I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

More bad news here I'm afraid Nayz I'm on my second HG pregnancy. I've had it a lot milder than some of the others on here in terms of actual vomiting, but all the other symptoms have been horrible I.e. the severe nausea, hypersensitivity to smells, excess saliva, tiredness, etc etc.

begs petit to specialise in HG honestly fancy asking 'who told you it was hyperemesis' some people are such arses.

Feeling a bit sick & tired here today not looking forward to slogging into London tomorrow for my scan, oh well will be worth it to see the wriggler on screen again.

Meerka · 18/03/2014 19:22

helloo nayz, grats on making it this far =)

The very experienced doctor at the www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/ told me that once HG happens once, it's 80% likely to recur.

On top of that, if you're prone to it you may not get the full blown version the second time but I bet that you might well get rather sick, even if you don't loose weight.

There are a few things you can do to help yourself if you're gearing up for a second preg, such as getting fit and in good condition and really importantly, making sure you have a HG-friendly doctor who will prescribe very early. The specialists in HG now reckon that early meds are really important in cushioning it. Also, preparing childcare for your first baby if you're going through another HG preg. No way on earth could some of us have managed to look after their first child; others have (somehow!) managed to struggle through.

A couple of people here are planning on trying for another despite high chance of HG, kalidasa is one. maybe she has some tips too =)

LucindaE · 18/03/2014 20:20

Nayz Welcome, Excellent comments from Meerka and Everyone.
I have known a few people to suffer less on a subsequent pregnancy
on this thread Nannyl Suffered badly, but it went off at week twelve - Glossyflower I think, and MaryLou242 much more controllable, and went off earlier, so you might be one of the lucky ones! I'm glad you're feeling better, it's a shame you weren't with us when suffering.
Petitlapin I think they should at least make you an emergency GP appointment. You're being too stoic, I think. I've heard how the training for specialists lasts forever, but I so agree with SliceofLime that it would be wonderful if you did become a Hyperemesis specialist...Daft comment from that person at the hospital about 'who told you it was hyperemesis'. If that's how a medic gets treated, no wonder people on here are so often treated dismissively.
Chafifnich That is hilarious. Great you gave a lecture.
Livingzuid I meant to say - so sorry to have missed your comment, and you will get there, and post about how it was all worth it to the then currrent sufferers.
Tallyra I'm relieved to her that, good.
Waves to Booboosto Mrsb87 Somedizzy and Everyone.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

actually in fairness from the HG point of view it's been better this 2nd preg than the first. It really has. Only about 8 weeks of the full blown pure misery of HG wherease the 1st preg was 14 weeks of the intense version, then it took forever to ease off a bit. Mind you, both pregs have been unenjoyable.

I thnk getting meds the 2nd preg helped a lot, once I managed to get my increasingly-skinny claws on them

ChaffinchOfDoom · 18/03/2014 20:48

I put on shitloads of weight bf after HG with ds1 though Grin the 'joy of eating' after 9 months of food vileness
will be more careful this time. I ended up with a fat round head and neck - memorialized in my sisters' wedding pics as a hefty bridesmaid

SliceOfLime · 18/03/2014 22:04

Chaffinch I put on weight when I was bf too Blush everyone else I knew who did it was getting skinnier by the day but I was enjoying normal food again..! In fact it was only this bout of hg that got me back to my pre-preg weight... Double Blush

Booboostoo · 19/03/2014 06:16

Week 14 for me now and I think (dare I say it?!!!) I may be feeling a bit better over all. I still have worse days and better days but the bad days are not quite as bad as they used to be. Last night I managed to eat 1/3 of a sausage - yay!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 09:01

anxiety attack last night Sad
feel like I can't breathe - was hormonal about a family thing, no real reason just hormone overload... then lost my breath as lung capacity minimised from this baby
also randomly threw up my dinner - not done that for weeks
have poo'd about 3 times this morn - the terror is hitting me Sad

mrsb87 · 19/03/2014 09:20

Oh no chaffinch, hormones are awful things aren't they? I hope you haven't got much on today so you can try and rest up a bit.

