I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

tally congratulations! So pleased for you :)

sasseh it's never to early for sickness to begin. I knew something was up around 4 weeks when I all of a sudden couldn't cope with the sight of carrots. Keep an eye on how it progresses and just eat what you can. I lived on McDonald's for ages. Super processed food was all I could tolerate, much to my dismay and it's come back again in my 3rd trimester. I drank so much diet coke it was the only liquid I could keep down sometimes.

If I never see another quarter pounder again after this pregnancy is over I will be a happy girl.

Rember if you want medication it is available and safe to use in pregnancy. I have terrible nausea and it's just as bad as vomiting. Sometimes I wish I could just vomit and be done. Doesn't have to be vomiting to be hg.

Try sipping coke or diet coke, up to 5 cans a day is fine caffeine wise, ice ice cold drinks really help, sip water slowly, invest in straws, experiment with food. I can't bear sugary things they made me worse but cheese puffs and savoury things were amazing. Nutella on white toast kept me up for 7 months and was my staple food in first five months. I'm very much a savoury Queen.

Eat what you can. Don't feel pressure to eat salad and greens always. If you want pizza, have pizza. Whatever gets you through.

mrsb that is good news and must be a relief for you to be earning more again as well. Remember to take it easy and lots of breaks though :)

Elizabeth you are doing a fab job :)

Well as for me, sitting waiting out my glucose test. Don't get done till 11th when they take second blood test. It tasted vile. Wish I could put my head down on the sofa and nap....

But going to Edinburgh this evening, can't wait! Babymoon...and can satisfy this burning need to eat wagamamas I have had recently.

livingzuid · 08/04/2014 08:25

Wow 11am and also forgot to write aside from Nutella I am a savoury Queen. Cannot type!

I find too I go through food cycles. I will eat something then go off it. The only sugar I have now is in the forum of gala melon and rambutan for some reason. Sugar otherwise leaves a horrendous taste in my mouth and makes me want to be very ill indeed.

SassehMonsta · 08/04/2014 08:27

Thanks guys, I'm doing ok with my fluid intake as i have a lung disease which already requires me to drink more water than usual, so I'm drinking about 8 pints a day in small amounts. The nausea seems to calm down just as i want up so making the most of it by eating as soon as i wake up and taking a couple of naps. Managed some more pasta this morning and not feeling too queasy right now (but I'm about to get up....)

Think I'll be telling the boss I've got a stomach bug for a bit longer.

Oklahoma · 08/04/2014 08:44

Sasseh hang on in there. I know 14 weeks seems like forever away but you will get there. I joined this thread at 6 weeks and some days I was literally just trying to get through the next hour but the ladies on here are wonderful and they will get you through. I'm now 12 weeks and I honestly don't think I would still be sane without them all!

Oklahoma · 08/04/2014 08:51

3 month scan today - excited!!

livingzuid · 08/04/2014 08:58

Good luck oklahoma!

Meerka · 08/04/2014 09:17

good luck okla!

Meerka · 08/04/2014 09:48

my good news (hopefully confirmed thurs) is that they will be inducing me at the start of 38 weeks, so hopefully next Tuesday. It's tentatively booked in. They're inducing cause the preg is hard on me, all is well with the baby thank god.

I know it's so close to the end now but Im in bed by lunchtime again the last few days with nausea and general unwellness ... im sorry to complain when it's so close to the end and so many people have so far to go. Its just that even 7 days seems a grim endurance test atm.

Lottiedoubtie · 08/04/2014 09:58

Good luck okla and yay Meerka that's so exciting!

Oklahoma · 08/04/2014 09:58

Meerka never apologise for complaining that is what this thread is for and 7 days can feel like forever when you're living hour to hour.

Sending lots of sympathy your way xx

mrsb87 · 08/04/2014 10:20

Great news meerka! Finally an end in sight, I bet you're feeling a little relieved?

