I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Congratulations

petitlapin1 · 01/04/2014 19:58

Meant to say-
Congratulations on both the baby girl and being so early
totes! Hope you're enjoying newborn cuddles and lots of nausea free food and drink.

How's everyone doing today? :)

Totesamazeballs · 01/04/2014 20:10

Hi! Thank you all! I am eating normally now - salad, fruit and veg, but still got a bit of a lingering taste which I guess will gradually disappear like last time. I can't wait to get into my old clothes again! Having usual breast feeding nightmare but will mix feed, express and not stress like I did last time. Just gritting my teeth until colostrum has been replaced with milk. Birth was great in as far as it can be! No interventions needed and we were home by the evening. I think I am still in shock!

Got dot thank everyone for their support on here, especially Mother Hen. I will be checking back x

Suzysnoozy · 02/04/2014 06:30

Can I ask for some advice? I'm 13weeks pregnant and weeks 6-12i felt awful assumed it was morning sickness, I felt better last week and returned to work yesterday. Overnight I have been awake with a sore belly, not nauseous but did vomit everything in my stomach, drank some water same thing. I feel awful and too scared to take paracetamol in case it comes back up. I'm not sure what I'm asking, does this sound like morning sickness or a bug I've picked up?

I apologise for poor grammar but right now I don't have the attention to read through and correct.

mrsnec · 02/04/2014 06:54

Hi everyone, just checking in, hope everyone is ok,
Congratulations totes,
Hi Suzy, I've not been diagnosed with Hg and am not an expert so one of the others will be along soon. I do know that everyone is different and every pregnancy is different but my experience is that I've had constant nausea in all 3 of my pregnancies. With actual sickness once or twice a day every day from about 6 weeks. I'm 14 weeks now and I still have the nausea but the sickness is a little less frequent but I understand ms can come and go as can a bug. It does sound like it could be either keeping hydrated is the important thing that's one of the main things I got from this thread. Sorry I wasn't much help.

Meerka · 02/04/2014 09:01

Hi suzy, welcome.

I'm not in any way a doctor!!

Weeks 6-12 being sick is pretty typical of morning sickness, though. Not to rule out a bug though. But preg nausea + vomitting does tend to get worse after effort and returning to work must have been really tiring. So it could be the morning sickness.

Do keep trying to get liquids down. Try very hot or very cold, or fizzy stuff, that helps some people. Even sucking ice cubes. Or sipping the drinks even through a straw.

Give it 24 or 48 hours and see how you feel. if it's still the same then go to the doctor (specially if you still can't keep liquids down. Like mrsb says, that's the important thing).

About work, if it's returning to work that's caused the relapse, is there any chance of returning first on half -days? Or limited hours, and build up?

Hope you feel better soon

petitlapin1 · 02/04/2014 10:24

Dear lovely dental hygienist,
I am so sorry for this morning, if it's any consolation I think I missed your shoes...

Quite enough exertion for one day, back to bed for me!

Booboostoo · 02/04/2014 10:30

Oh dear petit!!! I am desperate to go to the dentist but I fear the same sort of outcome!

Meerka · 02/04/2014 11:53

dentists are the worst!

Lottiedoubtie · 02/04/2014 12:22

OH petit what a start to the day! Poor you, are you feeling any better now?

LucindaE · 02/04/2014 13:52

Suzysnoozy Welcome, I'm sorry you feel awful. I can't really improve on others' advice. From my own experience, usually when you've got a stomach ache with pregnancy sickness it's because of hurting muscles with excessive heaving - it could even be a bug, or just general stomach trouble? It might be worth phoning up midwife to say you're a bit anxious - though almost certainly it's nothing sinister. If you've been off work for six weeks you must have been very ill and as others say, it could be the effort of returning to work has returned the sickness. Have you got any coke in to sip flat, or ice lollies, or ice cubes? Petitlapin might give better advice, she's medically qualified but very unwell today, I think! Sorry about that awful dental expereince, Petitelapin. It's bad enough having to open wide when you don't feel sick.
Mereka Waves.
Totes Happy news! Smile
Lottie and mrsnec waves.

well done to you petit for even making the attempt!

Suzy sorry to hear that. I got a vile stomach bug around week 15 of pregnancy. There was a definite difference between it and the hg. I was projectile vomiting every quarter of an hour with the bug, with my hg it was more of a slow vom.

It could be either. With my hg I just vomited in my first trimester , I didn't have nausea really. Now in my third I just feel horrendous nausea but with no vomming. Best to go to your gp to get checked if you are concerned it's a bug :) hope you feel better soon.

Meerka · 02/04/2014 20:53

yikes living - can you have local anaesthetic when you are preg?

Tallyra · 02/04/2014 21:39

You poor thing living, it sounds painful. I have had temporary fillings with local since I got pg living, but I'm pretty sure they won't do root canal.

livingzuid · 03/04/2014 11:03

I definitely have a hole somewhere. My old root canal really started to ache again so I am just hoping it is pregnancy related. Good to know I can get a temporary filling, going to be brave and make the appointment today. I always ask for extra anaesthetic as I'm such a wimp! Don't want it to turn into another root canal that's for sure.

