I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

im just thinking it might help if you're upchucking a lot and the only thing left in your tummy is stomach acid which maybe contributes to generally feeling awful? I think others have used it quite a bit. Maybe someone else can say for sure. just an idea! :)

tallyra sorry to hear it :(

Oklahoma · 28/03/2014 09:54

Lottie I've struggled a bit with indigestion (and I rang NHS direct at 2 am cause I thought I was dying so I can totally relate. Gaviscon saved my life (but it does taste foul).

Oklahoma · 28/03/2014 09:55

Also whoever just said about surviving the next hour, you read my mind!!

SliceOfLime · 28/03/2014 10:06

Big virtual hugs to lottie mrsb and talleyra Lottis it is such hard work, it's normal to feel frankly miserable ! Not sure that's very reassuring... Grin And mrsb I think what the others have said is right about people bit understanding and thinking it's just sickness when it isn't - I never say it's sickness, always say hyperemesis, makes it sound worse! And definitely send a link to more info for your mum.

For mrsb and talleyra and those stressing about having another - for the love of Pete don't think about it now! I couldn't have contemplated it til DD was gone 2, and I haven't been as ill as some of you. I have been living with my mum from 6-22 weeks and she's been in total charge of me and DD all this time, I simply couldn't have done it otherwise. If I am ever mad enough to do it again it won't be til bump is in school full time. Just don't feel like you have to decide anything now or put pressure on yourselves either way, it won't help you feel any better right now.

talleyra sorry to hear your little one is breech. I don't know anything about breech births so apologies if this in insensitive but is it not possible to give birth to a breech baby vaginally? I'm sure I saw it happen on Call The Midwife (I know it's not real but just wondered Blush )

Totesamazeballs · 28/03/2014 10:46

Tally - have you checked out the spinning babies website? It gives you some exercises to encourage them to turn. If he/ she won't then on the plus side, you won't end up with anyone cutting your fanjo and your pelvic floor will be intact!

LucindaE · 28/03/2014 11:27

Lottie Glad you feel a bit better. I had heartburn from the time by period was due, si it's not too early. So agree with others, do get some meds. Some wear by Ranatidine, I think that's on prescription. I swallowed loads of Gaviscon and it made me feel very bloated.
Okla How are tings with you?
Totes Lovely to hear from you - how do you ever manage to waddle after a 22 moth old - no wonder you need the chocolate and certeal.
Poor old you, suffering throughout like this.
Several women on this thread have gone for it three times, and I don't know how they survived, one was working full time with two small boys for whom she did the cooking, and getting lifts to work from someone with a horror of vomiting - poor her.
Punkstar I'm appalled by your description of how ill you looked - how anyone can not think that indicates something serious is beyond me.
SliceofLime Good advice, as ever. That consultant was talking sense, I don't think many people do feel fully normal in pregnancy, though they do feel much, much better.
mrsb87 Congratulations on work going OK. Anyone who has ever had a baby seems to think they know all about this, it's very annoying.
Okla How are things?
Tallyra I don't know much about this - a friend had a breech birth a good few years ago and said it wasn't too bad - but perhaps she was being stoic/lucky? Would turning be risky or very horrible? Weirdly, I know they can make babies turn with herbs in the Amazonian jungle - why can't we?
Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone/;cross posted.

Slice, yes it is possible to have a natural birth still but for the same reason we don't want to turn her I'm not happy to go down that route. the thing we are most concerned with is the least stress on the baby as possible. there is the risk of getting stuck and being in distress and ending up in surgery anyway, and I'd much rather get my head around a planned section than an emergency one. the same can be said for a doctor turning her - there's always the chance of waters breaking and having to go straight into surgery then and there.
I've heard of the spinning babies website and I'll be looking into that today.

PunkStar · 28/03/2014 12:10

Tallyra
My little boy was breech. Slightly different to your scenario as I was so relieved! Knew I was going to decline an ECV even though they are pretty effective. I just wanted the damn thing over with.
Someone mentioned spinning babies already, prob worth a look.

I also was given the option of a vaginal breech delivery with proper counselling. Not that I'm recommending this but it was a tertiary centre so they had professionals who were trained and experienced with this kind of delivery. Not for me!

Elective C section was fine. I felt a little nervous before hand but I really couldn't stand being pregnant anymore. The pain the next day was pretty bad but it was actually trapped wind from the procedure, so I would take something in like peppermint cordial....apparently this can really help?! They said we could go after 24 hours but we stayed an extra night for breastfeeding support.
Hehe Totes is right re fanjo and pelvic floor....it's like I've never been pregnant (so far!!!)

Good grief... I actually wonder if the HG seems worse this time because I have a one year old. Nursery 2 days a week then I stay with my Da for three nights, he looks after him on the days I work as I don't leave work until after 8pm.
Would not be able to cope with two little boys and another HG preggo. We might be uprooting next year to NZ or Canada....no family!!! Aaaggghhhh...defo no further babbies.

Lottie
It's too early for the physical side of pregnancy to cause indigestion but yet another HG curse....all that vomiting is giving your oesophagus a battering with acid. You should be able to get gaviscon and ranitidine from your GP. I have it on repeat prescription now. Glad things aren't as bad as through the night....

