I'm 35 weeks and driving myself crazy! I'm so uncomfortable and this heat isn't helping. I'm constantly expanding, my jeans are getting too tight but it seems silly to buy anymore now.

I just want him out, he must be just about big enough by now!

Anyone else feeling the same?

Eliza hope your sweep was ok. Everton I had low down persistent backache pre birth in a way I did not have with the others and progress was swift! Maybe there is a connection?

Gemini good luck for tomorrow remember hospitals move slowly, they get very busy.

Also for those who can if you can get a private room you may find your partner is allowed to stay with you despite what the rules are. The hospital I was in did.

ElizaB3 · 17/06/2014 21:46

Sweep was fine thanks, I had some bleeding straight after but otherwise the same. I feel a bit mentally exhausted now, been so ready and motivated for so the birth for long, it's hard to keep enthusiastic! Another sweep tomorrow then talk of induction.

So with the gel you can still go in the pool? I was hoping epidural would be my last, not first resort.

Geminiwitch22 · 17/06/2014 22:01

Thanks guys, wish me luck ramseys kitchen nightmares then bed. Hopefully see you in a few days

ch1a · 17/06/2014 23:33

Lucky you Eliza getting a sweep tomorrow as well. Now thinking I should turn up at my hospital and demand some kind midwife find the time to do me another!

At my hospital as long as its just the gel and not the drip they do a 30 min trace then if all is fine birth centre or pool in hospital labour room are options. Which is great I think...just hoping I fall in this category!

But after 42 weeks its no longer an option. So I'm being induced on Thursday morning to give time to start contracting by my cut off day of Saturday!

Gemini good luck sleep well and looking forward to hearing from you at the other side.

Had some disappointing news at midwife appointment today (39 weeks). As my blood/urine tests showed iron levels are low and slightly raised white blood count I won't be able to use the MLU (Midwife Lead Unit) as planned but will have to be on the labour ward as I will have to have a managed 3rd stage and they will need to make sure I have IV access set up.
It's mainly because low iron levels increase risk of post partum bleeding and IV is to prevent blood pressure dropping.
We had lots of problems early on in pregnancy, lost a twin and hospitalised twice with haemorrhages so to have got thru that and to finally be classed as 'normal low risk' in 3rd trimester and to be able to use the MLU felt so good. I had really been looking forward to being in the calm surroundings of the MLU with minimal intervention so when they said it's no longer possible to use MLU I just burst into tears (then felt stupid)
Now that I've had time to think about it I know it's not the end of the world, had DS1 on labour ward and that turned out fine. They've reassured me I can still use the pool and have active mobile labour but I just feel like it won't be the same calm birth I was hoping for. Sad
Good news is baby was 2/5 palpable today and have been getting ever increasing twinges and tightening so I really hope she's going to arrive soon.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 18/06/2014 13:24

Just read back my last post, sorry it's so long and rambling

RoseberryTopping · 18/06/2014 13:37

Ramble away! I think anyone would be disappointed after what you've been through, you're perfectly entitled to feel a bit robbed of a low risk birth. I know it's hard but the main thing to remember is that they are actually looking after you and making sure you get the care you need. Hopefully you will have a bit of time to get feeling positive about it again before labour comes :)

Hope everyone else is ok? Looking forward to hearing some more baby news!

I'm getting my sweep on Friday, I can't wait! Just hope it works.

Ah always, I'm sorry to hear that for you & totally understand why you got upset-perfectly reasonable! I should imagine at the time of birth you won't care too much which room you're in& especially if u can make it into the pool-v relaxing environment. Be kind to yourself today & allow yourself the head space to process it all...

Quiet on here today-hopefully your all off having babiesSmile

AlwaysDancing1234 · 18/06/2014 14:59

Thank you for your kind words Roseberry & Seasalt.
I've had a bit of time to process it now and I know it's for the best. Main thing is that me & baby are well and looked after during labour and birth which I know we will be.
Hoping we will all soon be posting details of our new arrivals

TheOriginalWinkly · 18/06/2014 15:35

Still here, still pregnant. Spending ludicrous amounts of time in the bath, quite agreeable. 38+6 today so in 3 weeks max I will have my baby, one way or another!

always I'm not surprised you're disappointed, hopefully you'll still get your waterbirth but as you say the main thing is knowing you'll be looked after.

Lots of sweeps etc going on! Looks like I'll be last pregnant standing! Oddly I am a lot less fed up than 2 weeks ago.

ch1a · 18/06/2014 17:12

Always I completely relate to your feelings of disappointment at no longer being low risk. It's playing on my mind too. Great that you can still use the pool and like you said you know they are looking after you both well. I hope it can still be the calm birth you are aiming for.

I'm in tomorrow for gel induction as an outpatient. have decided to go for it. Feeling nervous.

ch1a · 18/06/2014 17:13

Thinking of Gemini and her induction...

Iwillorderthefood · 18/06/2014 18:00

Hi Always poor you. Some of the labour ward rooms are very similar to birth centre in any case. With a pool and so on.

Ch1a hope it all goes well.

Seasalt how are your nipples? Had brief respite today but all seems to be kicking off again now! Baby was weighed today she has lost 200g so 6%.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 18/06/2014 19:39

Thanks everyone for your support, now I've got my head around it I know I'll be fine on the labour ward.
Lots of sweeps going on, hopefully lots of birth announcements to follow.

