anyone using/used/planning on using the NCT bednest?

I know there are other threads on this and its pros and cons, and will have a read, but just got a specific question.

I used a moses basket by bed for DS which I brought into living room during the day (we were living in a flat on single floor at the time so this was v easy). DS was in his cot by 3 weeks which we kept in our room until we moved house when he was 7mo and we put him in his own room.

Our current bedroom set up means there isn't room for the cot by our bed (plus, DS is still in it in his room) so looking at getting a second hand moses basket again.

However, am tempted by the bednest and horizontal nighttime bfeeding...

My question is this - how easy is it to bring between rooms? Need somewhere to put DC down during the day, and although I know it can be moved between rooms, how easy is this really, and especially down and up stairs?

Shall I also get a cheap moses basket for downstairs?

I am planning on renting one but have bought a second hand Moses basket as well cos it was cheap... I don't think they look that easy to carry around the house tbh. Mainly because with a Moses basket the long handles mean you can carry it one handed and have a hand free for banisters / baby / etc. You couldn't do that with the bednest. It must be heavier too.
Also I have seen friends carry the Moses basket with the baby in when it's small (although no idea if this is recommended or not), just from room to room, and again I don't think this would be easy with the bednest. Think well just use it as a static crib.

A bit early for me to decide but I like the idea of the bednest or something similar (there was a bigger cot version where you could drop a side and raise it to bed hight but not sure if it'd be too big for the space in our bedroom). If possible I'll get one second hand and buy a new mattress.

I will be looking for a second hand moses basket for downstairs as our stairs are quite steep and I'd prefer to carry baby or use a sling for them.

We just bought one, still not delivered.We have enought room for a cot bed in our bedroom, but not immediately near the bed, so I believe -after reading all reviews- NCT bednest will make my life a bit easier st night time. We could have rented, but we found out only after pressing "pay" button. Also I was surprised that you cant get it 2nd hand or on ebay- no offers at all.

I have one and decided to buy new because it was in the sale and it's my first baby. They have very good resale on ebay (almost as much as new) so a worthwhile investment if you are hoping for a few babies.

It is fairly heavy so I will definitely be using my friends Moses basket downstairs in the day.

Actually, Marnierose is right. The reason why we bought new is because on ebay 2nd hand goes for as much as new one.

We have bought a bednest and plan to leave it in the bedroom as it would take quite some faffing to un-strap it from the bed frame to move it anywhere else. Planning to use our travel system carrycot on a stand (uppababy-suitable for naps) during the daytime and just use the bednest at night.

I got an eBay bednest. (And yes by the time you factor in price of a new mattress, the saving on brand new wasn't massive - but I figure it will sell again afterwards).

They are pretty heavy so not really convenient for lugging about the house, so I have a Moses basket for downstairs too. And a cotbed in the nursery. And a pram bassinet. Obviously now expecting one of those babies that refuses to settle in any of these places!

We hired one. It was a nice design and fit in quite a small gap down the side of my bed. The only problem was, the skirting around the edge of my bed meant there was a gap between my mattress and the bednest so it didn't really work how I wanted it to. Also, I had to send one back as the clip to secure the base when you adjust the height decided to fail and the whole thing collapsed with my DD inside They claimed it had never happened before and sent me a new one which seemed ok.

I wouldn't find it very easy to transport between rooms as it's pretty heavy. It folds up quite nicely though and we used it instead of a travel cot when staying away which was handy as she was used to sleeping in it.

I was gutted when DD was too big for it and I had to move her in to a proper cot! I now have to actually get out of bed to see to her in the night

The only other problems with it was I didn't feel happy leaving DD in there if I popped in to another room as it wasn't very sturdy (especially as she got older and wriggled more). And she loves bashing her legs up and down when she's laid in bed and it made an awful racket

I don't think I'd use one again if we had another baby.

I used one and loved it. But couldn't carry it from room to room. Like pp I used it as a travel cot even takin it abroad which was great.

I didn't find it unstable at all but didn't really leave ds in it much apart from sleeping when I was generally there too.

Ds never took to the cot so would just sleep in pram or sling if downstairs.

I mean he never took to the Moses basket. He actually slept well in the bedside crib.

We used this with 5 of our DC, and then moved them to a cosleep when they were too big. It made bonding and feeding so much easier, and it helped DH able to bond too :) we'll be using it again this PG.

Ahh, I thought you meant a bednest that went on the bed. I call this a co-sleeper, and we used it will all our DC.

I am a big fan. Saw it at the baby show. (In fact I know I go on too much about it!) also follow on FB and saw they had an amazing offer including 2 white sheets. (I know I sound like their rep.) the crib is really easy to lift off the base - and just leave the stand attached to bed. It is heavier than a Moses basket - but it's made of beech wood so would expect it to be. We read that we shouldn't use 2nd hand Moses as they can trap germs because of materials and construction. Would def rent again - came with all new fabrics and would swear that the crib had never even been used. And if had questions got answers from the company in minutes - not a big corporate - just a few dedicated parents running it.

I think it'd be fairly easy to move the top bit to another room for daytime but I had already got a secondhand Moses basket so used that downstairs. I did love the bednest and it made night feeds so much easier, although the bridge bit is a little hard so it isn't quite as simple as rolling the baby towards you.
It definitely helped me keep DS in with us longer: past 4m. He was starting to get a little big for it then but genus super long.
And any old 'crib' sheets fitted just fine IMHO.

Jenni I squeezed my dd in until 6 months

The John Lewis crib sheets (2 for £11ish I believe) fit very well.

Can I just ask a quick question as also thinking about getting one of these, what happens with your bedding? How do you stop duvets etc creeping over to them, and potentially over them, when you are sleeping if they are right next to you?

The side can go up, half way or all the way, which I really liked.
It packs down small for travel, even with stand it's easier to get in the car than a Moses basket. I guess it just weighs sloghy more than a basket, but I reckon you could carry it under your arm ok.
I used asda crib sheets, they weren't a perfect fit but were fine.

Similar, cheaper and designed so that you simply lift the top off to move to another room, rather than moving the whole thing.

You only take the top bit off the bednest, the stand is tethered to the bed frame. The sides then told in to make it flat so it's quite easy to move.

RedToothBrush - just found this. I suppose you get what you pay for. Although you can't rent a snuzpod. It shows which does what!

I prefer the look of the snuzpod, it's lighter and it rocks, but have only seen them online, so would love to hear from anyone who has compared them both.

Maybe - but I suppose some facts are facts. It's either made in China or it isn't. The fabrics are machine washable or they're not. Etc. Etc. :) we can't all like the same things or we'd all be driving the same car. :)
