4 pregnancy tests, 2 postive and 2 negative!

Here goes...
In August I had a miscarriage but didn't even know I was pregnant, I was around 5-6 weeks. I started taking the pill again and had a period in September. This month however, I am late so yesterday decided I would do a pregnancy test today.

I got up this morning and did a standard strip test which looked negative but when I looked after 2 minutes there was a faint line. I then went out and got a boots own one which was negative (but I didn't leave it for that long because I admit I was relieved it was a neg!)
When I got home I was still unsure so did another test and it was positive, but very faint line. After worrying myself I called my partner and he bought in a digital clearblue test which has told me I am not pregnant.

I am only 3 days late today so I am wondering whether the 2 negatives are negative because I am in the very early stages or whether the 2 positives are wrong?! Could they be coming up positive because of the miscarriage I had? I have read that the digital ones can be unreliable when you haven't got a lot of pregnancy hormones in your first couple of weeks of pregnancy.

I don't have many symptoms other than sore boobs/nipples, feeling bloated and cramps like I would have with a period, so I am wondering whether I might just be late.

When would be the best time to do another one and what are your thoughts here? I haven't been pregnant before other than the miscarriage I had in August and I don't have any children. I have zero experience so hoping some of you guys can help me!

Clear blue digital are one of the least sensitive tests out there I'm afraid - they are generally the last ones you show positive on.

Any positive at all is a positive - even it other tests were neg x

clark1234 · 13/10/2014 15:53

I thought the clear blue with be a definite answer until I read how many people had false negatives off them, it's scary!

I am one of those unlucky people who got a false positive (never buy Sainsburys own brand!). I have never met anyone else who has.

clark1234 · 13/10/2014 16:04

So it can happen?

I wouldn't be so confused if I hadn't had 2 that were positive, surely they both can't be false? The first one of the morning was a stronger line (although faint) than the 2nd one at about half 12 this afternoon.

I hate not knowing :/

It's extremely rare. If you've had 2 positives I'd say the other tests just weren't as sensitive. CB Digital are not very sensitive at all. Check the box/packet- you should see something that said mIU. That indicates the sensitivity of the test. 10miU is very sensitive, 25 is less.

Mctier83 · 13/10/2014 16:18

You asked could they be coming up positive because of the miscarriage in august, I wouldn't think so. When I had my miscarriages they told me if you do a pregnancy test up to 2 weeks later it will still show up as positive but with us now into October I'd imagine they hormones from that pregnancy would be gone. Im also pregnant just now 10wks and the symptoms you've described are all that I've got, Its more or less everything I get when I have my periods except it doesn't go away, I would say just buy another test and try it again tomorrow morning when your hormones are at they're highest, this pregnancy was a surprise for me I nearly collapsed when I saw that faint line! By the following day I was over the moon though.

Bondy83 · 13/10/2014 16:23

Tesco and super drug own pg tests are meant to be very sensitive perhaps try 1 of them with your 1st wee of the day

clark1234 · 13/10/2014 16:29

I will do another test tomorrow. I got a bit impatient and just did one but it was negative. I should have waited because I know it's better to do it in the morning!

I am worried if I am, but then slightly disappointed that I'm not? I guess that's normal. Me and my partner aren't financially ready to have a baby yet but I'm sure we'll manage if it happens.

juneavrile · 13/10/2014 16:37

Completely understand about the wanting / not wanting it to be positive - that's very normal. It's a big thing to digest.
Try and find out what sensitivity your test has - superdrug own are what I used for an early answer and do use first morning wee.
I think it is highly unlikely that you'll have gotten two false positives, so brace yourself. Best wishes.

clark1234 · 13/10/2014 16:45

Hi juneavrile, do you think the 2 positives could be false if they're out of the same packet? I had a pack of 5. Or...I might just be WAY over thinking this and need to wait til in the morning!

I looked on all the packets but couldn't find anything, going to google it and see.

Here's a pic

4 pregnancy tests, 2 postive and 2 negative!

Those tests are almost always 10miu, most sensitive (I know, I have a bag of them from ebay!) And those are positive.

Jessicab95xo · 13/10/2014 17:40

Hi, those tests are defiantly positive! I was the same I took two of those and both of my lines was exactly the same as yours I will find a photo. But then I took another the day after and it said positive. I am now 11 weeks and 5 days pregnant so they do mean positive even if they are faint. Good luck and congratulations in advanced if others say the same x

Cuppachaplz · 14/10/2014 09:56

Those look positive to me, although faint and early.
False positives are very, very rare, and usually mean small amounts of hcg present for another reason
Recheck in the morning after a week for a stronger confirmation. Or see doc for blood test with rising levels to rule out hormones from previous mc.. Sometimes they refer to EPU after a mc, which can also help.
Best wishes xx
If you need support, there is an excellent thread for those pg following mc

VainVulva · 14/10/2014 10:29

Definitely positive to me. Get a first response early test they are extremely reliable and sensitive, if you get a bfp on those then I'd say its a certainty! Good luck either way x

juneavrile · 14/10/2014 13:59

Sorry I missed your question, but you got some answers from others. You got a faint positive x2 on a 10miu. Boots and clear blue dig read from 50miu (I think, not 100%) which might explain the negatives. This suggests your hcg is between 10 and 50 which means you'll likely being showing positive on just about any test by the weekend.
2 false positives in one batch is possible but unlikely...I think many drs surgeries use these simple test strips.
I hope you're feeling okay.

Lins0576 · 14/10/2014 15:27

Hi new today. Not sure if any one had this before. My period is eleven days late but counting back to the first day of my last period it's 38. Have been nauseous and cramps etc. for three days haven't lost any blood but brownish watery stuff only when wiping after a wee. Today got really bad back pain and pain lower abdo and then started bleeding. Did a clear blue test yesterday neg any help

fortywinx · 14/10/2014 15:39

I don't think the IC test lines ever get very dark, but they are supposed to be more sensitive than the CB. Both of those ones in your picture look positive, but you should definitely try again tomorrow with FMU and try and get a FRER if you can find one!

juneavrile · 14/10/2014 16:19

Lins0576 - you've posted on an existing thread rather than created a new one. But, if you're 11 days late I'd expect most tests to show a positive.
You can try another test with the first wee of the morning, but maybe also make a gp appointment. They will test you for pregnancy and if it's negative will try to work out what is happening with you. Good luck.

Melodygrace · 15/10/2014 07:35

Those tests are opks!

mumxof3x · 15/10/2014 08:07

Thats what I thought melody they say LH on them which is what opk's measure.
