Do people always get morning sickness with girls?

I'm about 8 weeks and have been feeling very sick. The small handful of people I have told keep telling me that it's a girl if I feel sick. And actually, if I think about it, all my friends that have girls were sick in the first 12 weeks.

Or have any of you had girls and not been sick? Or boys and been sick?

I don't mind what I have BTW. Still at the stage of just hoping I make it to 12 weeks!!

2 boys and sick with both.

People get morning sickness with babies. Of either sex.

MrsCakesPremonition · 25/04/2014 17:00

DD - no sickness
DS - no sickness

Weegiemum · 25/04/2014 17:04

I'd ghastly morning sickness (actually whole-bloody-day-and-night-sickness!) with dd1, not a hint with ds, and with dd2 I was so busy having really ghastly kidney stones every flipping day that I didn't notice (though as I had a mirena I was 12-13 weeks before I realised I was pg!)

Was more interested that I was told my baby would be a boy, and hairy, because I had unrelenting indigestion! (I was on 2L of Gaviscon a week by the time dd1 was born, slugging it from the bottle! But I was on 40mg morphine a day with dd2, so the Gaviscon didn't seem that bad!!)

CantEvenKeepAnOrchidAlive · 25/04/2014 17:06

No! Terrible morning sickness until about 15 weeks and I had a boy. I really don't think it means a particular sex at all.

HalfPintPickle · 25/04/2014 17:22

Not necessarily, depends on the person I guess. Both pregnancies I've has no sickness at all. One DD and due another in August :)

redexpat · 25/04/2014 20:56

My danish pregnancy book says that there is some truth that more nausea=girl, but obviously it varies from person to pewrson and pregnancy to pregnancy.

Sick as can be with both dd and ds....

DorothyGherkins · 25/04/2014 20:59

Both were girls, not a puke not once!

Neeko · 25/04/2014 21:00

I have 2 girls and was never sick.

BakingBunty · 25/04/2014 21:02

I may have imagined this (!) but I think I read that hormone levels are 20% higher if you're expecting a girl?

PenguinsLoveFishFingers · 25/04/2014 21:07

Two girls. Never been sick.

It is the random sex guessing rubbish people come out with. A man in the bank confidently told me I am currently carrying a boy based on the shape of my bump.

NotMrsTumble · 25/04/2014 21:08

nauseous but never sick, (but I hardly ever am) was worse with dc2&3, both boys, but I swear the more rested I was the less sick I felt.

The travel sickness acu-pressure bands helped too.

I really think it is more your body's way of telling you to slow down and rest and absolutely nothing to do with baby's gender.

NotMrsTumble · 25/04/2014 21:11

that said, with dd(dc1), the smell of alcohol made me want to heave, with ds 1&2 I found I no longer liked my sauv blanc, but the odd glass of pinot noir went down very nicely thank you. That alone made me think dc3 was a boy.

TheNumberfaker · 25/04/2014 21:15

I have two girls amd was never sick. I gagged sometimes with DD1 when I brushed my teeth or put something (like gloves/purse) in my mouth but was never sick. With DD2 I felt a bit queasy occasionally but never enough to be sick.

squizita · 25/04/2014 22:01

My mum carried girl twins and was never sick.

I had quite bad sickness and have just been told I'm carrying a girl.

So much for family traits! Sigh.

EugenesAxe · 25/04/2014 22:22

I had sickness with both DS and DD; the sickness that comes back when your placenta is about to take over was worse with DD. It was closer to being uncontrollable, unlike the early nausea, which was similar. My heartburn was significantly worse with DS though; dunno if that's a 'thing'.

My friend had four girls and had no sickness with any of them.

RedHatNoDrawers · 25/04/2014 22:25

Ds1 moderate dickens till about 10 weeks. Ds2, lower level sickness till 20 weeks.

There are a million old wives takes to predict the gender, they are all bollocks.

RedHatNoDrawers · 25/04/2014 22:25

Ha ha moderate sickness!! I don't even like dickens Wink

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/04/2014 22:26

One of each
No sickness either time

starlight1234 · 25/04/2014 22:28

DS sick all the way through ended up on drip.

CannulaNellie · 25/04/2014 22:29

My pregnancies were all exactly the same - slightly nauseous but not sick.

2 boys and a girl

LackaDAISYcal · 25/04/2014 22:30

DS1...no morning sickness to speak of, just a bit of queasiness until I'd had breakfast and an aversion to fish and coffee
DD...sick as a dog until around week 25; couldn't bear to be around meat, coffee, fish, or animals.
DS2...typical morning sickness until around 13 weeks then queasy till I'd had breakfast throughout or if I came into contact with anything fishy.

Nahmate · 25/04/2014 22:31

Ds1- very very sick
ds2 - no sickness
dd - sickness but not as bad ds1
ds3 - awful awful awful!

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)
