34 weeks lost plug

So I'm pretty sure I'm losing my mucus plug since yesterday. I've noticed snot like discharge, in clumps and smaller pieces.
I've also had cramping which comes and goes. Feels a little like I have an upset stomach, but then I don't need to go.
I know you can lose the plug a few weeks before anything happens and that it can also regenerate, but how will I know?
Anyone had experience of this? What was the outcome?

You will probably get a wee bit of blood too, before actual labour.

I would call your midwife and tell her, write down pains etc. to keep track of them in case cramping turns into contractions and make sure your hospital bag is ready just in case! They will probably want you to go in so you can be examined and I'd take your bag with you in case you end up staying

I'm putting off having to go in as I've already been a few times during the pregnancy. Once quite early on and it turned out to be a UTI and once a few weeks ago to check for pre eclampsia (negative). Feel a bit silly having to go again and for everything to be ok (not that I want there to be problems Confused). I know better safe than sorry but still...
I'm going to wait it out a little bit and have breakfast etc to see how I feel.
Just wanted to know what others experiences were to try and get an idea of what to expectBlush

I'd speak to your midwife. I am having the same symptoms (losing plug and cramping) but am 40 weeks so assuming labour is imminent. As you're before 37 weeks they'll want to keep an eye on premature labour.

Don't put it off and don't feel silly - its what they're there for. Having said that, my plug started to go like yours about 35 weeks - snotty, coming in bits but no blood. Now almost 39 weeks, haven't seen any more plug for a week or two and no sign of baby coming soon. But don't risk it - just call.

Highlove did you get checked out at 35 weeks? Do they test for preterm labour or just wait to see how things progress?

Please don't feel like you are being a pain. This is your child you are caring for inside you and the medical staff in the hospital are there to help you. Please talk to your midwife straight away xxx

Nope - they were very relaxed about it and said that it is not unusual for them to start going. I happened to be at triage being monitored for something else entirely at the time I spotted them though, so we knew baby was happy. Midwife didn't ask to see it or anything. But you still must call!

I'm 34wks too and had what looked like a bloody show a few nights ago (thick bloody discharge) and then blood when wiping yesterday evening... No cramps but very frequent tightenings/Braxton hicks. Will speak to midwife on Monday but I too think if it's anything more serious it'll become obvious?

With ds I lost the plug the day I went into labour and don't remember a show! So I'm as clueless as you OP :)

So I called MAU and they've told me to wait and see what happens. So take a bath and let them know if pain gets worse or baby slows down. Fingers crossed it's all good!

I lost my mucus plug at 34 weeks exactly and made it till 35+6.
But I had had lots of contractions before and had been in hospital due to an infection.

So my contractions got stronger yesterday so was asked to come in to hospital to get checked. Told I would be kept in overnight by, what I thought, an overly cautious doctor.
Then my waters break at 7! Watch this space...Hmm

I think you should call your midwife, I only lost mine in one go at 37 weeks then went into labour that night at about 8 o'clock I went for a wee and I lost a tiny bit with a stinge of blood. But I do know that women can lose it quite early although it can build up again and your labour won't start for a while. I am not a midwife though just a mum Smile give her a call and just explain.

Give the midwife a call because even if you feel silly it's the health of the baby that matters more.
Also you might have another UTI which is causing the cramps.

Thanks guys! Contractions haven't developed into labour. So have been given steroid injections and antibiotics and can hopefully go home soon if blood tests are clear! Then induction at 36 weeks (gulp).

Is induction really as bad as I've heard? I'm getting a little scared now....Sad

But I'm sure it's probably one of those things that vary so you might get a lovely one

Eek, scary stuff! How come they're happy to wait until 36wks to induce? Is it your forewaters that have gone, or hind?
Re induction, my hind waters went with ds so I was induced 24hrs later at 40+5 though; it was fine for me, no pain relief and 2.5hrs established labour we won't mention the three hours pushing! so you may be fine.

I'm off to be checked myself so fingers crossed it isn't anything serious... Hope you're ok OP :)

Fingers crossed for an easy induction Mumof3x.

They want to give enough time for baby's lungs to be developed and are monitoring very closely for signs of infection. I've had the steroids so if labour starts now or there are any other complications they are happy to let me have baby/induce.
After 36 weeks the risk of infection outweighs the benefits to the baby of staying in the womb once waters have gone.
I can go home now whoop! Hopefully not too long until I meet my lil man Smile

That makes sense. Hurrah for being able to go home! I'm just back from hospital and all is ok here - just losing plug they reckon.

Hope all stays well with you both and baby stays put for a bit longer :)

with my second I lost my plug at 25 weeks and my water broke at 25 weeks too, I had the steroids (they bloody hurt lol) I started bleeding a 26weeks and had to stay in hospital, and went into labour at 28 weeks, (prem baby :/ scary... same size as my hand )

I also went with a friend for an induction, she said it wasn't to uncomfortable but felt a little sore and had a weird feeling down there..
