I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Oh dear, not a good afternoon/evening yesterday. Completely exhausted and the nausea and heartburn was probs a 7/10. Vommed before I went to bed which made the nausea worse.
This morning I've had some cereal but gagging quite a lot which is making me worry that it isn't going to stay down Sad

Booboostoo · 24/03/2014 07:40

LucindaE "I vomit therefore I am?"

mrsnec · 24/03/2014 07:52

Hi Boo, yes I remember you from the oversees thread, think I need to go this week maybe I'll be lucky and get different docs. All being well it would be nice to celebrate my pg and to have something positive to think about. Yes I will definitely be in Cyprus for the birth. I was pg last summer too and with sickness this bad, and had an illness the year before (encephalitis) where the afrer effects mean I'm less tolerant of heat but I coped just!

We are self sufficient in electricity so I don't need to worry about the cost of air con, and we don't have a pool but the inlaws do and we're 10 mins drive from the beach so I'm thinking early morning and late evening swimming when the water is warm enough.anyone else find swimming helps? Athens is lovely hope to tackle dh one day he's never been. Think moaning about the heat isn't far off it was 27 degrees over the weekend.

Mrsb, hi! Hope you keep your breakfast down, can't imagine what its like to have heartburn too.

mrsnec · 24/03/2014 07:54

Take not tackle!

Meerka · 24/03/2014 08:46

when I could take up swimming agani, it didnt help the nausea but it felt really nice cause the the relief of being able to do something -normal- plus the positive effects of exercise just really was great. Tended to pay with extra nausea for 36 hours or so after, but it was well worth it. Plus it must be slightly strengthening for my body.

To be able to swim in the sea twice a day must be just amazing ... love seaswimming! Go for it! :)

SliceOfLime · 24/03/2014 09:05

Oh wow mesnec I would love to live so close to the beach, and warm enough to swim this time of year too... I grew up by the sea in Wales and I love sea swimming - but somewhere warmer would be nice!

booboo Grin like the Cartesian approach to hg...!

Last night I dreamt about really enjoying a bowl of bran flakes. I nearly cried (really) when I woke up. Never mind, not long til august when I can enjoy them again...

Mornings are so rubbish. My morning routine is to be woken by toddler sometime 7-7.30, eat a shortbread biscuit, read stories with her in bed while trying not to retch, my lovely mum brings me a cup of hot water, I wrestle DD into her clothes while she runs round climbing the furniture, then mum takes her to get her breakfast while I get half hour to stop retching before going to eat myself... We have been staying here the whole pregnancy really... Would it be unreasonable of me to write out a schedule for dh of things that need to happen in the mornings, when we move home next week?! If I don't get the biscuit / hot water / brief respite from DD routine my day does not go well...!

Meerka · 24/03/2014 09:26

no, its not unreasonable. Does he understand how bad HG is, and how narrow the range of tolerable food / drinks / routines are?

I truly do not know how you manage with a toddler.

Booboostoo · 24/03/2014 09:32

mrsnec can you find a doctor who is a friend of a friend, or a relative of a relative, or whatever combination of nepotistic connections gets you there 'sistimeni' (do you know this Greek word? It means 'recommended by a friend/relative')? It makes a huge difference to how doctors treat you (it shouldn't but it does!). We'll have a small pool next door at my mum's in Athens but no air-con! I think we'll really need to get some portable units in because 40C plus in the middle of the city is no laughing matter!

Lottiedoubtie · 24/03/2014 09:33

I think you should do that lime it's important he knows how to support you.

Shortbread however, sounds like a great idea, I'm going to ask DH to get me some next time he goes to the shops!

mrsnec · 24/03/2014 09:38

Well I am not sure if it is warm enough yet. The air temp certainly is. So I've set myself an objective this week, woman up and get myself scanned, all being well I'll treat myself to lovely fetching maternity swimwear to celebrate then brave the sea!

That's funny about bran flakes, one of the only foods I can tolerate, I've never eaten so much before, I ran out this morning a box lasted less than a week.

I agree I don't know how you manage with a toddler too. If having a routine is helping do whatever it takes to stick with it.

Oklahoma · 24/03/2014 09:43

I can barely look after myself let alone a toddler, you deserve a medal!!

Lime if he is anything like my DH he would love written instructions. He really wants to help but doesn't know what to do but this way he can.

Lottie how is that corner? You still feeling ok?

MrsB lots of sympathy for a bad evening.

I'm heading to doc soon (courtesy of mumtaxi) to try and get different meds as neither the Cyclizine or the Avomine have done enough.

mrsnec · 24/03/2014 09:49

Cross post there Boo, yes I know only too well about sistimeni, don't have any Cypriot connections really. Neighbours are cypriot but are a retired couple. I live in a very rural village but in the east of the island so my local towns are the touristy ones full of ex pats. It does help with the heat having a pool but I couldn't be without air con, we had the fan on in the bedroom last night! We have a hot tub which became a plunge pool last summer that helped a bit. How do you cope with flying Boo? Got a weekend away booked for June.

mrsb87 · 24/03/2014 10:25

Thanks oklahoma, breakfast did infact make a reappearance. Feeling like crap today. I hope it picks up again, I was doing so well!
There are lots of meds you can try, they put me on metoclopramide after the avomine. That worked for about a week!

