At my 25 week check today the mw commented that I am A+ and it was a good blood type as in her personal experience A+ves have quick labours.

She was referring to her experience on the wards, just wondering what your experiences are and if they back up her findings? I'm intrigued!

A+ 30 hour back to back labour that ended with episiotomy and ventouse as dd was in distress.

Very nervous about next birth.

Lookslikeimstuckhere · 07/10/2014 21:52

A+ Hideous. Long labour, baby got stuck, meconium, spinal, epidural, forceps, episiotomy, haemorrhage.

I think in that order, although I was out of it from the pethedine.

Mum was also A+ and also had horrid birth with DSis.

An interesting theory but IME utterly wrong!

WanderingTrolley1 · 07/10/2014 21:53

O+

Labour 1: normal delivery, gas, air, pethidine, 8 hours, large PPH.
Labour 2: induction, gas and air, 3 hours, water birth; perfect experience.
Labour 3, Cat 1 emcs, lost over 3 litres of blood and ill for some time after.

Flyingbytheseatofmypullups · 07/10/2014 21:59

B-
Induced (10 days late) after hind waters burst but nothing else happened. After induction, had 12hr labour resulting in ventouse delivery. Placenta didn't want to budge though and nearly ended up in surgery to remove it.

Bananice · 07/10/2014 21:59

A+

First labour v intense but quick (6 hours from first contraction), needed ventouse as a result of epidural.

Second labour ( a week ago today!) also intense but quick: 3 hours from first contraction despite baby being posterior, gas and air only

stillenacht1 · 07/10/2014 22:04

B-

Horrible! 18 hr induced labour followed by emcs

Biscuitsneeded · 07/10/2014 22:12

A+. 1st labour 8 hours start to finish although baby was posterior, no problems except a couple of small tears.
2nd labour officially documented as 32 minutes. Doddle.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/10/2014 22:13

O+ hideous both times (forceps and ventouse)

bakingtins · 07/10/2014 22:17

A+, 3 quick labours (7 hours, 2 hours, 80 mins)

I've never heard this theory before, how on earth could it make a difference?

Good luck op hope it proves true for you.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/10/2014 22:17

A pos here.

Dc1 did have G&A and agreed to an episiotomy when full labour seemed to stall but was quite quick for a first birth. Was told to come to the hospital straightaway with any subsequent labours or "I'd be having it in the carpark"

Dc2 from first contraction to arrival in less than 4 hours. Had some G&A but the dizzy feeling got on my nerves so I threw it away and relied on screaming instead Grin

Interestingly my bf is O minus and her contractions went on for 3 days before she was admitted then she was 48 hours in hospital before an emergency section.

MindReader · 07/10/2014 22:21

AB+.
2 scheduled c-secs on orders of Consultant due to standing breech and transverse presentations.

hugefatso · 07/10/2014 22:23

My mother was A+, had 2 hour labours, just gas and air, up and on her feet an hour afterwards.

BonnieBeaumont · 07/10/2014 22:26

O- straightforward, quick labour!

DrBlondie · 07/10/2014 22:35

A+ and 33 weeks with first child so hope it's true!

Hakluyt · 07/10/2014 22:38

I hope you said "where is your evidence for that crackpot idea?"

PassTheAnswers · 07/10/2014 22:44

A+

Labour 1: horrific. 80+ hours back to back with no progression. Forceps and emcs under GA

Labour 2: hoping it'll be a breeze with a planned elcs!

bonbonpixie · 07/10/2014 23:01

A+ here and although not straightforward it was very quick. 3-10cm in under an hour. If DD hadn't refused to turn in my pelvis think it would have been over and done with in under two hours!

chickydoo · 07/10/2014 23:06

AB-
72 hours......awful, nearly died
48 hrs.....not great
24 hrs....better
36 hrs.....ok ish

misog2000 · 07/10/2014 23:11

O+ induced by pessary, 5 hrs period type pains, a pop and then 30 mins proper contractions, 8 mins pushing. Home the same day, felt back to normal (bar the stitches) by about day 4, I know I was extremely lucky Smile

Skoggy · 07/10/2014 23:15

AB-
DD1: 30 hours+ but nothing out of the ordinary
DD2: Had a trainee midwife alone with me, was awful. Ended up having a spontaneous birth in the toilet because the trainee didn't listen to a word I was saying. Having said that, no problems, was straight forward.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 08/10/2014 13:47

AB-

DS1 was 12 hours
DS2 2 days

No stiches with either but haemorrhaged after both and had awful recoveries.

Vagndidit · 08/10/2014 13:50

A+, horrific labor, baby sitting back to back, failed epidural, failure to progress, EMCS under general and post haemorrhage transfusion. Good times.

weeblueberry · 08/10/2014 13:54

I'm A+ and had a fab birth. Easy early labouring through the night, went into triage the next morning (for induction as my waters had gone 48 hours before) and had a 4 hour labour after that. Obviously I was induced though so that throws a spanner in the works but the midwife did seem pretty shocked it was only 4 hours too.

BiggerYellowTaxi · 08/10/2014 14:00

A+ here. First labour was awful, long, involved lots if vomiting and ended in a ventouse delivery. Second was shorter (contractions building all day but still took 7 hours in hospital) and fairly straightforward but DD was born "stargazing" and I needed another episiotomy. And I had a PPH due to a retained placenta which required manual removal in theatre. So no, birthing easy isn't in my blood.

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 08/10/2014 14:03

O
Truely awful both times

Seems a lot of 'o's weren't great on here
