Hospital stay with a c-section

How long do you normally stay for a c-section? I know there are a lot of variables but it would be good to get an idea of averages and what factors can influence a shorter or longer stay.

I'm in London if that makes any difference.

First c/s (emergency) 3 days
Second c/s (elective) 6 days due to major internal bleeding and transfusions, not fun.

1 night. I was desperate to get discharged as had been in 5 nights having a very slow induction.

Emergency C Section I was in 5 days...but that was because I was ill. Planned section was on a Monday and because it was at 12.30pm that mm eant an extra night so I wasn't home until Thursday. Plus they were too busy to do my discharge notes all day so it was after 6pm. So I was hanging about all day!

My 1st c-section in 2002 was a two night stay but by 2010 for my second c-section, I was allowed out after one night. They wasn't entirely keen but had no real reason to say no (obs were fine) and did agree.

I had an emergency c section on the Saturday am and was not discharged till the Monday pm. I think this was due to my waters having broken over 24hrs prior to the section, I was still asking for oramorph and lo was early but healthy.

I have a friend who had her 4th in November who was out within 24hrs and two friends in for 4 days with their 1st.

Yes I had a traditional vertical incision with my third cs time2deal.

Tiredemma · 21/07/2014 19:40

I had anEMCS at 11pm on the Sat night= was discharged at 3pm on the monday

time2deal · 21/07/2014 19:42

Anotherstitchintime did you find it any different? I'm not sure if I will, but it's possible due to a large number of previous surgeries that have messed around with my anatomy. One surgeon said he would for sure, but the one actually doing the c-section doesn't seem to agree.

I was in for 6 days EMCS and a mahoosive cyst removed

Yes different in a long term healing sense for core strength. At the time it felt much the same as post lscs, but because of blood loss and the hysterectomy I was more tired. I think if you are having extra procedures and incision healing on uterus (mine was gone so didn't have uterine contraction scar tissue pain) then you need to be prepared for slightly longer recovery and more tiredness. It took me 8 weeks to be where I was at 6 weeks with the first two cs.

Although internally I felt worse and had more swelling after my first emcs than my elcs due to stuck baby and attempted ventouse/forceps.
