Tell me the most emotionally charged movie you've ever seen (to stimulate Oytocin!)??

41w3d. 2 sweeps done. Mucous plug gone. Had the 'clear out'. Getting occasional BH. Induction booked for Sunday.

Apparently, watching an 'emotionally charged' movie can stimulate labour. So something really sad or funny perhaps. Im planning to watch it whilst sitting on a gym ball twiddling my nipples!!!

So I'm interested to know, what's the most emotionally charged movie you've watched? Anything that really made you cry, or laugh etc. Not sure I want to watch a scary film necessarily but willing to try that later with DP.

Obviously I'm scraping the barrel here but I really have tried everything else!

Have I got this right: Queen Latifa in a Steel Magnolias remake?!

That sounds awful...
I have to watch it.

magpiegin · 05/11/2014 09:21

The Time Travellers Wife
My Sisters Keeper
The Green Mile
Marley and Me
Beaches
Toy Story 3
Armageddon

magpiegin · 05/11/2014 09:22

I'm not allowed to watch all the above films when home alone as they upset me too much.

TheWordFactory · 05/11/2014 09:22

Truly, Madly, Deeply.

kitkat321 · 05/11/2014 09:23

I agree with The Green Mile - I've never watched Marley & Me - I'm a huge dog lover and I think it would kill me!!!!

Captainweasel · 05/11/2014 09:25

Marley & me. Saddest movie ever.

Or the boy in the striped pyjamas.

Dead Man Walking - an amazing capital punishment film with Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon - will make you weep and be furious probably.

The Green Mile - quite upsetting.

RabbitsarenotHares · 05/11/2014 09:29

Eight Below - about a husky team who are abandoned in Antarctica. Lovely film, but I weep every time I see it.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 05/11/2014 09:29

If you had a yellow lab as a child (as did I) then Marley & Me should get that baby moving. And if it doesn't, nothing will!

TheWordFactory · 05/11/2014 09:30

Though of some more.

The Blind Side - sad, uplifting, wonderful. Sandra Bullock is excelllent.

Atonement.
The Champ.
Les Miserables.

Lucked · 05/11/2014 09:32

The first 30 mins of UP had me bawling my eyes out on a plane.
Shadowlands and Terms of Endearment for heart wrenching deaths.

whereisthewitch · 05/11/2014 09:32

Beaches, it gets me every single time!
Boy in the striped pajamas had me weeping for about an hour, it is absolutely heart wrenching.
Armageddon gets me too, it's definitely a cheeser though!

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 05/11/2014 09:33

Scrub the kitchen floor on your hands and knees was the advice given by my midwife to get things going Shock

CaptainJaneSafeway · 05/11/2014 09:35

God yes the start of UP, I always cry loads when the DC put it on. I always think "Oh I know what happens, I won't cry this time" - nope. Total blubfest.

I was going to say I've Loved You So Long which is the film that has made me cry the most, but it's so unbearably sad, don't watch that at this point!

Or a few old episodes of One Born Every Minute, that should get things going!

For laughing, obviously depends on what you like but I would have an evening of Father Ted, IT Crowd or Black Books.

Eggybread00 · 05/11/2014 09:36

About Time, latest Richard Curtis film, I went to bed still choking back deep sobs!!

LilAnnieAmphetamine · 05/11/2014 09:43

Queen Latifah in Steel Magnolias looks amazing. She was the most beautiful, warmest character in 'Secret Life of Bees' so much so that I wanted her as my imaginary mother.

magpiegin · 05/11/2014 11:40

Oh god, Emma Thompson in Love Actually. Forgot about that one.

flipwit · 05/11/2014 11:43

Yes to Truly Madly Deeply, or Seven Pounds - I cried to the very end of the credits with that one ! Good luck!

MollyBdenum · 05/11/2014 11:45

Watch lovely birth videos on YouTube. When I was in early labour with DC1, I went to buy some some last minute nappies and stuff in Boots. There was a small singing toy Bagpuss mouse and the cuteness racked up my contractions lots. So maybe watch a favourite childhood film and imagine watching it with your child.

LovedandLoyal · 05/11/2014 11:54

The notebook! Cry every time! Also a great film! Smile

LovedandLoyal · 05/11/2014 11:57

Also Marley & me x

Thisisimpossible · 05/11/2014 12:19

Definitely, definitely the first 20/30 minutes of Up - the most emotive start to a film ever and just so lovely.

Truly Madly Deeply is brilliant. And Pharlap for proper cryability (if you're into horses, probably not so much if you're not)

Jacobs Ladder had me full on howling for a good 30 minutes after the film ended. But it's quite messed up and takes some following - probably not ideal for this stage of pregnancy!

MyCrazyLife · 05/11/2014 12:41

I went to see Insidious late on the night of my due date and woke up in labour the next morning :)

skyeskyeskye · 05/11/2014 12:44

i watched PS I Love You when I was pregnant and cried my eyes out.