Im really pleased as I'm going back to work next Tuesday! Starting off with a few 4hr afternoon shifts to get me started for a couple of weeks and see how I go. Can't wait to go back!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 09:23

I'm also worried this means hormones changing for the start of labour and Im going to need a EMCS

waaaaa!! actually every day that passes leaves me more terrorized goddammit

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 09:23

mum will be here in a min with a good dose of her northern common sense
thank god

Meerka · 19/03/2014 09:26

Sounds a horrible night finch Hope your mum is there soon Flowers

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 09:42

thanks guys. how are you all today?
had morning bile run due to empty tummy too. thanks HG.

Meerka · 19/03/2014 10:15

worn out .... really did have to lay a new tongue and groove flooring in the big bedroom, been doing 2 hours a day or so, and it's done. Just the skirting boards to go. It's heavy work though, much as I enjoy it and it's fabulous to actually get something done at last. Did check with the gyne that it wasn't too bad an idea, and she reassured me once she'd stopped gently laughing.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 10:18

well done Meerkat ! I don't have skillz to do that! is is a mid/chocolatey/light colour?

Meerka · 19/03/2014 11:47

light oak. we like light coloured wood, it makes the room seem lighter. Dark wood can be nice and striking, but yeah, we've gone for light :)

hard work but fun. so much more enjoyable than the ironing :D I'll have to take it easy a day or two though, might have overdone it. Desperate to get the room finished before Willem is born though!

hope your day is improving :)

SliceOfLime · 19/03/2014 12:46

Oh god Chaffinch that sounds grim. Hope it isn't labour - good thing your mum is coming to help. Hope you feel better.

On train to London for scan but not a good start to the day, slept badly do feeling pukey, then ate a bagel before leaving (usually a nice safe food ) but it tasted a bit odd... It was mouldy. Then got into taxi to station and it smelled so strongly of 'man' from the driver that I retched and had to have the window open. Things can only get better...!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 13:25

deep breaths slice hope it's going OK!

better now cheers, calmer. Have weirdly lost my appetite though. Might have a nap now.

LucindaE · 19/03/2014 13:30

Oh dear, Chaffinch and SliceofLime! Gentle pats on offer. I hope Chafffinch's mother is there soon and SliceofLime has an exciting scan.
Petitelapin How are things?
Meerka You are laying floors - you must manage that belly really well!

Now two people have sat next to me to tuck into "spicy Mexican" wraps...! < scarf over face> boak...

livingzuid · 19/03/2014 13:58

Gaah hid the thread by accident.

chaffinch that sounds awful. But look on the positive, if it is hormones changing one way or another this will be over very soon :) you can have your body back. I know so about the breathing I woke up gasping for air again last night feeling so anxious.

slice how did scan go? Such a downside of public transport.

meerka wow impressed! Is the house nearly done now?

LucindaE · 19/03/2014 14:09

SliceofLIme I think it's so inconsiderate when people eat stinky food on public transport poor you, that's awful! Mean visions come into my head, of how it would serve them right if you said, 'The smell of that always makes me sick ' and leaned right over their highly spiced wraps in a prepatory sort of way...

I got an emergency gp slot and am now admitted for fluids. Ketones only 2+ though, don't know how that happened!

livingzuid · 19/03/2014 16:32

petit Thanks and hope you make it home feeling better soon

Oklahoma · 19/03/2014 16:49

Please may I join your thread ladies? It is such a relief to know I am not the only one!!

I'm due 28 Oct and am living in HG hell. It's only been a few weeks and I'm already a total wreck. How on earth have you all managed to make it this far?

Saw the doc yesterday (DH dragged me in) who has given me drugs and told me not to even think about working and that I really need to get some fluids in me so I don't end up on a drip.

Anyone else feel really down and like they just can't cope?