It's all because of this bloody hg. I could only start brushing and flossing again around week 20. So had basically 3 months of not being able to clean my teeth properly yuk. It wreaks havoc with your poor teeth, not being able to clean and all the acid from vomiting, no?

I'm getting really sick in the morning again. Managed to have a nap and feel a bit better but still am back in bed.

Beautiful weather here, hope people are not getting full of Saharan dust!

LucindaE · 03/04/2014 11:17

livingzuid You poor thing, I hope they sort it out. It's interesting you had vomiting but no nausea,I can't imagine vomiting without nausea, shows how different people are even in an illness. A woman on here was angry because the dentist hygienist said smething on the lines of, 'You don't have bullemia (sp) do you? All this acid erosion makes me wonder' and the woman said crossly, 'No, but I HAVE had three Hyperemesis pregnancies, with vomiting throughout' (or words to that effect!).
Waves to all anxiously. I hope Suzy Petite and Everyone is feeling a little better today.

Living that sounds horrible. All the side effects of HG just seem so unfair! I've been getting sores around my mouth from the stomach acid. You'd think HG would be enough on its own.

Petit that sounds pretty rough. Nothing quite like throwing up in public. I hope they were nice to you about it.

Hi everyone else. How is it all going?

LucindaE · 03/04/2014 18:27

Okla I so agree. How are you? I hope Petitelapin and livingzuid Suzysnoozy and others are feeling slightly better?

Hi all- sorry feel like I have not been around to offer much moral support pass sick bucket lately!

Congratulations to totes on your new arrival! Was looking at EDD list- quite a few due dates coming up now!

mrsb def need to keep taking/being prescribed meds- I had all the way through with DD1 and to 28 weeks with DT's.

To those awaiting or having had CVS- I had double amino with the twins as one had 1:44 risk. Much higher chance that all will be well- I can say that as a parent/former patient and with my professional sonographer head on. Hope all has gone well/goes well.

Sorry have only had time to briefly read the last few pages of the thread so apologies to the many I have missed out. Waves to everyone and hi to those new to the thread-sorry you have found yourselves suffering but welcome to a lovely supportive group who have been there and will help you through it :)

ziggystarducks · 03/04/2014 23:16

Evening all x

Apart from nausea on Monday morning, I'm happy to report that I've not had anything since then.
I'm at 5 weeks now, so IF it's going to revisit me, it will happen in the next 2-3 weeks.
I saw the hypnotist on Tuesday evening. I know it sounds extreme, but my HG was SO bad last time, that I knew I have to try everything possible to stop it affecting me so badly this time.
When I walked into her treatment room, there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers; which I learnt she had just received from a chemo patient whose nausea she had substantially reduced using hypnosis.
Certainly I've not had any nausea so far, but it's far too early to tell yet, but I'll quickly let you know if it recurs.

Suzysnoozy · 03/04/2014 23:25

Hi everyone, thank you for the kind words and support. It ended up being a really nasty stomach bug, I should have known as it felt completely different and I couldn't cope, I even ended up with an anti sickness injection from the dr, being told I may be hospitalised, raised temp that wouldn't come down, then finally a trip to a&e with severe chest/back pain! All in all a horrendous day but feeling mildly better today, unlike before my stomach aches so dry toast for me.

Thank you again for the support, I was at a point of not coping, I normally read threads but don't post but I'm glad I did it helped me to feel better.

mrsb87 · 04/04/2014 07:56

One benefit of having a horrid snotty cold plus HG.....no dodgy smells! Not a lot of sleep and a nasty sore throat though. Feeling a little bit sorry for myself today.
How is everyone else getting on?

mrsnec · 04/04/2014 08:11

Hi all,

Sorry to hear about the bad experiences at the dentist you are braver ladies than I! But yes it crossed my mind the damage the sickness can do to the teeth.

Suzy, glad you are a little better,Mrsb hope the cold clears soon but yes I can sympathise with the smell thing it's always smells that set me off. Hope everyone else is ok.

I had a few days of no sickness and the nausea was improving. You'd think I'd be happy but it sent me into blind panic! My bump turned out to be bloat, I had another issue I changed my diet and it went so I'm back in my skinny jeans, now, I was no skinny minny before pg, i had lost loads of weight to get pg but still had a bmi of 26. So, now I'm. 14+2 and haven't gained an ounce. I know there's nothing wrong with that but, my app is telling me I should have gained 2kg by now and there is a celeb all over the press the same age and build as me with the same dates flaunting massive bump so I've now convinced myself it's stopped growing. Still got another week to go before my appointment at the hospital don't think I can handle it!

Did have a little bile run as soon as I woke up, first time in 5 days hopefully that was some reassurance!

Tallyra · 04/04/2014 08:20

step away from the app mrsnec! it doesn't apply and I found some of the info in mine quite upsettingly inaccurate. you are still fine. my bump didn't show til about 18w.

Meerka · 04/04/2014 08:29

suzy glad to hear you are better, what a horrible bug! I hope the hypnotist can help ziggy

glad to hear the nausea is improving mrsb. it does fluctuate for quite a lot of people and slowly gets better for most. funny how the -lack- of nausea can somehow be quite worrying after a while being sick! Maybe the celeb has, ahem, enhanced her bump =)

How you doing, tallyra ... three days to go! :D :D
