Names for female genitals..

.. I've been teaching sex ed to year 6 this week. We were talking about 'correct' scientific words for various body parts, and one girl suggested 'minge' for the vagina. After I'd stopped laughing, I started thinking about words that people use to describe different parts of female genitalia.

Suggestions in the staff room:

foofoo, or foof
minge
muff
my flower

And now on here tonight there are two others - hoohaa and tuppence.

What did you call your genitals when you were a child? What do you call them now? Do you have different words for different bits? What do you suggest your children call them?

I called mine my front bottom when I was a child! It's fanny now, but we generally joke when we need to refer to it!

MrsMonkeyBear · 11/06/2014 20:35

When I was much younger it was either

Bits n pieces
Lady parts
Wee wee

Now at 29 I has various names,

Minge (as mentioned)
Vag
Pussy (ok more in my teenage years)
Fanjango
Fanny
Love tunnel (more just between me and DH)

I think I'd want my dd to call it her "no go zone." I'm only just half way through my pregnacy and I swear she is never having a boyfriend

Ha ha what a brilliant discussion to take ones mind of pregnancy problems!

Fadge - started using that in high school and have stuck to it ha ha
Fanny - very common not my fave lol

That's all I can think of apart from what you've already said Smile

FarToGo · 11/06/2014 20:48

As a child, it was acceptable to call it a Mary..... Apologies to any Mary's out thereShock
I will have this problem one day with my daughter, i say 'bits and bobs' at the mo but she is only 11 months old!
I call my own a number of things, mainly foof.
Vagina is such a rubbish ugly word for it!

nc060 · 11/06/2014 21:13

hoohah for meSmile

juneybean · 11/06/2014 21:14

It was a fairy when I was little. Now I refer to it as a foof thanks to my friends little girl.

gunwalloe · 11/06/2014 21:31

my youngest says "girls bits"

justhayley · 11/06/2014 22:19

When I was younger it was always my privates / private parts or simply down there! Teenage years it went to flower - bit random, and now I think Minnie. My 2 year old asked me about my willie the other day and without thinking about a name I explained that mummy doesn't have a willie ladies have a Minnie - think that's the only real convo iv had about it really.

Boogles91 · 11/06/2014 23:36

Flange...i always refere to mine as that lol

Boogles91 · 11/06/2014 23:38

Oh and "the pink run"...thats what me nd hubby say to eachother lol

GoldenDaffodil · 12/06/2014 08:12

Great thread, I've been wondering what to tell my 2 year old DD it's called.when I was growing up it was a 'minnie' or a 'mary'. I know vagina sounds very clinical but I feel like I should be honest with her.

princessdave · 12/06/2014 08:46

My toddler calls it her front bum - she bashed it on a firemans pole at the park last week and pulled her jeans and knickers down in the middle of the park and said kiss it better mummy Hmm

It's quite bruised but the only things I'm kissing better are knees, arms etc!

I tend to call it her minnie.

Pregnantagain7 · 12/06/2014 09:11

I call in my min short for minnie. My daughters call it their ninny not sure where it came from I think my eldest couldn't say Minnie so it came out ninny and has stuck!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 12/06/2014 09:16

It was a vagina now it's vulva/vagina since I realise the vagina is a specific part of the whole (pun intended).

I cringe to hear cutesie names for a body part.

Scoobsmam13 · 12/06/2014 14:24

Me and DD (6) call it lady bits.

Mintberrycrunch · 12/06/2014 20:43

I remember when I was a teen working a saturday job that one of the ladies used flower, i thought it was odd. In italy some use "fafalline" which means butterfly when talking with children, I use the english word butterfly with my 4 year old.

Had to correct my Italian husband when we had been talking about daughter hurting her privates, as he refered to it as pussy, had to explain in english that is vulgar.

Mintberrycrunch · 12/06/2014 20:44

farfallina its spelt, my italian is crap.

LoblollyBoy · 12/06/2014 20:50

I must have gone through childhood without as much as an itch, I had no word at all for it. God knows what I'd say now if I needs to mention it to anyone other that DH.

Mango92 · 12/06/2014 20:55

Foof
Bits
Bajingo
HooHah
Flower
Miffy.

Haha. There are quite a few.

AuditAngel · 19/06/2014 00:12

My daughters call it their "Pompey". This is not in praise of the Portsmouth football team, but a bastardisation of an Italian dialect word my MIL used with her sons for their bottoms. DS called his bottom his Pompey, but the girls (well DD1 initially) decided that was the word for their vulva.

When I was a child it was front bottom or vulva (mum was a nurse)

Cardinal · 19/06/2014 02:05

I dumped a guy in my teens when he called my vagina my 'sluthole'. HmmConfused

sykadelic · 19/06/2014 03:02

Piddy. Not sure why and only remembered when I asked mum.

Normally I just say "my bits".

amy83firsttimer · 19/06/2014 07:22

I remember mum calling it my "quim " anyone else remember that?
