Poncey Names?

I'm nearly 12 weeks pregnant with my second child.

DH and I have chosen names already but I'm starting to think they could be the source of mockery for the baby but I love these names. They're unusual (apart from my hearing lots of dog owners shouting, "Barnaby!," recently!) and dunno, I just like 'em.

What do you think? Am I going to subject my child to misery?

Boy
Atticus Elijah or Barnaby Elijah

Girl
Ophelia Pearl
Gretchen Violet

Know a baby Atticus and like the name, parents gave him a less unusual middle name so that if on the off chance he didn't like it as he grew up he had a choice.

Am a dog "Barnaby" owner, like the name (suits my dog)

I love these name threads! DH and I can amuse ourselves for a whole car journey coming up with names like Agamemnon and Vlad! The we start taking names from road signs like Chester and Bassett!

WRT the OP I think all the names are lovely, thought Ophelia does remind me of a joke where the answer is 'Ophelia bottom' (can't remember what the joke is!).

I like Lila or Sapphire for a girl, but I have terrible decison making capabilities and know I'm going to pick something and months later hear another name and think it sounds more interesting!

I worked with babies in a Uni in Wales for a time and heard some lovely names. I love Twm (Welsh for Tom, but kinda pronounced 'toom') I just think it so cool to have a name with no vowels! But DH hates it. We also had a baby girl come in called Llawen, which they got from Nadolig Llawen which means Merry Christmas so Llawen roughly translates as happy, joyous, merry type thing. I thought it was lovely.

I do love foreign names but they don't always work with a home counties accent! I love Beatrice but only when pronounced in a sexy french way like 'Bayatris'!

I like gretchen, it sounds like a girl from a russian fairy tale.
Ophelia is hard to shorten though
Atticus is cool because of the Mocking bird novel, I really like Scout for a girl too.
You have good taste.

My brother went to school with a Tabitha Sweetapple which i thought was the most delightful name. There was something very quaint and oldfashioned about her that suited the name and I don't remember her getting that much flack from it
