I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Kali sounds like a marginal improvement at least (all thugs being relative...).

The stupid work doc has recommended that my phased return be ramped up to 4h a day (no chance!) so have rung GP to get signed off again. Idiot. I don't know why I bothered trying to do a few hours in the first place. Slept really badly as was stressing about it so now being super sick today.

Welcome to all the newbies. Sympathy and a friendly ear always available.

Lottiedoubtie · 17/07/2014 12:17

Oh okla your work doctor sounds like a total idiot. What on earth is he hoping to achieve?

I'm so grateful my work isn't efficient enough to have a work doctor so I never had to deal with that one!

kali good to hear tentative good news from you, hang in there.

basgetti · 17/07/2014 12:28

Glad you are doing slightly better kali, hope you continue to feel better.

I saw GP this morning, he has given me Metoclopramide to try. Praying it works!

Trondheim · 17/07/2014 12:42

Thank you meerka. The dr was very nice and gave me cyclizine (and a printout about ginger which well say no more about). Seems good so far. I could sleep for a year.

Work doctor sounds a total dong.

HenriettaTurkey · 17/07/2014 12:55

Oh, Okla, yet again it seems as though you workplace & mine are related. And your efforts to work, and response to exhaustion/stress are similar too.

I'm so pleased (if you know what I mean) that you have got yourself signed off. Best for you; best for baby.

And your work appear to be looking a gift horse in the mouth by taking advantage of your conscientious attitude.

Rest up...and rest guilt free. You are doing absolutely the right thing.

Meerka · 17/07/2014 14:58

okla well that works doctor shot himself in the foot didnt he? what happened to working -with- the sick person to help them back to work.

basgetti meto does help some people, hope you're one of them. How long has your doc put you on them for?

trondheim give the cyclizine about 3 days, if you havent improved by then ask them for something stronger :) good luck.

Oklahoma · 17/07/2014 15:05

Meerka how is your little one getting on? Remind us all what we're aiming for please!

Lottiedoubtie · 17/07/2014 15:29

basgetti meto is my saviour, so fingers crossed for you!

I have newborn baby grows freshly washed and hanging up and DH is back in 15 mins life is good in my household today!

basgetti · 17/07/2014 15:35

The doctor didn't give me a timescale, he just gave me a box of 90 and said if they don't help I'll need readmitting to hospital. I don't want to tempt fate but so far so good, I haven't been sick since this morning and have kept my lunch and fluids down. That's an achievement for me at the moment!

basgetti · 17/07/2014 15:36

Sorry for double post!

starrynight123 · 17/07/2014 18:21

okla what a total moron your work GP is. Ugh. He sounds utterly incompetent and I'm surprised your work is employing him given that he is stopping their staff from working!!!

kali glad you are doing a little better and how nice that your dad was there for such a special moment.

bas good luck with the meta - it helped me too!!

livingzuid · 17/07/2014 19:01

Just catching up, kali my god you poor thing. I was quite frightened to see the palliative care team were down to see you so I am glad it isn't because you need palliative care as such! Have they contacted specialists like punk's prof? As for mothers and hg and just in general, urgh. That's a whole other thread on its own. Good that the hospital counsellor is involved. Really hope they find the right combination of medication for you soon.

george I found the third tri hard but not as bad as the first. It does fluctuate. I just got crazy food aversions even more than normal which was hard as I struggled to eat anything.

okla don't feel bad about not being excited. The time to be excited is when the baby arrives. Really in terms of stuff you just need some onesies, some sleep suits, a change mat, car seat, sleeping basket or crib, scratch mitts, a pram, nappies, bepanthen, muslins and a formula starter pack in case you have any problems with breastfeeding. It's called Nutrilon here but I think the UK one is

Just catching up, and have been trying to send this since yesterday! kali my god you poor thing. Really in terms of stuff you just need some onesies, some sleep suits, a change mat, car seat, sleeping basket or crib, scratch mitts, a pram, nappies, bepanthen, muslins and a formula starter pack in case you have any problems with breastfeeding or you're saddled with a midwife with more bias than sense. It's called Nutrilon here but I think the UK one is Aptimil or something like that.