LucindaE · 24/03/2014 10:42

Mrsnec Never worry about tmi on here, no such hting - I am glad lovely Tallyra has come on to encourage you about mmc's and normal pregnancies, I had one missed mmc and found that bad enough - nurses said sensitive things like 'Oh, it's because you've left it to your thirties' - but she had three mmc's, really harrowing. The chances are all on your side. That after care etc sounds really negligent, I suppose as it was a complete mc for you they didn't trouble but some reassurance is nice. How are thingstoday? I think sea air is wonderful for this, I don't know why, but others on the thread have mentioned that.

Okla I hope coping today?
Lottiedoubtie That sounds a very good Sunday. I hope things are continuing that way?
SliceofLime Lol, it made me into a subversive!
Booboosto You are so right, Grin 'I vomit therefore I am' might be a quote for GP's who ignore sufferers?
mrsnec Did you say Cybus- lovely - and Booboosto's in France- this is an international thread indeed, with Meerka and livingzuid in the Netherlands.
peitelapin How are things?
Chaffinch Wednesday! Just in case you haven't time to call in one the thread again, the best of luck and I am so happy your torment is coming to an end. You've been really stoic. To change a certain quote 'When we do meet again, why then we'll smile' eh? I'm being either geeky or pretentious today, or both.
Livingzuid and Meerka I hope not paying for all that activity.
Apologies to anyone cross posted with/overlooked.
xx

Hi all, Sunday was a great day! So far today I also don't feel too bad, although I'm not actually up yet Blush scared of jinxing it, so staying where I feel safe for awhile!

Will get up and brave the shower again soon, I really hope it's as good as the last one was!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 24/03/2014 11:24

hello, ah Ive just loads of time to be wasting spending usefully on MN Grin
just been post office and asda and got the shakes, low blood sugar I reckon = a bagel, a yogurt cereal pineapple pack and a raisin yorkie = heavenly. will be heart burn soon.
drowsing now so it's naptime
love to you all

ps how jealous am I of warm weather and beach/pool talk!!
here in the midlands it's fresh cold sunny beautiful blossomy English early spring, there are daffs and tulips everywhere but I'd still rather be on the beach Smile

mrsb87 · 24/03/2014 11:38

Good weather for getting the washing out chaffinch Wink. Well done for having such a good munch! Hmm bagel sounds good, with cream cheese?

mrsnec · 24/03/2014 12:07

Mrsb, hope you can keep something else down at some point during the day.

oklahoma, how did you get on at the docs?

Lucinda, yes Tally was a great help and I do try to look on the bright side sometimes at least the docs last time didn't have a go about my age or my weight I was expecting that too! Yes Im in cyprus. Glad the Midlands is sunny too today chaffinch, we still have a house there. I was going to have a lazy day today I would normally argue that fresh air doesn't always help but I do feel better having just been for a walk. Everything in blossom here too. The citrus trees are very pungent and I'm finding the smell quite soothing.

And I agree despite just having a blt a cream cheese bagel sounds very good indeed!

Lottie, here's to another good day!

Hope everyone else is ok.

Oklahoma · 24/03/2014 12:56

Ok actually. Saw same lady as last week who was very nice to me. She's given me Metoclopramine to try but has written into my notes that I'm to be given Ondanstron in 3/4 days if it doesn't help. Not sure what I would do if doc wasn't nice.

Just had some chicken soup and about to settle down for a nap and to let the drugs do their thing. Signed off work for another week too.

It's sunny here (London burbs) but pretty cold. Would love some warm sunshine!

Tallyra · 24/03/2014 13:15

I'm so glad I could help a bit mrsnec. It's very scary waiting to find out if the baby really is ok, especially if you are ill. I found the reassurance that it means a healthy baby fell very hollow to me, but the thing that really did get me through was having an amazing consultant who scanned me every week from about 8 weeks to about 16. It sounds like you may be having trouble with the hospitals, but I wish you really good luck finding someone who can help ease your fears. Xxxxx

Meerka · 24/03/2014 16:07

well mother Hen, you are right ... am paying for overdoing it. Kind of driven to get it done becuase it'll be so hard to do after the baby is born. Ugh, need to take it easy though

petitlapin1 · 24/03/2014 16:17

Mother in law has given me her cold which she neglected to mention she had and thatbshe needed antibiotics for Sore throat and snot like I've not had in years! Yuk. After her comments to DH at the weekend about tidying the house before baby comes and not offering to help once! she is not currently my favourite person. I did not even manage to vomit on her.

Other than that, had a better couple of days, 6 hours awake yesterday with only minimal vomiting.

Growth scan and consultant appointment tomorrow with DH. Hopefully excitement will build a bit more before then as not really feeling it yet. 32 weeks tomorrow.

Oklahoma · 24/03/2014 16:48

Oh Petit that sounds awful, you poor thing! That was really inconsiderate of her.

LucindaE · 24/03/2014 19:20

Just dashing on to say Petite you poor thing, that is so horrible, how thoughtless of her, just what you don't need. Didn't realise you were already at 32 weeks.
Okla I'm so glad she's got you down for Ondansetron, that's great.
Meerka Poor you.
mrsnec Sounds lovely. There's an icy wind here in mid Wales.
Leaves clucking anxiously. Sorry if overlooked anyone, tedious tasks call me away...
