I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Kali Oh no, that is awful for you. You'd think the fluids would bring them down. Really feel for you enduring this. I hope this isn't an infuriating suggestion - but did they ever recommend steroids the other time?
Gentle cyber pats always on offer...

kalidasa really feeling for you... hang in there, you know it WILL end and that it will be worth it. punk got steroids and things; can you get those too? (sorry, just noticed Lucinda mentioned that too). I didn't think I could get through the worst of this - especially with my phobia of being sick and severe anxiety disorder - but I'm slowly reaching the end and you will too Thanks Thanks Goodness knows it's not easy but we are all here for you and thinking of you.

George rainbow yarn sounds lovely :-) For patterns, inspiration and help check out www.ravelry.com - they have a great forum! Plus youtube.com is wonderful for learning knitting/crochet techniques.

kali I really hope your ketones will come down soon & you start feeling better. Everything crossed for you

LucindaE · 14/06/2014 09:24

Kalidasa I hope that IV is at last having an effect. Thinking of you.
Tak How are things?
George Have you found any sweets you can stand to get rid of disgusting taste? I swore by barley sugar, but these days, has to be got online normally, I think.
Lottie You have been great about handling it with your horror of puking. Have you found that with dismal repetition, this fear has diminished a lot? I know I had an illogical terror of people with leprosy/getting it myself, dating from when I was a kid. After I met a man from Africa currently suffering, and sat down to have a cup of tea with him, it just went like that.
Weather muggy here. Not nice for current sufferers.

So far managed 2 on Wed, 1 on Thursday, 2 on Friday and 1 again today. Think tomorrow may end up being 3 doses as I'm doing set up and take down (7am -10pm) at a festival tomorrow! Get to enjoy the festival in between. Feeling more positive but must remember if only taking one side to take the morning one....Feeling very lucky that it's fading.

Hope everyone is having a nice ish weekend xxx

Oklahoma · 15/06/2014 09:51

I really really hate the taste of bile. Hope everyone else is doing better.

Sass yay for improving.

Fraggle31 · 15/06/2014 09:52

Morning ladies

Sorry not to have posted for a few days. Scrolling on my ipad has been making me feel abit pants!

kali sorry to hear the fluids didn't work as expected, are you feeling any brighter now?

sasseh well done in your weaning! I am very jealous!!

AFM -'after my missed doses of metaclopramide last week I've now restarted three times a day, so back to 6x a day anti-emetics, as felt so grim on Friday and Saturday. My nausea seems to be ramping up a gear for some reason, and I was doing well on the not being sick and hit a record of 4 days, which came crashing down this morning at 5am.....but am grateful for the 4 days respite. Scan on Friday this week and it really can't come quick enough

Hugs and gentle pats to those who need them. Hope everyone is ok xx

Fraggle31 · 15/06/2014 09:53

No good news here, ketones still at 4, still vomiting despite max doses of everything. Still can't eat or drink and IV keeps failing - have had it re-sited four times now. Waiting to see docs tomorrow, hopefully with a new plan, maybe steroids.

Fraggle31 · 15/06/2014 18:19

Oh kali sorry to hear your update :(

I have a question/need some words of wisdom/advice from those of you who use public transport to get to/from work. How did/do you all manage your journeys? Is it enough to stop you from going to work at all?

My current sick certificate is due to run out tomorrow and i have a doctors appt to ask for a further extension (he'll only give me a week at a time at the moment) and as bus/tube/bus (or bus/train/walk depending on route) with a journey time of 60-90mins depending on traffic. I went to DHs parents for Father's Day today and the 30 min journey left me heaving and about to jump off the bus to vomit if we hadn't arrived at the stop at just the right time. I've had to come home and lay down for an hour to recover and avoid throwing up. The thought of doing double or triple that time just seems illogical and impossible currently. I'm also due to a suprise spa day for my heavily pregnant friend who is having a bad time, next Sunday but it's at least a 90min journey each way, so I'm suspecting I will have to cancel. I have a very physical job (physiotherapist) and there isn't an option to work from home because of the sort of physio work I do (ward work).

Any experience or thoughts would be welcome!!

Fraggle31 · 15/06/2014 18:23

That sound say: (....at the moment). Currently my work journey consists of bus/tube/ bus.......

Stoopid ipad

Fraggle31 · 15/06/2014 18:24

*should

Argh!!

Oklahoma · 15/06/2014 20:22

Fraggle there is no chance I could do that journey and yes that is absolutely reason enough to not be working.

Fraggle31 · 15/06/2014 20:42

I'm also due to be godmother at my god daughters christening in 3 weekends time....... But it's in Manchester so would be a 3hr journey each way if you include getting to/from euston. I will be so upset if I can't go :(

Georgebythesea · 15/06/2014 21:06

I find public transport makes me feel very queasy so i haven't really been able to go anywhere far except taxis to doctors/hospitals and certainly not work(a half hour bus journey) though i haven't had the energy to work anyway.

