Did when you have birth (ie overdue or before DD) correlate with your own mum?

Just curious to know if there's a genetic pattern to whether you go overdue or give birth before your due date. I'm one of 4 and my mum had all of us about a week before her DD so is convinced I'll be the same. Nature will run it's course obviously but I'm a very organised person and feel I need to prepare for an earlier birth!

I was 5 weeks early, my brother was 6 weeks early... My DC was induced at 40+12!

StrawberryTartYum · 19/05/2014 19:08

Not at all, DS was 3 weeks early and both mtself and sister were late! But I had a very very similar labour to DFs fiance, complications and everything. Strange!

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/05/2014 19:10

Mine was very similar to my mum's, I was 11 days late and DS and DD were 14 and 11 days late respectively!

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 19/05/2014 19:12

My brothers and I were late and induced. My son came naturally at 39+4, so almost exactly when due. No pattern.

HollyBen · 19/05/2014 19:18

I agree with no pattern. I was a day late, my twin bothers were a month early. DD was 11 days late

callamia · 19/05/2014 19:19

No, I was 11 days over and my mum was induced a day early with me.

MrsBungle · 19/05/2014 19:20

I was apparently 2 weeks early as was my brother. My tie were both overdue by 8 days and 4 days.

I guess, though, in the 70's it was less accurate as they has fewer scans?

ShoeWhore · 19/05/2014 19:23

Yes! (Ish)

My mum had us 3, 4, 2 and 5 weeks early.

I had my dcs 2, 1 and a bit, 3 weeks early (poss 4 weeks, dates were vague)

Chewbecca · 19/05/2014 19:27

Yes - late, no natural labour. Her mum similar too I believe and my mum broke my Nan's pelvis coming out as was too big. Writing this though I realise I don't actually know my Nan went into labour naturally or if there was some form of forced start 65ish years ago?

MyNameIsSuz · 19/05/2014 19:28

Not even slightly! We were all well overdue, I was so surprised when my boy showed up on his due date!

Minty82 · 19/05/2014 19:28

Yes, to the day! I was a week early and so was DD. My brother was four days early and so was DS. My brother is 2yrs 1mth younger than me, and DS is younger than DD by exactly the same amount. DD and I also had exactly the same birth weight.

I was lucky enough to have textbook deliveries though, whereas my mum had a grim time and every intervention going.

GardeningPerchance · 19/05/2014 19:30

No, I was a day late and my DD was 2wks late!

Chewbecca · 19/05/2014 19:32

Blimey, I just googled what might have happened to my Nan in the 40s if she hadn't gone into labour naturally and came across this article on how people commonly gave birth at that time

By the 1940s, birth normally occurred during a “Twilight Sleep” induced by the drug scopolamine. Women presented to the hospital in labor, were then separated from their husbands and placed in a ward with other laboring women, forced to stay in bed and often strapped down. Enemas were performed and the pubic area was shaved to ensure a “sterile” birth environment. When their labor pains became too great or they came close to delivering, the twilight sleep was initiated. Although this induced a decrease in awareness and consciousness, it was mostly just a way to wipe out the memory-– women still felt the pain of their labor. When ready to deliver, they were wheeled into an operating room, the perineal area scrubbed down and draped as for surgery. Often too sedated to push appropriately, an episiotomy was performed and forceps were used to extract the baby

I've never heard of this before.

TallyGrenshall · 19/05/2014 19:33

I was 3 days before EDD

DS was 8 weeks prem.

GardeningPerchance · 19/05/2014 19:33

yes my gran had that, found it very traumatic - she was strapped down and forced to have an enema. She had the next 3 at home....

Teabiscuits · 20/05/2014 00:21

It's hard to say I think as we have much more accurate dating now from the scans.

I apparently arrived at midday on my due date. For me DD1 was a day early, DD2 was 2 days early, DS was a day late, so I hit them all nearly spot on as well.

My Nan had 7 in the 50s-60s, and she says back then you were lucky if you got the right month! To be fair I suspect she must have fallen pregnant again with a few of them before she'd had a period, so would have had to guess anyway!

minipie · 20/05/2014 00:22

nope - dsis and I were late, dd was 6 weeks early.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 20/05/2014 00:29

No here as well. We were all either early or within a day or so of the DD whereas mine were all between 8 and 11 days over.

Gennz · 20/05/2014 03:02

I'm interested in this as DH and I were both 2 weeks late. Arrgghh! Really hope history doesn't repeat with me!

My mum was late with all 4 of her pregnancies, earliest was my sister at 5 days overdue, latest was me at 12 days. My sister has run about a week overdue with both of hers.

HolidayCriminal · 20/05/2014 04:24

Mom had at least 2 m/c (I never had any).
her FT pregnancies were 3 weeks early (twins) & 2 weeks late (singleton me).
My 4 pgs I went into labour between 38+6, 40+1, 40+4, 41+9.

Heatherbell1978 · 20/05/2014 07:38

Thanks for all your responses. Yes I think the point around us having more accurate scanning is a good one, my mum was also a smoker which contributes to earlier and smaller babies too....I would like to think I'll have my baby on or just before my DD but I imagine I'll spend most of August being extremely uncomfortable in the heat.....

CaptWingoBings · 20/05/2014 07:44

chewbecca that's why the NCT was set up by a group of mothers in the 50s (iirc). They were very keen on getting away from that model of childbirth.

OP no correlation here. I was born on due date, one sib a few days late & one sib 10 days late. My DC were 14 days late & one day late.

somedizzywhore1804 · 20/05/2014 07:48

Interested in this. Both my mum and aunt were late- mum 14 days and aunt 10 days- and then I was 15 days late and my sister 10 days late. I am currently 33+0 and expecting a late one....

tumbletumble · 20/05/2014 07:51

My brother was 2 weeks early and I was 1 day late. My DC were 8 days late, 7 days late and 3 days early.

HeyBungalowBill · 20/05/2014 07:59

My brother was a day late, I was 2 weeks early.

My DS was 3 days late, so similar to my brother I suppose?
