I haven't started yet at 28 weeks.

Having had recurrent losses, I couldn't bring myself to until 3rd trimester. If consultant appt tomorrow goes well... Hitting the shops at the weekend!

neversleepagain · 19/06/2014 22:34

I bought a lovely hat at 6 weeks then nothing until about 18 weeks. I had everything from 28 weeks. I had twins though so a lot to think about and buy.

Heatherbell1978 · 19/06/2014 22:37

I waited until after the 20 wk scan. I know it's tempting before that but you're a long time pregnant! I'm 32 wks now and still have a lot of stuff to get.

2blessed · 19/06/2014 22:38

After 20 week scan.

woodwaj · 19/06/2014 22:41

Its mad how different people go about it. I like the little and often approach which I think I will do from 12 weeks all being well! I think the sleep suit is ok for anytime. Im presuming you can add additional layers/ sleeping bag if needed

Your right buggerluggs it is expensive. Maybe we should turn this into a best bargains thread! Deals not to be missed!

I am very tight with money but there is something nice about getting a slightly nicer outfit as the 'first thing' you buy, instead of something practical like socks or muslins. Ours is an IVF baby and I was pretty wary of getting stuff, I bought a very hungry caterpillar outfit when I was about 8 weeks- it was one of my favourite books and I would've been sad if it'd disappeared by the time I felt more ready to buy. Of course I then realised how much very hungry caterpillar stuff is actually out there and felt a bit silly, but ahh well! Seeing this tiny little outfit did have a funny effect on DH who got very soppy :-)
Started buying more after 12 weeks but only if I see something I really like or a good bargain (aldi travel cot...). Don't think we'll buy anything big ticket for a while yet.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 20/06/2014 05:45

I waited till 20 week for my first. Now I'm at 27 weeks and haven't even sorted out the room for my second. I will start my maternity at 34 weeks and it might be too late by then as DD came at 37 weeks.

ohthegoats · 20/06/2014 06:22

25+5, bought an ebay buggy bargain last week. That's it.

Not going to shop until 30+ weeks. No room in house to store it all.

KitKat1985 · 20/06/2014 08:40

We bought a few minor bits after the 12-week scan (just a few baby gros we found on special offer), but in the main have waited until after the 20 week scan so we were fairly confident by this point that baby is healthy and well (and we now know the gender). Since then though it's been shopping central! x

PresidentSpreadable · 20/06/2014 10:49

I allowed myself to buy a tiny Polarn o Pyret hat after my scan at 13 weeks, but still can't let myself get too excited at 15+4 due to previous mcs.

I know what I want though pushchair wise etc, so once I get past 24 weeks I'm going to spend like mad.

eBay is great for bargains.

SandwichBag · 20/06/2014 10:52

I waited until my 20 week scan then went mad lol! My DD to be has clothes until she is 6 months (and some 6-9 months) - I think she may even have enough NB and 0-3 Babygrows to wear a new one every day as i've been given loads by my brother and SIL as well.

Only things left to get are practical things like nappies, baby bath stuff, blankets, muslins, stuff for my hospital bag... it's just more fun buying the clothes :) But i'm only 29 weeks so have lots of time yet.

Havent even started on the nursery - we have all the furniture but need to take everything currently out of the room and re-decorate... hopefully we are starting this weekend. Then i'll buy the curtains and soft furnishings for that.

Can you tell I LOVE shopping for baby stuff.... have fun!!!

ClaireF2013 · 20/06/2014 10:58

I got my faint BFP this morning (well, 6 of them, on different types of tests!). LMP was 18/05, so I am about 4.5 weeks. Desperate to get buying things, but the thought of buying something and then miscarrying breaks my heart :( it is hard to know what to do! My first pregnancy, so nothing to compare it to etc-no previous miscarriages to put me off buying so soon...

My husband has been wanting to buy stuff since we started trying (this was our first cycle), but I didn't want to in case I couldn't get pregnant!

Mummymidwife87 · 20/06/2014 11:11

We bought things after Christmas which was about 15/40. Just bits in the sale. Larger items I was looking early but kept googling for the best deals.. We got the pram/car seat/base when I was about 29/40

Marnierose · 20/06/2014 11:57

I would wait until your first scan at least. Having already experienced packing up baby things post miscarriage I can confirm it's really horrible. 40 weeks is a really long time and you do need very few things in reality.

I'm 18 weeks and have just started buying a few small second hand bits, plus some wallpaper for our spare room (will have to start calling it a nursery at some point I suppose!)
We've got the in laws coming the weekend before the 20 week scan, and they have a big estate car, and have offered to take us to Ikea to buy baby bits like the cot etc.

I feel a bit superstitious about buying furniture before the scan though...

BeckaH123 · 20/06/2014 12:20

Congratulations OP!

I am 15 weeks at the moment. I have bought nothing for the baby yet, but I have bought a few bits of maternity wear. In fact, maternity trousers are a revelation and I don't think I'll ever buy non-maternity trousers ever again Grin. They are so much more comfortable. Why aren't all trousers made with a waist band?

BeckaH123 · 20/06/2014 12:21

Sorry I mean a soft waistband - I know trousers do generally have waist bands.

Eastwiththem · 20/06/2014 16:01

27 weeks and have bought nothing except some maternity clothes. Even then I only bought a bump band at 12 weeks and didn't get jeans etc until about 16 weeks (started wearing mat clothes at 19 weeks).

I have knitted a pair of booties, a tiny cardigan (think it might be too tiny looking at some of the stuff in the shops) and am 90% through a cot blanket. Going to make a hat next I think.

We've pretty much decided on pram/cot/car seat so just need to actually go and buy it.

I'm not superstitious at all but didn't want to buy a load of stuff then have to deal with it after a m/c. Having to delete all the info from my pregnancy app after the first loss was bad enough, luckily second time was so early that I'd barely got my head around being pregnant again.

woodwaj · 20/06/2014 17:21

I like the idea of waiting till after xmas but at the same time I am due early feb and I want to enjoy some shopping before I have to waddle

SO relieved to be reading this! My sil has tried to tell me I need to have EVERYTHING ready by 34 weeks in case the baby's early... I don't have the heart to point out to her that we're in the middle of a massive renovation (I'm 23 weeks) and don't actually have heating, wiring or windows never mind a beautifully decorated nursery... I think she'd have kittens.

Saying that, I have picked up a few bits and bobs when I've found a bargain, especially in the beginning it made the pregnancy feel a bit more 'real' (as much as such a surreal thing can be!).

ImBrian · 20/06/2014 21:25

I'm 17 weeks and I've picked up a few vests and a jumper in the sale at ASDA but that's it. I worked out I have 6 more paydays to go till baby arrives so I'll be spreading out the bigger stuff from now on. I think if I hadn't had a private scan and found out sex I would have waited till after 20 weeks scan.

woodwaj · 20/06/2014 22:01

I will probably end up just saving money and splurging after 20 weeks when I know the sex.

I did just make a purchase for myself though! I bought Michelle Heatons Active Pregnancy DVD!

Am 31+5, started getting births in from 13 weeks. Was looking at what I have clothing wise think might need to get some more as don't feel as if I have enough babyvests/sleepsuits

OhTheDrama · 21/06/2014 12:48

I'm 5+4 with DC3, miscarried last month at 12 weeks then fell pregnant again straight away. I am itching to start buying but feel I will jinx things. I need all the big things this time around, pram, car seat and a crib. Think if I get that far I will wait until the January sales as I'm due mid February and hopefully we will save some money. Things like maternity pads, nappies, wipes, toiletries, a few packs of vests and sleepsuits, I will add each week to the shopping from November onwards.
