Hospital stay with a c-section

How long do you normally stay for a c-section? I know there are a lot of variables but it would be good to get an idea of averages and what factors can influence a shorter or longer stay.

I'm in London if that makes any difference.

I had an EMCS for my first child - born early Tuesday morning and discharged Friday evening, I think if you have a planned CS your stay is likely to be shorter.

3-5 days. ime (had cs with ds 1 and ds3) it depends on how quickly you are up and walking around and how well your wound is healing.

I discharged myself on day 3 with ds3 (ds2 asd and was getting anxious in the change of routine and the gp were finding it difficult) Drs were rather annoyed and issued strict instructions to stay in bed which I did. (more or less)

I've had 2 sections and stayed 2 nights with both

Same as theborrower, DS born Tuesday morning got home on Friday night. Would have went home a day earlier but had an infection and had to stay until my temp stayed down.

A smidge over 24 hours with my first (planned) section. About 2 days with my second (emergency).

First one four nights, second one two nights. I was much more savvy about getting pain relief the second time. :o

C section Saturday evening, discharged Wednesday Afternoon.

Ds was born on a wed by elcs and we did not get to go home until the Monday - this wasn't because of me but because he'd lost too much weight and thy wanted him to stay until he started gaining.

First one was just under 48 hours, 2nd one was 26 hours

Both elective

Ooooh first one was 5 days

Natural birth (little ratbag wouldn't feed..took him 3 and a half weeks!!!)

In Barnsley, I was kept in 3 nights for an emcs (although stayed longer as ds was not well) and 4 for a crash cs (although stayed in longer as I needed more surgery). Up the road in Leeds, a friend was sent home after 12 hours.

5 years ago with EMCS it was 3 nights for me.

This year, with an ELCS it was 1 night -had DS Monday morning, was home Tuesday afternoon.

I had an emergency c section last Thursday morning and got discharged Saturday afternoon. Would have been Friday but the doctor forgot to come and see me

I was In 3 days with ds cs that was emcs and I'm having a elcs in 3 weeks and although they say this one is a tad tricky they estimate 3 days but have to have a celexane for 1 week so might be in for 1 week

2 sections both done mid afternoon.
Home the following evening.

My first emcs took place on the Friday morning I was out the Sunday lunch time but would have been out the Saturday but nobody was available to check dd.

Having an elective in 7 days and midwife says all being well I'll be out within 24 hours. Hope so!!

My first son I stayed in for 3 nights, that was an emergency csection, having an elective c section this time and they haven't actually said in also in London x

3 ELCS, stayed 2 nights first time, 1 the second time and had to ask to stay 2 nights this time as standard practice to discharge after 1 night. This was at Kings.

DS born Sat 6pm, home Mon mid afternoon.

No complications but discharge paperwork took most of Monday.

frankie won't they let you have the clexane at home? DH had to inject me

4 weeks but cimplications

1st EMCS 2 nights
2nd EMCS 2 nights

Both times offered a third night, but I just wanted to get home.

3rd ELCS with whole blood volume loss and emergency hysterectomy 5 nights/6 days.

After 2nd and third I had clexane injections to do myself at home.

Thanks. My Australian family are all telling me they stayed in a week, which felt far too long. Must be different medical approach.

This will be a planned c-section but possibly a traditional vertical incision rather than the normal bikini line one. Had anyone had that done?

Also has anyone has anything else done at the same time. Such as a hysteroscopy or fibroid removal? I have lots of gynae problems, so rather than another operation it would be good to get things done in one go. Best to be efficient!!
