I'm 35 weeks and driving myself crazy! I'm so uncomfortable and this heat isn't helping. I'm constantly expanding, my jeans are getting too tight but it seems silly to buy anymore now.

I just want him out, he must be just about big enough by now!

Anyone else feeling the same?

gaaah posted twice with extra, thinking the first hadn't gone through sorry!

Gingerandcocoa · 27/05/2014 15:55

The day I was dreading has arrived.... I have found some stretch marks on my bump :( They must have been there for a while but I hadn't noticed because they're below the belly button (so cannot see it without a mirror).

I used so much stretch mark cream & oil :(

Iwillorderthefood · 27/05/2014 19:50

living a friend if mine said to me when I was really nervous of my first birth that the thing you have to remember is that it won't go on forever, and it will end.

My tips are to try and keep as calm as you can, and let your body do what it needs to. Fighting the sensations will slow things down and add to the discomfort.

When you get to transition and you really feel you can't do any more, you are actually really nearly there, and most women go through this stage of thinking they can't do it. Take a deep breath, and keep on going

However you give birth it will be worth it.

Glad you have got to spend some time with DH today. Agree with you about the pressure. Youchie. Period pains are a good sign.

cocoa poor you but maybe if you had not put the oil etc on it might have been worse.

We made 14 cakes in the end, and have eaten nearly all of them.

evertonmint · 27/05/2014 20:12

Completely agree with Iwill - thought the contractions were something to conquer in first labour, thought it was better to just go with them second time round. Much better experience. Also the thing about contractions is that although they have a slow build, they tail off much quicker so when it's peaked you know your rest is very soon to follow. Make the most of that rest.

Second labour I started shrieking "I can't do this any more" - saw midwife exchange a glance/smile with DH and the tiny bit of my brain that was still being rational rather than animalistic clearly said to me "this is transition, you silly bugger everton, of course you can do it. you're nearly there!"

evertonmint · 27/05/2014 20:15

In other news, I spent ages trying to blow up my gym ball with our electric pump today. Took 10 mins of absolutely nothing happening for me to realise I had it on the deflate setting. I clearly only have 3 brain cells left now.

RoseberryTopping · 27/05/2014 20:38

I agree with others, don't be scared just go with it. I fought and fought with my first labour, was not a nice experience at all (apart from when he came out straight on to my chest, that bit was magical). I'm feeling much calmer about the whole thing this time and feel like it will be much easier with me more relaxed. The only thing I'm worrying about now is whether DP will make it back in time.

Had loads of energy today and managed to get loads of things sorted. It feels so good to not be so god damn tired all day for a change, perfect timing with half term as well. I'm expecting a big crash soon though, what goes up must come down and all that!

Gutted about your stretch marks Ginger! Such a nightmare when you've been praising yourself for so long about not getting them. They do tend to come right at the very end though and no amount if cream will stop them :( you'll probably find they fade quite quickly post natally if you keep up the bio oil.

Grin everton
Blame baby brain!

seasaltbaby · 27/05/2014 21:26

Just been reading your other thread in childbirth roseberry re 2nd labours being much quicker-overall it seems they are! I'm also most worried about it all happening really quickly & not making it to hospital in time etc (we live 35/40 mins away) DH working a few hours away on Friday & would be such bad luck if baby came then as he couldn't get back quickly. Have you got a back up partner or will it be possible for him to work at home a bit?
Sorry re stretch marks ginger-I've been getting a bit forgetful about my cream/oil regime so will make sure I keep it up at this late stage!

RoseberryTopping · 27/05/2014 22:40

It's scary isn't it! I thought it was a bit of an exaggeration that they're faster, but obviously not.
Are you ok with the thought of a home birth in case you don't make it? Don't forget some others said that the journey to the hospital slowed things down so you should be ok. If you're really worried then get your DH to start watching some one born every minute repeats so he gets a general idea of what to do!

I've asked my lovely neighbour to be my back up birthing partner, although was really relying on her to have DS. Most people I'd ask will be away on holiday around my due date so limited choice of where to send him. We're quite lucky that we're 5 minutes from an ambulance depot and 10 minutes from the hospital so if things really do get desperate I won't have to travel far.
Still can't help but notice every twinge and wonder if I should be ringing him though!

Thank you both, feeling a bit more zen about things now. Although being awake at 4am is something I could do without! I have the natal hypnotherapy cds which have been a great help.