Thank you for the food advice post pregnancy. I was discharged yesterday after my six week check but the food thing could take up to six months to go away. And my joints are killing still. All these things they don't tell you about post pregnancy!

Sorry to all the newcomers.

livingzuid · 17/07/2014 19:17

Sorry have no idea why my phone posted an incomplete message Blush

livingzuid · 17/07/2014 19:23

okla I am rolling my eyes really, what a tool your work doctor is. When did he become an hg expert. Stay signed off for the rest of your pregnancy.

Meerka · 17/07/2014 20:28

okla the little one is absolutely a delight. He and Big Brother are close friends already =) He's smiling lots and it's definitely not haphazard, he smiles in response to me / Papa / whoever. ANd he's just beginning to actually laugh a bit =) The sleep could be better - a lot better - but oh, he's a joy!

basgetti fingers crossed they are helping =)

If you get a lot of twitchiness, mention it to your doc though. Most people are fine on it, but that's a bit of a cue to stop taking it. The baby will be fine tho!!

lovely to see ya again living

elizabethsmum · 17/07/2014 22:51

Hi everyone 'old and new'!
Just been catching up on the thread....
Hope you were just having a 'one off' bad day rather than a relapse george? Heat /humidity will also be playing havoc with hydration levels and maybe not helping I guess?- clutches at straws and hopes for you xx

kali impressed that you are an 'interesting case' for the drs! Glad you have had slight improvements- are you on constant cyclizine pump drive with boosts of steroids? (Did I get that right?) cyclizine can be effective if it manages to get into your system and remain there! Although I was not in the same league as you with hg I found the most effective treatment for me in the end in the second preg was daily injections of cyclizine (from weeks 11-15 and then when I had started to feel better, taking it orally up to 28 weeks) it did however not work at all really from weeks 7-11 and also not at all in first preg. Am hoping that you have continued a few vomit free hours xx

Great to see chaffinch and mrsgembles

Waves to all and mother-hen style reminder to everyone to take it especially carefully during heatwave- rife for dehydration being much worse xx

kalidasa · 18/07/2014 07:48

Lord, my ketones are STILL 4+. Thought I'd done ok yesterday and managed to eat a little bit, but obviously not enough. Throwing up this morning but they've already put the steroids through the drip so hoping they will kick in a bit soon and give me a break. Hope everyone else is hanging in there and no-one else is in hospital.

Meerka · 18/07/2014 10:07

:( fingers crossed you get a break too. I suppose at least you're one day forwards ...

elizabethsmum · 18/07/2014 10:47

oh blast kali you definitely deserve a break. Hope the steroids are starting to kick in now. Has the dreaded tube feeding been mentioned again yet? Sending positive vibes (although realise this is little help) we are all willing you on xxxxx

starrynight123 · 18/07/2014 13:42

kali how awful!! can they not feed you through a drip as well as give you liquid/medication through one?? I'm pretty sure that is how my dad got his nutrition when he was in intensive care...

kalidasa · 18/07/2014 14:49

Have just seen dietician who has recommended tube feeding now. I think they're going to give me the weekend to see if I can eat any more but if I'm not any better on Monday it'll have to be a tube. Can't imagine it will be much fun having a tube put down when you feel sick all the time.

Oklahoma · 18/07/2014 16:34

Kali you poor poor thing!

Stupid question but how will that help? Surely you'll still throw it up whether you're eating it or it's being delivered through a tube?

kalidasa · 18/07/2014 17:06

Okla apparently they can put the tube all the way down a bit beyond your stomach so you can't throw the stuff up. I imagine you can still throw up bile etc as normal, only it must be awful to vomit with a tube in, not looking forward to that at all, hope we can still avoid it.

I actually find v spicy food easier so nutritionist suggested switching to the hospital halal menu which is mostly south Asian stuff, going to try that.

Some good news: in desperation DH went out and bought a KFC zinger burger which I could sometimes eat last time and I actually managed to get it down! Not sure if I'll keep it down but at least I could swallow it and there must be loads of calories in such total junk food surely?!

Bowels still totally stuck though which is another problem.
