I'm due non-identical twin boys in mid February. Any other twin-mums to-be out there?

Just found this thread. I am due in December with identical twins.
Wishing everyone the best of luck.

Oh sorry to hear that ninja hope you rest well tonight.

Hi wilddogbert and congratulations...not too long to wait now. Are these your first babies and do you know if you're having boys of girls?

I wondered when you all started to notice a bump. My midwife said in twins it can happen much quicker...I have lost over a stone with being so sick but my belly is swelling! I'm only 11 weeks. x

Hey :-) I'm having non ID twins (a boy and a girl) due 17th Feb. Really hoping for a vaginal birth. These will be babis 4&5 for me with 3 natural births under my belt lol. I'm even scared shitless of having to have an epidural, which I've heard is pretty much standard with twins even if you have a natural birth.
I started feeling my clothes tightening alot around 7 weeks this time around. I also felt really crappie, sick and run down with this pregnancy pretry much from the off. My partner attributed it to me being a couple of years older than last time around and as he put it 'an old croc' (I'm 28!), but I just new something was different about this pregnancy and men toned twins a few times before the 12 week scan, and I was right! X

Hi. I'm having b/g twins, due in December. They'll be my first. I've just started to feel big and a bit uncomfortable.

A few questions for the group.

Have you decided sleeping arrangement? I have spent ages to-ing and fro-ing from co-sleepers to cots and am now thinking cot which they would share til too big, as long as they seem happy with that. Ideally I'd like one with an easy let down side to but-up to my bed, but so far haven't seen or played with one that has a nice smooth mechanism.

Also spent ages being unsure about pram, but have bought baby jogger city select. We went to john lewis and spent ages pushing them and pulling them apart and this one seemed like the easiest. It has very good reviews and the resale value seems to take some of the pain out of the price.

I would like to bf, but with one or two EBF feeds a day if possible. I'm wondering whether a starter feeding set - 6 bottles with sterilizer and brush would do to start with? Does anyone know?

Hello, just found this thread. Nice to know I'm not alone!

I'm 26 weeks today with identical boys (MCDA). EDD should be 3rd Feb but we're planning for an induction at some point in week 37 (12th - 16th Jan).

We've already got a DS who is 5. Found it difficult to cope with the surprise of twins at first and all the changes you need to make from a family of 3 to a family of 5, but now really looking forward to it.

I'm in north Cumbria. There don't seem to be any local twins groups or support which is a shame as some of my other friends with twins have found them invaluable.

My biggest concern right now is making sure they stay on the inside until after Christmas and New Year.... although I might feel differently by then and just want them out!

Have bought the double buggy and car seats; trying to stay relaxed about nothing else being done (we need to change round all our bedrooms to make nursery space which seems to involve building huge amounts of flat pack furniture!).

Hi skunkpixie, juneavrile, 2ontheway and ReeBee and congrats to you all.

juneavrile sorry I can't really help with any of your questions yet, I'm only just 12 weeks so haven't got as far as thinking about all that yet but hopefully some other group members will be able to offer some guidance.

2ontheway how exciting just having had your 13 wk scan, was all well? We have ours next week I can't wait. Have already had 2 scans due to being so sick and a little bleeding earlier in pregnancy but I'm so excited to see the difference in size. Do you think you will find out what sex the babies are?

reebee Twins is such a shock at first isn't it! I don't think I've ever been as speechless in my life. But once you get over the shock it's a lovely feeling isn't it. Have you looked on Tamba for any local twins groups?

I'm still feeling pretty unwell with sickness and nausea but hoping that starts to pass soon with me now hitting 12 weeks - what were others experience of this? Counting down days til scan, can't wait to see the babies on screen and check everything is okay.

Just remembered about this thread. Thanks frecklebee, I had a csection just before mid day last Wednesday. Am now settling in at home after a few days in hospital. My boy was rushed straight to NNU after he was born, I only got to see him for about 30 seconds before they took him there. I think he had a bit of trouble breathing so they stuck him in an incubator, gave him iv antibiotics, constantly measured his heart rate etc and fed him through a tube until Saturday. He is absolutely fine now though and they are both keeping me very busy.

I found the sickness eased slightly from about 16 weeks but came back towards the end of my pregnancy, think most of it was caused by heartburn towards the end though.

Juneavrile, I settled for a cotbed for my b/g twins to share, they seem to be getting on ok at the moment but it is very early days. With feeding I planned on breastfeeding but took a pack of the premade bottles of aptamil with sterilised teats in my hospital bag. I tried to use a bottle in hospital but my girl wouldn't take to it and since ds was being fed through a tube in NNU it was easy to just breastfeed the one. I found it quite difficult to tandem feed in hospital but since being back home tandem feeding has been made easy by using a harmony duo feeding cushion. It's not cheap, think they are around £70/80 but I don't think I could live with out it. Am feeding them now whilst typing this so added bonus of being able to have hands free!!

