11/12/2014 21:56

Oh and never mind the Christmas cards. Write a lovely email if it bothers you and BCC in all friends/family.

ToAvoidConversation · 12/12/2014 06:32

NoRoom I was like that before my scans too. Very understandable. By 20 weeks I was managing to get all the pukes out of the way before work but that day I was sick a few times in the morning. I'm not a quiet puker either and lots of people heard but really by that point....couldn't care less! Good luck.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 12/12/2014 07:22

The thing is, the size of the area of haemorrhage, the proximity to the placenta and the growth of the baby over the past 4 weeks will be assessed as well as the normal stuff. Apparently they are hoping that the haemorrhage will have resolved by now because it gives a better prognosis. I did not sleep well. We were up in the night with DS when his temp was 39.7 as well as weird dreams about scans.

basgetti · 12/12/2014 09:29

Good luck with your scan NoRoom, hope all goes well. Sorry your DS is poorly too, last thing you need.

Baby's head remains down but not engaged, MW has said they won't even do a sweep until I get to 41 weeks as second baby, which would take me beyond xmas. I'm now unsure a section recovery would have been any worse than I'm feeling right now, every time I move I retch, just about managing not to vomit with the cyclizine but the nausea is awful. Struggling to walk now too, and DP has had to take on extra hours at work this week. My Mum offered to come over and help out but she isn't well at the moment so don't want to put her out. Sorry for the moan, just had enough now. Going to spend the day on the sofa!

Hope everyone else is coping okay xx

comeagainforbigfudge · 12/12/2014 09:41

I survived my first day back at work woo hoo!!!!

The cyclizine did it's job and only had a few waves of nausea as the tablets were being to wear off. I was told that I looked very pale and knackered (which to be fair I was) by a kindly friend. But that was to be expected when I had to work 12.5hrs with NO afternoon nap Xmas Smile

1st night shift tonight. Hoping it goes well. Just trying to figure out when to take my tablets.

Hope everyone is feeling a wee bitty better or at least getting the help you need

LucindaE · 12/12/2014 10:33

ToAvoid Never mind about noisy puking embarrassment - if you're suffering, it's good that they hear. I've always been a very noisy puker too - I wonder at those who manage to do it discreetly. Sorry you are feeling foujl again,I hope it's a temporary blip.
NoRoom Hugs., poor you, Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Thisiis really so horribly stressful, and a sick LO too.
basgtetti Never apologise for moaning on here; that's what this thread is for. Baby is plannning a grand entrance, it seems. It must be dreadful suffering throughout.
Comeagainfor Well done, that sounds great - I'm so glad meds are doing their stuff. Do try and not overdo it.
Leaves, clucking...

My lovely Dad is on his way over, he's going to pick me up some shopping, do the afternoon school run and sort DS out for me. So I can stay lying down! Such a relief.

Well done on getting back to work comeagain, hope you can organise your meds in a way that suits your night shift. Good luck x

Dottydadoo · 12/12/2014 13:26

Basgetti - I'm in awe of you being sick all the way through your pregnancy. I hope that baby doesn't keep you waiting too long.

Ive been so sick over the last couple of days - I'm trying to keep sipping water but have only been able to manage an ice lolly today. My lovely mum is looking after and collecting children. We still need to get those stick in to measure your ketones - had some trouble getting them at the local Boots.

Am trying to keep my spirits up but am despairing. I'm meant to be going back to work on Monday but I've agreed with my manager I'll play it by ear. If this continues, it'll be trip to hospital this weekend I fear. It's all over the news locally that they are very busy at the moment and asking people to stay away if possible.

Some Christmas this is going to be! Still haven't finished Christmas shopping - am going to have to trust DH with that this weekend.

TallGiraffes · 12/12/2014 13:56

Thanks all - I've taken on board your telling off. Haven't really moved from the sofa all day.

Basgetti - hope baby makes an appearance soon. If it is any comfort I had an ELCS with DS (and I have to have one again this time round) and it was great. I was recovered much quicker than most of my natural birth friends, even took him swimming at 3 weeks old I must have been nuts

Comeagain - good luck with your night shift, very impressed.

Noroom - good luck with your scan

NoRoomForALittleOne · 12/12/2014 17:05

Phew! Scan went well. No more haemorrhaging to be seen so hopefully that's my bleeding done and dusted. Still have a high risk of pre-term labour but everything looked perfect today. Consultant wants to see me next week because of the HG. No idea why. It's not like they are going to do anything other than keep me on the ondansetron and re-admit me if I can't manage on oral meds again. Anyway, I shall go and see if they say anything interesting. At some stage we have to have the chat about birth options but I don't suppose that HG will figure in this.

LucindaE · 12/12/2014 17:12

NoRoom That's lovely news, I'm so pleaed; it's made my day.
TallGiraffes Poor basgetti was due for one, as baby was in such an odd position, but then she did a somersault, and poor basgetti now must wait for it to happen naturally. At least a week ago a doctor said 'any time now'; but this baby's likes a celebrity build up, flashing lights, music, etc, like a champion boxer making an entrance...

Ah sorry Basgetti, ignore my post Blush

basgetti · 12/12/2014 18:29

Haha Lucinda! No probs Tall, I can't really follow whats going on myself, there's been lots of uncertainty!

Vomited quite badly this afternoon, first time in a little while, feels horrible but I knew it was coming with how retchy I've been. Have some ketones but hopefully sipping my fat coke will bring them down again.

NoRoom that's wonderful news about the scan, so pleased for you. xx

Hey all, you all aound like you are suffering mightily. I am now 6+4, am starting to feel nauseated but no vomiting yet. However, if last time is anything to go by, I reckon the next week will be rough.

I have the dr on Monday to get on the system and booked in for scans etc, and the rest I will play by ear. If I could avoid hospitalisation this time, it would be great.

Also amazing news- my brother and his wife are also having a baby! We thought they were unable, so it is a great surprise! She is 10 weeks, so the cousins will be very close in age.

She is not sick.

GetTheRedTinselOut · 12/12/2014 21:15

Is spotting common at 20 weeks? It's brown not red, but I've just been to the loo and it looks like it's been going on all day. I have had lots of discharge lately so I wasn't paying it any attention, now I've seen its blood I'm shitting it a bit :(

Newshoesplease · 12/12/2014 21:23

noroom good news about your scan! I have another scan next week as had crippling stomach pains today and some more spotting. All I can do is pray baby is going to make it til june, and be okay. Im 14 weeks today. So far to go

ovaltine · 13/12/2014 00:27

Tinsel, completely normal. Cervix changes etc can cause it (I had with my first after a stressful weekend!) if its brown and not much then don't worry. I've had so much discharge this time!! Constant panty liner wearing. Horrible.

I've been ill for few past month, I NEVER get ill!! We away for 5 days next week and thought I was coming down with yet another throat infection but feels better tonight. I've not noticed the nausea whilst ill (thank god) but since feeling better if I do a lot it comes back with avengance (like tonight after a busy housework day trying to sort my life out before we leave Monday).

Really feel for all of you being sick!! Xxx
