Went to Mothercare for maternity bras and left with nothing!!!

28weeks in decided I really should get myself done bras that fit, currently wearing my usual 32d which I'm busting out of and wires popping out! So off I went to Mothercare, was measured at a 32E and the choice was bloody awful they are huge and stuck out the top of my vest top I was wearing by a good 3 inches!

Couldn't bring myself to part with £30 for something so bloody ugly!

Never had these issues before as Breast never changed in first two pregnancies and no milk came in! It was only after my boob job and I got pregnsnt with my 3rd that my boobs got bigger and I produced milk but at the time I had lots of my sports/support bras left over from my op so wore them! Now 7 years later they are long gone!

Please tell me somewhere sells nicer materinty bras instead of those godawful straight jackets Mothercare offer???

Lots of places sell non underwired bras so they shpuld do until the birth. Give Bravissimo a visit

I got a couple from the NCT website. They were stretchy and supportive and stretched with me iyswim.

Debenhams fit me the best and were 26 for two.

Bravissimo.

And double check your measurements. I'm not wholly convinced mothercare are great at measuring.

If you head over to style and beauty and post a threat titled "bra intervention please" and post your measurements under your ribs and around your boobs leaning forwards you should get a near accurate size.

You don't have to wear non-wired if you don't want to. You might be better getting fitted for an underwired bra and adding an extender to the band as your ribcage expands.

Yeah I did wonder about the measuring as they do it the old way in Mothercare,

Was just hoping to get something a little more attractive looking and not so huge, it's summer I don't want to be having to wear a poloneck just to hide my bra

Bravissimo are good but don't let them bully you into buying a back size that's too small. My fitter insisted I was a 36 (I'm a size 18 on top, I don't THINK so!) and the bras she shoe-horned me into were like torture devices. I stood firm and asked for a 38 - MUCH better - I could actually breathe!

I think the standard Bravissimo line is to reduce the back size and up the cup size, which doesn't work for all women!

Mrsgem - it's true that sometimes a bra can be too small round the back if fitted incorrectly but dress size isn't indicative of band size. I'm a size 16-18 and I measure exactly 30 inches around my ribs. I'm a 30GG. My arms and general size make up my dress size but my rib cage is actually quite small.

I agree, broadly, but I honestly couldn't breathe, and the straps cut into my shoulders!

Sometimes they do get it wrong :) .. I've been measured as everything between a 28F and a 36D before in various places! You need to find something that's comfortable otherwise you'll never wear it which kind of defeats the purpose :)

Debenhams bras are good. Mothercare ones are awful anyway... By the end of the day I have 4 boobs! Not a good look! Needless to say they were a total waste of money!

I got mine from a marks and Spencer's outlit it was a set of two for £18 and they fit really well :)

I am a 32F (up from a 32DD) and M&S was a waste of time. They only start sizes above a DD in a 34 or 36 under band (I can't remember which, 36 I think as Id have probably gone for a 34) in both maternity and non wired.

Debenhams was my shout, and there is a sale on at the moment with a few maternity bras included. They aren't the most attractive, but far better for you than wired!

I recently caved in and got measured properly, up from a 34D to a 36DD. I found John Lewis absolutely amazing and would recommend them based on my experience. They have a good selection of non wired, non maternity bras which still offer lots of support. Not cheap mind but I bought 2 there then tottered off to Primark for some wired ones in my correct size, its amazing how well cheap ones can fit when you're actually wearing the right size Smile

Mothercare and M&P disappointed me a bit with maternity bras.

Debenhams have some nicer, more attractive maternity bras (and they measure you). I am also wearing non-wired M&S bras, which aren't specifically maternity but were recommended by a friend. I also wear crop-top style sports bras (Primark and M&S) under t-shirts round the house.

As some PP have mentioned, you can wear wired bras if they fit perfectly. I have one I wear with smart clothes for the evening now and then, but not every day simply because I love the comfort!!

I got measured in mothercare and m&s both of which measured me at 34 something...considering my usual bra size is between 34 and 36 and i was feeling like i couldn't breathe in my usual bra (and the 34s they gave me to try left big red dents in my skin within minutes!) i ended up just buying non wired 38's in m&s and just ignored the "expert" fitters. Just went with what was comfy and looked nice. I agree the mothercare range is awful and expensive!

M&S have a couple on sale at the moment, but can't vouch for them. I bought myself a couple from john Lewis and they are amazing.

I've gone up from a 32-34 D to being measured for a 36E at 21 weeks, i hate all maternity bras, esp for vest tops, the only ones i've found (agree they are all huge, like clown size huge for what's needed, it's like they get rid of the wire and add loads of fabric to the top instead) were the mothercare black and white 2 pack and a debenhams non maternity 2 pack in a 38DD (36 feels tight some days) that are okay for vests, the straps are too wide and you can still see a little of bra by my armpits but i just couldn't find any other ones to go for! i can not wait to get out of these things and get back to normal size.

Check out Hot Milk online: they have some very pretty maternity and feeding bras. I also managed to track down some underwired nursing bras for dd3, which were completely life changing (I kid you not) but it took substantial effort.

They were so great that a friend took them from me to use herself after I had weaned dd3 Grin

Mothercare bras are fucking awful - ridiculously small size range that they try and squeeze everyone into. I'd try bravissimo. They are about £30 each but at least they actually fit.

Kiddicare had some lovely bras in when I looked the other day. They also have a sale on this week too :)
