At my 25 week check today the mw commented that I am A+ and it was a good blood type as in her personal experience A+ves have quick labours.

She was referring to her experience on the wards, just wondering what your experiences are and if they back up her findings? I'm intrigued!

O+
1 EMCS, 1 forceps

PacificDogwood · 07/10/2014 21:07

A+

Post-term induction
emCS at 31 weeks
VBAC
VBAC

Blood group has nothing to do with it!
Silly comment.

I am all for instilling confidence in woman that their bodies are capable of successfully labouring and delivering a baby, but not by perpetuating weird myths.

treaclesoda · 07/10/2014 21:07

O negative. And labour was horrific, complicated, and with significant blood loss.

purplemeggie · 07/10/2014 21:08

A+ Breech baby and in labour for over 24 hours so I was coerced into a c-section. Can't see how blood group can have any correlation to birth length....surely it's about pelvic size, baby size and baby positioning, all of which could vary with any blood group...

lucjam · 07/10/2014 21:10

O+ hideous failed induction. After 13 hours of drip and getting nowhere had an emcs which resulted in a time in intensive care due to blood loss.

Perissa · 07/10/2014 21:12

O-

Labour was longish, 21 hours from first contraction to DS being out. Had a tens machine as my only pain relief and had no complications or tearing. I was 19 at the time

Next one due in March and hopefully it will be the same.

YoHoHoandabottleofWine · 07/10/2014 21:12

B+

Labour 1: 28 hours established labour and lots of intervention

Labour 2: 11 mins established labour

I had the same blood type both times...

RunDougalRunQuiteFast · 07/10/2014 21:12

B neg, 48 hrs messing about 14 days over date then em cs.

MissMalonex2 · 07/10/2014 21:16

A rh neg

Labour 1 - 48 hrs
Labour 2 - 54 minutes Shock

balia · 07/10/2014 21:19

Oooh so glad there was finally someone on the thread with the same blood type as me!

B+

Labour 1 Very long, tough getting started, 24 hours, they broke my waters for me, but only needed gas and air (well, I asked for other stuff and they wouldn't give me any) but massive haemorrhage. Mind you, I was told that red-haired mothers always bleed loads - is this another myth we need to check?

Labour 2 Prem after water broke v early so wasn't allowed to labour long, emergency cs. Prob doesn't count?

Wafflenose · 07/10/2014 21:19

I cannot possibly imagine what blood type has to do with it, but I'll play...

Labour 1 - 24 hours, pushing for a very long time, LOTS of gas and air, 2nd degree tear. Hospital.

Labour 2 - 10.5 hours, completely manageable until the last few minutes, and no time for gas. Slightly less tearing, but a lot of bleeding. Home.

Wafflenose · 07/10/2014 21:20

Whoops, I forgot to say I'm B+. Duh!!

Wafflenose · 07/10/2014 21:21

Ooh Balia I have red hair too, and the same blood type! Bled loads with DD2 but not DD1, so it can't be true.

Methe · 07/10/2014 21:21

A+ 4hrs start to finish no bother.

HexBramble · 07/10/2014 21:26

Intriguing!

I'm A+

Baby 1: 14 hr labour, no tearing or straining. Relaxed birth, gas and air. Home same day

Baby 2: 4 hr labour, again has and air only and no tearing. Very relaxed and stress free, home same day.

Cocoaone · 07/10/2014 21:26

A+ - bloody painful/intense but very quick labour - 3hrs 50 mins but was ready to push about an hour before I actually did, they just didn't check as they assumed I wouldn't be fully dilated Hmm. Gas and air, couple of small grazes/tears

MewlingQuim · 07/10/2014 21:29

AB+

Straightforward labour and birth, no drugs required, no interventions. 26h start to finish.

I think the blood group theory is bollocks, though Grin

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 07/10/2014 21:29

The human brain loves to spot patterns. I suspect it wouldn't bear out in large scale statistics.

ch1134 · 07/10/2014 21:30

O-
Awful.
Back to back, 24 hours, ventouse, episiotomy and tear, 6 months to heal.
I had an easy pregnancy too and wish you a better labour! But this thread might be worrying you now!

Showy · 07/10/2014 21:30

O+
Not great tbh

ClearlyMoo · 07/10/2014 21:31

O +

18hrs contractions at home before getting too much and arriving at hospital 7cm dilated.

Fairly straightforward labour, 40min pushing, big baby, 3rd degree tear, small haemorrhage.

I'm not a redhead but do have what I like to call "ginger skin" (fair & freckles) and dentists always say I need extra local anaesthetic like a red head!

duvetfan · 07/10/2014 21:31

A+ and first labour was 4.5 hours textbook delivery. Due D2 next week. Hoping for something similar this time.

YoHoHoandabottleofWine · 07/10/2014 21:34

It might not be a completely barmy theory though - there are various diseases/cancers that you are more or less likely to get depending on blood type, maybe the hormone that gets labour going or keeps it going or something works better in A+s? Or something? Although all the other factors (baby position, size etc) would impact it, it might be enough to be noticable?

breakfastnotattiffanys · 07/10/2014 21:35

B+ 1) 28 hours long with all pain relief available(not epidural) stitches

2) 5 hours v painful only gas and air - no stitches
3) induced and 28 hours from start to finish - lots of pain and all the drugs known to man - no stitches. I stupidly agreed to induction because I thought my body knew the drill and it would be like Number 2- short and sharp Didn't happen!
cakedcrusader · 07/10/2014 21:39

O+ and both were precipitous labours.