Meerka
You are still vomiting too?! Not long though..

For those that cannot get out of bed/read/watch TV. When I was in that hellish stage I found I could play puzzle games on a Nintendo DS or smart phone/tablet for short periods, helped to pass a bit of time. Audio books were manageable too :-)

PunkStar · 28/03/2014 12:10

^Essay!!

PunkStar · 28/03/2014 12:16

Cross posted Tallyra
The stats they gave me were that no baby had ever needed emergency section or intervention at their hospital during an ECV. Might be worth finding out at your hosp.
I wouldn't fancy a vaginal breech either!!!!

I was interviewed by an obs doing her PhD on breech as I was the first person to decline an ECV at this hospital!!!

Tallyra · 28/03/2014 12:35

thanks punk. that helps me a bit. its funny, my entire family unit seems happier for me to have surgery than my previous choice of natural water birth (admittedly at home was their objection). I still don't want to be cut open but I'd rather have it sorted and know what's going on now there's a complication.

PunkStar · 28/03/2014 12:44

I'd actually swapped hospitals to one with a midwifery led unit. Each room had it's own birthing pool, so I understand what you feel you are missing.

I found having an end date and knowing that at 39 weeks gestation the risks for baby and a c section were low (more risk for us....but still low!!) reassuring. It helped me get through the end of the pregnancy really, but I was tearing my hair out.

My scar is fading nicely and it's really low. I started driving again at three weeks and was out running/buggy boot camp by ten weeks. Although by day four we were going out for walks...,to the pub! Yes! Cider! Pub lunch! No fecking nausea or vomiting and no mental smells!!!

Ah the end is in sight Tallyra, I am so looking forward to June :-)!!!!

PunkStar · 28/03/2014 12:52

Sorry, I am type happy today.
I just want to rant about something off topic.....
Is MIL's birthday week and a half after my CS.

She wants to stay in a cottage somewhere in the Lakes. I thought this would be doable. OH suggested it might be nice if we stayed in a separate cottage for bit of privacy and so that new little boy didn't disturb everyone. Great!

Anyway they've booked one flipping four bedroom cottage for 8 adults and three little uns!
Meaning there will be me, OH, one year old LB and new born LB all in one room. Bah, is better to get it off chest here as don't want to be selfish whingey mare when is someone else's b'day celebration.
Thanks feel better now!!!

Tallyra · 28/03/2014 12:55

That sounds like a nightmare, unless pil are up for taking your one year old off your hands a lot of the time?

Lottiedoubtie · 28/03/2014 13:08

That does sound like a nightmare! Any chance you can still book a nearby cottage?

PunkStar · 28/03/2014 14:51

We can't find one :-( it's in the middle of nowhere...not even actually at the lakes when I've looked at it's true location! It's the night time I'm worried about. The little boy sleeps well in his own room if not disturbed but I think he's gonna get woken by a hungry little ten day old every 2-3 hours. Grumpy boy!
Apparently they tried to ring us late last night before they booked. My advice to myself would be to drink lots of alcohol but the whole breastfeeding limits that ;-)
Mmmmm alcohol.

Oklahoma · 28/03/2014 14:59

I thought I would miss alcohol desperately but that is one plus of HG!

PunkStar · 28/03/2014 15:06

I know. HG destroyer of fun. The idea of normality and having a cocktail sat in the sun, overlooking a river...

Lottiedoubtie · 28/03/2014 15:08

I miss alcohol! I know I couldn't actually stomach it even I wanted to, but I crave the idea of sitting in a pub garden with a nice cold glass of wine feeling well...

Meerka · 28/03/2014 15:39

a beer in the sun instead of being in bed clutchign the bucket and feeling lonely ....

SliceOfLime · 28/03/2014 16:23

If only we could all meet in a pub for a LARGE drink once all this is over!

punk I'm envious of your pelvic floor, I'm not sure I have one any more Grin when I was in labour with dd she was back to back and two midwives, a consultant and a registrar all had a good rummage round up there trying to turn her - then they got the forceps out...! talleyra there's a lot to be said for an intact undercarriage Blush

Also punk I didn't realise your little boy was only one , wow this pg must have been very hard with such a little one, hats off to you. PIL holiday plan sounds like a bit of a mare... Is there no where else nearby you can stay? Can't believe they thought it would be a good idea so soon after dc2 arriving?!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 28/03/2014 16:42

hooray back from hospital just now with Ethan Joseph in tow Grin
7lb 5oz born via C-section with forceps

am battered and had zero sleep as the boy is wide awake cluster feeding then Hmm

thanks for the HG support, my nausea has gone, now replaced with slight nausea from nerves Smile
so nice to drink thirstily
benefit to stopping the ondansetron = easy to poo after section LOL

SliceOfLime · 28/03/2014 16:53

He's gorgeous, congratulations finch ! So happy to see another beautiful baby and hear of another recovered hg victim ! Thanks and Cake for you!

mrsb87 · 28/03/2014 17:03

Aahhhh congratulations finch! I'm so pleased for you. Are you enjoying eating again?