Got woken up in waves of discomfort at around 1.30 and was so excited - but then it turned out I just needed a pee Blush

everton Grin baby brain at its best!

Second labours - my friend had her second dc last month. Labour was 4 hours from start to finish, she was prepared for hours and hours but then 20 mins after getting to MLU gave birth! All very quick and easy, just gas and air.

dramajustfollowsme · 28/05/2014 08:41

Haven't had a chance to catch up but wanted your opinions on all the things I'm feeling. Last labour seems like a lifetime ago!
35wks, since last night I've been having what I can only describe as contractions. They feel different/more painful than the bh I've been having. I was doubled over and they took my breath away at their peak.
They have been about 10mins apart since about 8pm. I thought they might go away but I still felt them overnight. They are not as regular as last night but certainly still there.
I had the runs last night and feel like I could have more today.
My whole bump/undercarriage feels quite tender today, even between tightenings. It feels a bit like period pain.
The baby is still active but not as much as usual.
My dd was born early 3 years ago but there was no doubting what was going on as my waters went with a gush.
I can't make up my mind if my body is just getting prepared or if I should be worried.
I just feel a bit out of sorts. Confused

RoseberryTopping · 28/05/2014 08:52

Can you get in with your midwife today or get to your maternity assessment unit? Does sound like the beginning of labour tbh.
Give your midwife a ring and see what she says. In the mean time get yourself chilled out in the bath or something and make sure sure your DP is looking after you :)

Good luck!

OP posts:
seasaltbaby · 28/05/2014 09:19

I would definitely ring midwife for advice drama, does sound like contractions to me!
An unplanned home birth wouldn't be the ideal choice, but if they decide to come that quick then so be it. Good point about car journey slowing things down-I found that part awful last time & we lived much closer to hospital then. Just in case I've shown DH the section in my book re delivering at home/car!! I'm sure it will be fine, if only we had that crystal ball....great that you've got a good neighbour on standby but let's hope your DH will be there of course!!

SicknSpan · 28/05/2014 09:31

My waters broke first with dc1 but not dc2- labour started pretty much as you describe. So would get on to midwife pdq! Good luck:) ????

livingzuid · 28/05/2014 09:47

drama me too! Definitely call if you think something is up. The midwives would rather see you than not to check everything is ok.

I had to after my post get up and do a couple of yoga moves and do deep breathing I felt so rough. I have been on and off with real tightening of my stomach and period pains and massive pressure in my pelvis. I somehow managed to drive to hospital and back again to do blood tests this morning and wishing I'd just gone in for a check. Had such period pain type things in the car (should not have driven I know but was desperate).

Or it was HG. I felt pretty crap with sickness earlier. And 3 hours sleep. Does this never end? :(

seasalt there was a lady here on Monday who gave birth in the car on the way to hospital Shock they got stuck in traffic. Fortunately the midwife was with her, but it certainly wasn't the birth she had planned!

PurplePunkPrincess · 28/05/2014 09:49

Sounds like the start of something drama! Good luck xxx

I had a friend and her DC visit me yesterday, and we decided to take them to soft play, which involved a mile walk each way, I had a really good day but was shattered by the end! I've started on the fresh pineapple, sex and hoping he will come before the end of half term! Unlikely but hey :)

I've been told that to bring on labour I should express milk and not just nipple tweak, and that you'd have to eat about 9 fresh pineapples to get the amount of enzymes needed to induce labour. Shock

I do not want to express any milk before the baby has been born. I feel like it's meant to stay in there and expressing it now makes me feel that odd pain in my stomach like when you see someone up a dodgy high ladder or something...

Oh, the other I heard that I thought might be worth a try. Crying. Stick on a sad film or something and release the emotion! I've never cried at films or books until pregnant this time round so I might give it a go anyway!

PurplePunkPrincess · 28/05/2014 10:32

I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to make sure I have enough time to get the children sorted and get to the hospital.

DS1 no signs at all, first pain at 9pm born by 2am.
DS2 no signs, then had a false labour. Woken up at 2am with pains and born by 9am.

Heard third time is often very on and off. My childcare is half an hour away in the opposite direction to the hospital which is about 20 minutes without traffic. I can't guarantee the kids can be picked up and dp may have to drop them off before we leave. Confused I don't want to allow too much time incase it's all for nothing in the end

Ilikecakes · 28/05/2014 10:43

Well, baba stayed put for my busy Tuesday, so now I'm all ready to go! And lo and behold, a big show this morning which I didn't have in either pregnancy before, so hoping that means it'll all get moving soon. Really uncomfortable, lots of pressure and feeling just really heavy down there, again which I never had in previous pregnancies and these flipping contractions that just start and stop but go nowhere!

