We bought a baby grow and a teddy as soon as we found out, as DP put it "even if the worst happens we would having something to remember the baby by" he meant that in a nice way but it does sound a bit Shock

After the 12 week scan that was it, mothercare didn't know what had hit it :)

Congratulations!

bluehearted · 19/06/2014 21:08

It is very cute Smile

I'm 29 weeks with dc2 and have got some things but I've still got so much to get sorted out.

People say don't buy anything before you've had your 12 week scan... "Temping fate". I don't personally believe that, buying a baby grow before 12 weeks isn't going to lead to a miscarriage. But for me personally, it was more that I wouldn't want to have a reminder, if I did go on to miscarry if that makes sense?

With dc1 I started getting bits together after 20 week scan when I knew the gender.

Good luck with your pregnancy Grin

LJHH · 19/06/2014 21:08

(And that outfit is so bloody cuteSmile)

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/06/2014 21:12

That is so cute but how much please? For one sleepsuit!?!

I waited til 12 weeks to buy ny first item with both pgs and the on my first pregnancy I waited til after the 20wkscan to buy the big ticket items. This pregnancy im only 21 wks but am pretty much sorted!

Just got myhospital bag to do.

woodwaj · 19/06/2014 21:14

Thanks both, I also agree that buying a baby grow wont cause miscarriage but then at the same time I cant quite do it yet! I might wait till the morning sickness kicks In and then get it to feel better!!

I do have a teddy though LJ, Its a little bear that came with my cow & gate pregnancy pack!!

I will find out the sex so I suppose I wont get to buy much for a while!!

Wow that's organised hacked!! It is expensive for something that will no doubt end up poo stained, that would defo be a one off luxury, normally if it doesn't say SALE I don't look twice!!

Nothing until int the third trimester - probably about 32-34 weeks.

Memphisbelly · 19/06/2014 21:18

I also went in there when I found out, I am going to get the one with rainbows on it and the pirate duck ones. I am 10 weeks next week and had an early scan last week so will buy them next week.

With ds I had bought everything including a quite expensive pushchair by 10 weeks, looking back I am shocked I bought it all but it was the January sales so got some bargains.

jaffajiffy · 19/06/2014 21:21

No it doesn't cause miscarriage but having to hide that stuff when you have miscarriages is a bugger too. Three miscarriages in I refused to think about anything until about 28 weeks. Apart from maternity wear which I bought at 12 weeks because I was bloody huge

I'll take my killjoy self off now.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/06/2014 21:24

About 32 weeks Smile

woodwaj · 19/06/2014 21:27

No its good I wanted a dose of reality. I have PCOS and it comes with its risks so I need to behave!!

When you shop for maternity clothes do you buy whatever size you are pre getting big?

OP posts:
jaffajiffy · 19/06/2014 21:28

Yes. I was more likely to be a size down too!

jaffajiffy · 19/06/2014 21:29

Congrats on your pg SmileSmile

eurochick · 19/06/2014 21:31

Not until about 27 weeks (disbelief it was finally happening after years of infertility and a previous IVF mc). And then the 28 week scan indicated they might need to get the baby out soon, so we panic bought everything in the next 2 weeks and now have a house full of boxes! I just need to find the energy to unpack everything.

eurochick · 19/06/2014 21:34

Re: mat clothes, generally yes, but it depends on the brand - sizing varies a lot.

LJHH · 19/06/2014 21:42

@Woodwaj
I have the cow too, with the aptamil one you get a polar bear :)
Love a freebie!

Re maternity clothes, I don't pay any attention to sizes, I would say just try stuff in, for instance I have 2 pairs of jeans and some denim shorts from new look. One of the jeans is a 10, one is a 12 and the shorts are 14!
Pre pregnancy I was a 12 in jeans so I was well happy with the size 10's not so much the 14 shorts :)

woodwaj · 19/06/2014 21:55

Thanks for all the info!! I was going to chance some online shopping for myself but defo sounds like its best to go to the shops!

I am waiting on my aptamil polar bear! Haha

How far gone are you now Euro?

Nothing until after the 20 week anomaly scan. I had to know everything was ok first.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 19/06/2014 22:07

After 20 weeks for little things - bought few packs of nappies and clothes etc. in the supermarket baby events and 30 weeks onwards for bigger things like crib, pram, car seat etc.
I've just bought things when I've seen them on a deal or had the money really.
37 weeks now and just about sorted, only things we still need are sling/carrier and car seat base but not worrying about them too much as we won't need them straight away and can get once the baby arrives if need be.

Gennz · 19/06/2014 22:15

I bought some expensive maternity jeans at 6 weeks because I was in Sydney for work and had tacked on a weekend for a shopping spree - then found out I was pregnant and it was the only item I could justify!

Bought coat (2nd hand) at 12 weeks. Bought a chnaging table & changing mat on sale yesterday. Currently nearly 17 weeks and will buy the buggy soon, as it takes up to 8 weeks to arrive on order - a family member is kinfly helping us out with that purchase though.

Haven't really bought any baby clothes as my sister has given me piles of stuff. Finding out what we're having in 2 weeks so might buy a few cute things then - it will finally start to feel real!

hartmel · 19/06/2014 22:15

With DS I had a scan at 6 weeks. And bought a sleep sack that week and at 8 weeks we bought a high chair (it was the one I always wanted and it was on sale an the last in stock) then at 12 weeks we bought the crib. As it also was on sale. And from then on I didn't stop buying at the car seat by 14 weeks and stroller by 25 weeks.. I was happy later that I purchased everything early. First because we were in the middle of moving and second I had a lot of gall bladder attacks from week 27 that I was in no mood to go shopping for the bigger things..

Now pregnant with dc2 and the first thing I bought was a swaddle me at 17 weeks and then nothing till after 20 week scan. As we are expecting a girl this time I have to go and buy everything. If it would have been a boy I wouldn't buy anything.

Gennz · 19/06/2014 22:16

P.S. woodwaj that sleep suit is sooo cute!! Would it be good for an early summer newborn, can any one tell me? (first baby, am clueless)

Gennz · 19/06/2014 22:17

*Bought COT second hand I mean!