Good luck okla, hopefully your little bean will be cooperative!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 08/04/2014 14:30

very, very sad but this is Peaches' experiences of HG - linked onto the peaches thread by another MN, from her blog
here

Tallyra · 08/04/2014 15:27

congrats and good luck meerka, that must get your spirits up!
good luck okla too, I hope the scan goes well.

A word of advice if having an elcs. after not being allowed to eat all day in case of general anaesthetic, remember to eat properly the next day. I had a shower just before lunch today and was so shaky I almost fell over!

No sickness so far though!

Meerka · 08/04/2014 16:05

thank you ... am beyond glad this is almost at an end, just clinging onto to that knowledge, even if it feels a loooooong way away. half day by half day, as you say finch

eek tally hope you have eaten now - and I bet it tastes a million times better nwo :)

that link is so sad :(

SassehMonsta · 08/04/2014 17:24

Phew, today I've felt more human, and had several marmite sandwiches - mmmm! Told my boss and husband told his :-) only felt sick today when driving for more than 5 mins at a time, wearing travel sickness bands and getting some food into me worked better today.

Oklahoma · 08/04/2014 17:34

OMG just got back from the scan. You could see it kicking and jumping around. All looks good so feeling pretty happy!

Lottiedoubtie · 08/04/2014 17:41

Yay! So pleased Okla I loved my scan too, was amazing to see the baby moving around! It's such a relief when they tell you all is well too.

I've been determinedly resting today as tomorrow is my birthday and I'd really like to enjoy the day!

elizabethsmum · 08/04/2014 18:30

Such lovely news tallyra - congratulations on your little pink bundle. Hope you are recovering well. Such a boost to everyone here to have a new arrival on the thread!!

Welcome sasseh sorry you are feeling so rough- you will find plenty of empathy here from everyone- current and former hg sufferers alike. Symptoms can start this early unfortunately. Well done for managing to keep your fluid uptake up so far. I would recommend you getting specialist advice if this becomes unmanageable

  • dehydration can occur very quickly and with your lung condition needing such a high fluid intake you will definitely need adequate medical support.

meerka good news that you will finally have a date confirmed soon. Never apologise - this is what we are all here for. I remember just about loosing the will about a week before twins arrived when dd1 and I had simultaneous vomiting bugs.

glad you had a good scan okla (I think I may have owned up to the fact that I am a sonographer in rl - hope your sonographer was nice Wink

Sorry to rush off will be back to check up on everyone later x

elizabethsmum · 08/04/2014 18:33

Enjoy wagamammas living!!

Meerka · 09/04/2014 08:52

good news about the scan okla, it's one of the few things that brightens up the HG life isnt it? so nice to see the little mite swimming around!

glad to hear you're eating a little bit and feeling a bit better sasseh

Booboostoo · 09/04/2014 09:53

Great news meerka!!

TMI alert and moan alert: after DD spending the whole weekend with D&V (first vomit was literally all over me!), now the dog has D&V. The vet didn't really believe how bad it was until she did one diarhoea in the surgery and (serious TMI alert) the liquid poo exploded all the way to the ceiling.

Give me strength!

Oklahoma · 09/04/2014 10:48

Oh Booboo I don't know what what to say! It's like life just keeps pushing to see how far it can go before we snap. Hope things get better.

petitlapin1 · 09/04/2014 19:45

Ondansetron and metoclopramide. Found my magic bullets! (Apart from the shower vomits, nothing fixes those.)

Can't remember if I congratulated tally. Lots of congratulations!

Is it meerka next?

Meerka · 10/04/2014 08:35

Oh dear boo I hope today is going better. poor daughter and well ... poor vet! (and dog)

Glad that Ondan and meto are working, petit, are you managing to have some sort of quality of life trickle back?

yes ... Yes, I'm next. Tuesday, if all goes well at the gyne today. Off in an hour or so. Time seems to have stopped though, like existing in a thick green tinged cloud where you're always walking forwards but getting nowhere.

Hopefully that's just an illusion, heh
