My little girl is due a week before christmas and I'm praying she arrives either early or on time. I just want so much to have her with us for christmas, and I don't want to be disappointed if she's late, but what are the odds? Plus I don't want to be heavily pregnant all through christmas and be worrying about turning up at the hospital and them being short staffed or something!

Plus it's gonna be bad enough for her having a birthday so close to christmas, without it being after all the main excitement.

hi there im 36 weeks preg and i was told that only 5% of babies come on there due date!!!
they can come from 37 weeks to 42 so it just when she decides to arrive really!!!

NastyNemo666 · 01/10/2006 22:30

Ds was 15days over.

mumtogusnalbie · 01/10/2006 22:30

Well, I hate to say this but my first was induced at 10 days over and with my second I lied about the date of my last period to give myself an extra week and by my calculations he arrived 17 days late narrowly missing being induced again by the East bank holiday!!
What I can is that it is far less likely the hospital will be understaffed because there will be no planned inductions or cesereans.
Did you have a 28 day cycle because I think this makes a big difference. I always had a 34 day cycle but the hospital didn't seem to take this into account hence my babies being "overdue".
Whatever happens, your baby will arrive when it is ready but I hope for your sake it comes on time because 10 days is a long time to think "anyday now!!"
Good luck,
Lindsey

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 01/10/2006 22:34

First child was DD, who was 9 days early. DS (second) has his birthday on 22 December, poor chap(which was his due date).

Olihan · 01/10/2006 22:36

Ds was due Xmas day 2003, was born New Year's Eve, so 6 days late.

Dd was 12 days late.

A quick word of advice - plan SOMETHING to do on Xmas day if the baby hasn't arrived. We didn't when we were expecting ds and it was so awful. We felt so dispirited and fed up all day and should have made some kind of plans just to distract us.

Dc3 is due this Boxing day and we're going to my PILs (120 miles away) for Xmas. I'm taking my maternity notes and hospital bag/ carseat but I'm not sitting at home all day again .

foundintranslation · 01/10/2006 22:37

My ds arrived at 38 weeks. First babies are often late though.

lotussister · 01/10/2006 22:38

I'm due on Christmas eve, and unfortunately I've read that over 70% of babies overall arrive after their due date, more for first babies or babies of white women (black women have slightly shorter gestations). In fact, in France (where I am) my due date is considered Jan 2! So I'm resigned to my baby having a birthday after Xmas...

Still, you might be one of the lucky few!

hulababy · 01/10/2006 22:40

DD was 12 days later (born after induction and then CS). To be fair though I have since found out she would never have been born as my cervix can't dilate.

bea · 01/10/2006 22:41

dd1 - 10 days early...

Hi there
I'm a mum of one and in New Zealand only 2% of babies are born on their due date and my little girl was one of them.
Good luck to all of you and have a great Cristmas whatever the outcome

Dawnybabe · 02/10/2006 12:20

Thanks everyone, that's some help. And thanks to Olihan for some excellent advice. At least if we're doing something it might take my mind off the fact that she's late! I'll just have to wait and see I guess. It's just the waiting and thinking about it that's winding me up...

Hi Dawnybabe

My DD was 13 days early. First child.