Lottiedoubtie · 15/06/2014 21:07

fraggle I have a ten minute walk to work and even now, with my dramatic improvement I'm driving that distance Blush
It's all I can do to walk around the (large) school site when I'm there, the motion just does me in even now.

You absolutely cannot do that sort of journey each way to and from work. And yes, that's enough of a reason to stay off. See the doctor again and ask about a certificate lasting longer than a week so you don't have to keep forcing yourself to go out to the doctors.

Lottiedoubtie · 15/06/2014 21:08

kali I'm so sorry to hear you're still in hospital, I really hope you get a decent doctor to see you tomorrow with a new plan.

Meerka · 16/06/2014 07:33

good morning

kali thinking a lot of you and hoping the IV is taking at last and that you are managing to hold in there. I hope you're on a quiet ward...

Definitely second not trying to reduce meds until week 20. The recommendation is to start meds early to reduce the impact of the HG and stop it getting as bad as it can be. Seems likely that reducing the meds early is going to make the HG worse again and undo the good work done so far. These meds are safe in pregnancy. Damn Thalidomide and its hangover even 60 years on!

Hope people are surviving ... omg how can anyone manage a setup for a festival ! awe! congrats!

okla how long are you signed off for this time?

SassehMonsta · 16/06/2014 08:04

Hahs thanks ladies. Mainly involved moving foldy tables and helping put up sides of marquees (I took a mini step ladder as im only just 5ft!). People kept an eye on me, I took plenty of breaks and by 11am I had gone home to seemy parebts for a nap. Feeling a lot better but did have to return to 3 lots of meds as not so muh time for napping!! Those numbers were meds not vomits, not had a vomit for several days now (last Thurs?). Honestly, I couldnt have done thisc3 weeks ago!! And Im mad enough that Im supervising another festival the weekend after next as well, all for free... At least this time round I know I only have to move an odd guitar and point people ib the right direction backstage!

SassehMonsta · 16/06/2014 08:14

Kali that sounds aweful still, hope they come up with something that works or at least a plan to help!

As for the meds, Im definetly getting a repeat prescription just incase. Im findibg the stemetil is effective when I feel aweful but more pointless when Im feeling ok. And I seem to be coping better when only taking when.needed. I appreciate everyones different though! Thanks for the advice.

Oklahoma · 16/06/2014 09:18

Sass I just don't understand how you are managing. I'm not sure I could even walk around a festival. The smells, the journey, the people... You must be superwoman!

Fraggle my doctor has been signing me off 1 month at a time so I would definitely ask for longer than a week. Also, you can ring the doc to ask for it, you don't actually need to drag yourself in (or is mine just super helpful?).

Lottie thrilled you're still doing better. You joined the thread the same day as me so I am using you as hope currently!!

Kali i don't know what to say... I hope you have a quiet ward or private room and that the iv starts working soon.

Hi Meerka, hope all is good with you guys, and hi to everyone else.

Fraggle31 · 16/06/2014 10:12

Thanks ladies re:travel, I thought I'd was just being a bit of a wuss! Have cancelled my spa day (boo) and warned my friend re: christening just in case I can't make it (now feeling gutted and very guilty Sad).

Also in awe so sasseh here - I just managed the visit the in laws for Father's Day and felt like I was on deaths door (slightly dramatic over exaggeration I know lol). However, am feeling very glad that you feel able to do that thought esp when you've been feeling so rubbish. Just don't overdo it waggles finger lol

Saw gp today (after throwing up 4 times this morning - grim) who was super lovely and signed me off for another 2 weeks, but has said I don't need to see him next time if I want it extended again so that is good. He is hopeful that by 16 weeks I will see a turn around - quite frankly so am I Smile!! He said that he would be interested to see what the scan this week shows as obviously hyperemesis is more common in twin pregnancies, however our scan at 6+5 did only show one baby, but I know that's not a guarantee that there will actually only been one at a further along scan. My mum had HG when she was pregnant with me and was admitted 3 times, which he said is obviously another reason why I could be feeling so pants.

Unfortunately another 2 weeks off does mean I need to have a long term sickness management meeting with my boss which I'm not looking forward to. I have emailed her today asking if we could do it by phone as I don't feel it could manage the journey into the office, so we'll see what she says.

Hi to everyone I have missed, gentle back pats to those who need them xx

LucindaE · 16/06/2014 11:18

Kali I do hope they recommend steroids if necessary, you must feel like hell with that level of ketones for days and days despite IV. Thinking ouf you, flapping and clucking ineffectually.
Everyone Please don't be hard on yourselves. You can't be a sociable useful citizen with this!
xx