On another note, if one more person today says "Your bump is huge" or "haven't you had that baby yet" I shall not be responsible for my actions. (my measurements are spot on and she's not due for another week thanks grrrrr!!)

And can everyone stop bloody ringing and texting me every 5 mins as it won't make baby come any quicker. Not my fault you stupidly booked to go on 2 weeks holiday the day after my due date (my dad) arrgghh!!

Iwillorderthefood · 18/06/2014 20:05

Raspberry hope the sweep goes well on Friday.

I also sympathise with the "not had that baby comments". I was most surprised by "haven't you popped yet? From the head of Dds' school PTA, to "haven't you dropped yet?" Then obviously "wow you are huge" " aren't you neat, all out front it must be a boy" to " when is the baby coming I have a big week at work next week?" From DH.

evertonmint · 18/06/2014 20:07

Hi everyone. Really grumpy day yesterday - had a horrendous headache which just would not shift. Spent most of it snoozing when DD was at nursery then very grateful for friend's 13yo who came to play with the DCS after school/nursery so I could just sit! Would have worried about pre-eclampsia but had midwife check the previous day where bp, urine and swelling all perfectly normal. Just one of those things - I think I get menstrual migraine and have enjoyed a pregnancy free of them but one came back with a vengeance, I guess due to late pregnancy hormone changes.

It meant that my body clearly decided I couldn't cope with giving birth, so the good vibes after my sweep on Monday (backache, on-off contraction type things) completely disappeared. I'm now well over 48 hours on from the sweep and still pregnant with no symptoms so it hasn't worked :( Now 40+6. IOL booked for next Tuesday so only 6 days to go.

Always - i remember being told I was no longer suitable for MLU with DC1 due to blood pressure issues (suspected pre-eclampsia). I was really gutted and grumpy about it. My first birth was a bit rubbish though, with complications, so was very glad to be closer to the medics in the end. And then I had a bad PPH which means they won't let me go to MLU again but DC2 was born in a very calm way, midwife only, in a lovely room on the main labour ward so I don't think I missed out. Keeping my fingers crossed DC3 goes the same way and that you have a similar experience too.

seasalt/iwill - breastfeeding helpline numbers to follow. and iwill, i will respond to your PM with drop ins this evening. Seasalt, re positioning, I only ever fed in 2 positions with mine - typical cross-body hold (most of the time) and lying down (night time or when very tired) - and managed a year with both using those so you don't need to switch if it is comfortable. You don't need to change position if it is working for you, but if you find you're getting engorged or sore nipples then trying different positions can relieve the pressure on the sore bits or help you find a position that is easier for the baby to drain the boob better.

ch1a · 18/06/2014 21:08

Bedtime soon and then up early to go to hospital by 8am for the fun and games to begin.

Crapping myself. It's all a bit real. Freaked out with the pain last time...need to stay calm, need to stay calm. Breathe......

ch1a · 18/06/2014 21:09

Lump in throat and tears in eyes. So scared.. am sure I'll be fine when it starts its too much time to think about it in advance...

DeathMetalWifey · 18/06/2014 22:09

I'm fed up of the sickness and tiredness.. I'm
Only 11 weeks!!

ElizaB3 · 18/06/2014 22:12

Don't panic ch1a, just focus on doing one step at a time. Fear will make you tense up; maybe find some hypnobirthing MP3s online/YouTube? I've found them really useful to help frame of mind. Have had contractions all day on & off, but don't feel much closer!
Hope we can both report back on water births Always
& thanks for the bf advice Everton

evertonmint · 18/06/2014 22:19

Good luck ch1a! You'll be having gorgeous newborn cuddles very soon :) Just breathe deeply and deal with each contraction as it comes - try to focus on the moment rather than what is left to come. And don't fight your body - go with it. This is what I'm trying to remind myself at the moment as I wait the interminable wait :)

Also, if you hear of a heavily pregnant woman being arrested after committing mass murder tomorrow it will likely be me. I'm bored of running the gauntlet of the school run twice a day and getting sympathetic glances or comments from people who delivered all their babies at 38+5 or something similarly, comfortably early. I told everyone I would likely go very overdue, yet they all seem more stressed out about it than me. PILs picked DS up today for me and I just know the rumours are spreading round the village - looking forward to disappointing them tomorrow when I turn up still fat and waddling :)

seasaltbaby · 19/06/2014 02:24

Oh ch1a, please don't panic-you'll be fine! Second time round you won't freak out with the pain, honestly. I found it much less scary this time, yes still painful, but I understood more what the pain meant, how my body was doing, my stage of labour etc so much better this time, so it didn't freak me out & I felt more in control. Good luckSmile

AlwaysDancing1234 · 19/06/2014 07:39

Thanks Eliza hope there will be news soon

Good luck cha1 you know what you are doing this time around, remember every contraction brings you one step closer to meeting your little one. You are so nearly there now. Thinking of you Flowers

Everton to keep yourself sane you could play pregnancy bingo e.g. Award yourself a chocolate every time you hear someone say one of the following:
"ooh look at the size of that bump"
"Haven't you had that baby yet"
"Not long now hey"
"Have you tried curry/sex/pineapple/caster oil"
Etc etc.....!!!

evertonmint · 19/06/2014 07:55

Genius idea, always! And I'm going to award myself double choc for the people who don't say anything but just look at my bump and pull a sad sympathetic face :)