It's really difficult to judge when to call in the childcare isn't it purple, as this prolonged start is apparently typical for thirds, but once they get going they're usually v quick apparently! I'm v lucky in that my folks arrived on Monday eve to stay until baba arrives (we live abroad), so I'm covered now whenever it starts up…

Keep us posted drama, very exciting!!

Iwillorderthefood · 28/05/2014 11:39

Wow lots of things starting to happen for some of us, good luck to living, drama, ilike and purplepunk.

I just got back from my 38 week ante natal appt. this was my GP appointment, that is required at some point during my ante natal care. I do wish it had been a midwife appt, pretty sure it would have been more thorough. Blood in urine again, so has to be sent off to get tested. This is a recurring theme for me, since all but one of my samples has had blood in it.

Still got lots of pressure below, but no sign of anything, but am sore underneath a bit. Looking at the thread about if you enjoy pregnancy and think it's probably good to look back at, but the endless waiting in the last few weeks is tough.

Going to take the girls to the swimming pool this pm......they love it, and it is likely the last time we will go swimming just the three of us.

PurplePunkPrincess · 28/05/2014 12:11

Enjoy swimming :) I'm meant to be going to buy a car seat today now that we have the new car Smile

I'm shattered and considering a nap instead.

evertonmint · 28/05/2014 12:21

I'm another 3rd timer slightly panicked about when to call people. DCs will be ok as ILs live just a few mins away and have no big day trips planned so can be here quickly if needed. But DH works about 90 mins away by the time he's waited for trains etc - worried about calling him too early if it's going to be stop-start but don't want him to miss anything important and might have to meet him at hospital. I'm aiming for a weekend, evening or early morning so he's physically right here Grin

Previous 2 I was in hospital before for diff reasons (High BP with first, induction with 2nd) so never had to make these calls before!

dramajustfollowsme · 28/05/2014 12:49

I'm back from hospital. I'm between 2&3cm dilated and contractions were registering. Then they stopped again. I had steroids in case of early delivery after a fall a few weeks ago. The doctors were happy for me to go home and just wait and see. They checked the baby and I and we are both fine. Dd was born at. 36wks so they just said I may just have eRly babies. They are happy to just go with the flow. I could be having this baby quickly or a stop start like last time.
I've never heard of third labours being stop/start . This is my third labour too, hmm...
Still having contractions but not regular at all now. I have an antenatal class this afternoon about labour! I don't really want to give a live demonstration!Grin
I just don't quite feel myself. My birthday is on the 29th of a month both DCs birthdays are the 29th of a month...what is the date tomorrow? Blush
The childcare, rush hour thing is a bit of a worry but since you can never be sure when things will kick off, I'm trying not to worry about it.
My contingency is a neighbour babysitting here until pils or my Dsis get here if it is a busy time on the road. If it is middle of night pils are just going to come here. If it is a quieter time during the day, we will drop off then go to hospital.
Hope everyone is making good progress. Smile

Iwillorderthefood · 28/05/2014 18:18

Well that was a fun afternoon. DD2 has just started to be able to swim, so she spent a lot of her time swimming as far up to the deep end as possible, and suddenly launching herself into the middle of the pool. Normally I am able to deal with this and can keep both our heads up out of the water, whilst out of our depth. It felt lots more difficult than usual too. DD1 spent her time swimming up to the deep end, and also trying to get DD2 to swim to her so she could keep her up.

Being in the pool was lovely, felt weightless and fairly normal. Was back to being like a walrus when I got out.

drama hopefully you will not be the live demo. Good luck with it all, I wait with interest how you find third labour.

NeedaDiscoNap · 28/05/2014 18:21

Hope all goes well drama. Good that you have a few contingency plans up your sleeve!

I've been to the hospital today and am being induced on Monday - eeek! Will be 37+4. I knew it was a possibility but it's still a bit of a shock. Am terrified and excited in equal measure!

Darksideofthemoon88 · 28/05/2014 18:29

Wow, lucky you Needadisconap! Wish it was me Sad Why are you being induced so early if you don't mind me asking?

I know what you mean, Iwillorder - I was swimming happily and feeling weightless and fit etc the other day, and then I got outa the pool and the back pain raced back and I felt the size of a baby elephant Sad. Depressing, eh?