Hi all and congrats to those with new arrivals!
Just seen this thread so wondered if I could join...non identical twins due beginning April. Am 16.5 weeks now, saw me yesterday and heard both heartbeats still going strong! So reassuring in gap between scans. Wink

Quick question - when did you start buying stuff? Am thinking about what essentials might be needed ie buggy but bit too nervous to buy anything at all before 20wk scan.

When did everyone have their hospital bag packed by? not that I'm panicking

Not bought anything yet (12 weeks) but I think probably will soon. It's been a long and hard struggle getting to 12 weeks so I'd like to celebrate by buying some nice things for our babies. I know waiting til after 20 weeks or later may be wise but I'm not that wise and I'm fed up waiting haha!

Arghhelpme. Congratulations on the arrival of your boy and girl. How many weeks did you get to?
Thanks for the tips. I have a b/f pillow for two - free from a kind person on a facebook twin group. I'm pleased to hear that you can type and feed at the same time. I'm worried that i'll spend so much time feeding - even tandem - that i'll never do anything else.

I started buying stuff at 28 weeks. Am still short of some big things, but have ticked off lots of the newborn essentials that are on the mumsnet list. Just stuck many of the small items including pads, nappies, sports topped water bottles and snacks on my grocery delivery order. Haven't bought huge amounts of clothes, but I did buy some tiny baby all-in-ones from John lewis, they were £3 for 3 and come in red, green and blue. Thought the red and green would be sweet if they're here for xmas.

My twins book says to have a bag packed at 26 weeks - that's pretty organised! I realised I don't really have a bag to use, so have just ordered one from ebay so I don't turn up at maternity unit with a sainsburys carrier!

Thank you. They were born at 37 weeks, I don't think I could have gone on for much longer. One consultant was going to book me in for a c section at 38+ weeks but the consultant who saw me at 36 weeks agreed to 37.

They were 6lb 10 and 6lb 5! So a decent size and explains why I found it so hard to walk or move towards the end.

I started buying straight away, even got a bargain pushchair from work whilst I was TTC, had to sell that though as it was a single.

Fantastic arghhelpme. That's a really decent size - well over average. I cannot believe that I can get much bigger, but still have 7 weeks to make it full term.

I hope you're all doing okay and settling in at home.

I had my 12 weeks scan this week, it went well and was lovely to see our babies and hear their heartbeats. Now 13 weeks so hoping my nausea starts to fade soon! How's everyone else doing?

Hi Frecklebee
Glad your 12 week scan went well. What position were they in? Mine hard to see as both facing my spine and breech.
My nausea went at around 13 weeks and I felt pretty good for all of the second tri and okay now too touch wood.

Report
FreckleBee · 05/11/2014 22:58

That gives me a lot of hope juneavrile, been v sick today but so extra hoping it fades soon. The babies were lying horizontal across my stomach facing each other. Very sweet. So early that they'll prob move lots before due date.
Have yours now moved positions?

I've had terrible pain in my stomach and back today. Been advised it's "round ligament pain" from the ligaments holding my uterus stretching. Of course I had heard of this but couldn't believe it was so sore. Apparently it can be very sore with twins due to extra room being created. Anyone else experience this?

Freckle, my two have moved to heads-down, or have been the last few times I've seen them. They were very hunker-munker last scan, but I think one has shifted over a bit. This helps me keep tabs on their individual movements. How sweet that yours are horizontal.

I had bad pains for two weeks in the first tri. It moved around my uterus / pelvis / upper thighs/ hips and back. My gp sent me to the epu (probably buck passing rather than strictly necessary) and they scanned me even though they were pretty sure that it was just growing pains. I splashed out on an osteopath, but I'm not sure that did anything either. Then it was gone. I felt that RLP descriptions did not quite tally with my experience, but it did feel like stretching. I was told to take paracetamol if it was really uncomfortable, which I did a couple of times when it was bad at night.

I'm expecting in April. I already have 2 and 4 year old boys :-)

I am so so so sick still and am 14.5 weeks - or maybe 15? I've just started showing and absolutely hating telling people.

I love my two other pregnancies and desperately didn't want them to end, but this time I never ever want to do this again. Work and school run are not fun! No rest for the wicked!

FreckleBee · 06/11/2014 11:02

juneavrile It sounds like you had a terrible couple of weeks with what they put down to rlp - I wonder if it's something to do with the massive amount of stretching needed to accommodate twins.

littlesupersparks sorry to hear you have also been very sick. I feel for you and I'm in a similar position, although a couple weeks behind you. Feeling this ill really takes the shine off telling people and makes the pregnancy very very hard. I'm still in shock at how unwell this has made me. Have you been prescribed any antiemetic medication or spoken to your midwife about this?
