Tally, the only way I made sense of the dates thing is that your body starts the pregnancy by preparing the new womb lining ready for implantation even before conception. But really I think it's just convenience because more people know lmp date.

Tallyra · 05/03/2014 17:43

Yes, 'normal' people not ttc obsessively checking their bbt etc wouldn't really know date of conception. We are just the odd ones that were tracking so hard we just know. Or you had ivf in which case it's kind of hard to get the date wrong Wink

Bunnygirlie · 05/03/2014 18:34

Hellooooooooo

So will they change my dates even though I know exactly when EC and ET was?

So a girl at work announced she was pg today! Still a funny feeling but 6 months ago this would have killed me and prompted more crying in loos!

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/03/2014 18:36

Potentially Bunny, they did with a previous berry (who shall not be named but who was banned and ha IVF abroad Wink)

I've just listened to a hypnobirthing cd. I'm a bit hmmm but will persevere. Wish it could hypnotise me into remembering to do my kegels and PM!

Foodylicious · 05/03/2014 20:01

Just had yoga

1,2,3 everybody CLENCH!!!

Wriggly baby today
Not in the Yhursday club, will be 26 weeks on Sunday

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/03/2014 20:12

Has anybody done any research or had any thoughts on the third stage of labour? I figure its something I should have an opinion on before I get there...

BlearyeyedLol · 05/03/2014 20:20

Merk has our secret friend had her baby yet??? Maybe she should show up in the grads thread!
Third stage- I didn't has much of an opinion. When I got there the mw told me I could get this injection to speed it up. I felt nothing and the placenta came out (I think!) with no major dramas!
By the way merk how are you feeling? Are you still betting on Sunday? How exciting!!

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/03/2014 20:27

No baby yet as far as I know.
I'm really hitting my stride, I'm shattered, but outside of that I feel good and more excited than nervous. Still hoping for Sunday but no idea if she is in agreement Grin

jessplussomeonenew · 05/03/2014 20:34

Merk, Expecting better comes out pretty definitely in favour of third stage syntocinon injections as the best way to cut the risk of pph - can't remember the details but seemed fairly convincing reasoning at the time.

I was a Sunday changeover but am now Saturday.

Thunderpantsarego · 05/03/2014 20:41

Yep we learnt about third stage in NCT and with mw and filled in NHS birth plan sheet at 36 week appt. we're going for giving physiological a go if all is well. I don't want any more hormones than I need and apparently side effect is headaches which I could do without after all the headaches I've had this pregnancy! Each to their own of course

jess what's pph? Haemorrhage?

BlindKitty · 05/03/2014 20:56

merk lol @ 'she who shall not be named'. Why don't you invite her to the grads fb group if you're stilling touch?

bleary what is the injection called?

So back under mw care after yet another pointless registrar appointment. No measuring, no Doppler and plenty of questions with 'why don't you ask the mw' as an answer!

So in non pregnancy news my chief of nursing emailed me today to say how impressed she was with a project I've been working on and how the CEO was talking about it at a board meeting last week. Grin quite pleased seeing as we have over 5,000 members staff!

PoppySeedBun · 05/03/2014 21:06

Evening, berries.
Think I'm 33 weeks today - I think they moved my dates early on to changeover on a Thursday instead, but as it was only one day change, I've basically been ignoring that Grin
Little poppyseed is head down, so just keeping fingers crossed she stays that way.
Re: third stage, we had a conversation about it in NCT. Her conclusion seemed to be that the middle ground of briefly delaying cord clamping, and then having an injection after a delay gives a bit if best of both.

If you liked Expecting Better, and are comfortable poking around in the research a bit, I've found the Cochrane reviews really useful. These are independent reviews that look at all the the research published on a topic, and summarise the balance of evidence. They have a plain language summary for each review that explains what they found. Eg for third stage management:

BlearyeyedLol · 05/03/2014 21:44

Blind I think it's this syntocinon Jess mentioned. Prob the same one thunder is talking about!

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/03/2014 21:50

Thank you all for saving me having to read up!
Kitty great news about the mw care

Thunderpantsarego · 05/03/2014 22:03

Oo yes I totally missed that kitty- fantastic news, well done!

jessplussomeonenew · 05/03/2014 22:11

Sorry, yes, meant post-partum haemorrhage.

I was reading a very natural-childbirth-oriented book today which made the very sensible point that "contraction" isn't the best thought to have in mind when in labour as it seems the exact opposite of opening up and being as relaxed as possible. Generally the book was a bit too hippyish for me but that point struck me as interesting!

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 10:23

Last week the top of my uterus was up against the bottom of my bra, this morning there's a four finger gap!

Thunderpantsarego · 06/03/2014 10:26

So she CAN drop down?! Great

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 10:41

Either that or she's shrunk or she is a contortionist! She was quite quiet yesterday which got my hopes up but she's back on the dance floor this morning.
Just read another thread on here... anybody else getting nostalgic about the bump and not wanting it to be gone? I'm suddenly wanting to keep her to myself and know I am going to miss being able to feel her wriggling around

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 13:25

Hmmm trace of protein in my wee and slightly raised BP... Doc not too concerned but has sent my wee off 'to the lab'. However the good news is he reckons 3/5 engaged (I checked and he said he meant this was 3/5 in the pelvis and 2/5 palpable). He also listened to her with an ear trumpet GrinShock

jessplussomeonenew · 06/03/2014 15:44

Wow Merk, sounds like she was listening to you and is moving down on schedule. Exciting! Fancy a career as a baby/bump whisperer?

Foodylicious · 06/03/2014 16:46

Well done kitty!
merk I read something a while ago (possibly on here) about a woman sitting in bed a couple of days after the birth, inconsolably crying that she was missing her baby - confused husband pointed out that she was in fact holding him - she replied something like "no not this one, the one inside of me!"
she was not having a psychotic break and knew it was the same baby but that was the only way she could express how much she missed having the baby inside her Sad
Has made me think a bit and I think has made me appreciate even more all this wriggling and time with baby just to myself before I will have to share...

clench

jessplussomeonenew · 06/03/2014 17:31

I am very much looking forward to feeling wriggling inside - it is very nice to suddenly have a bump to talk to (and feel secure enough to do it), but it must be magical to be able to feel the baby moving. Not long to wait now Smile. I can imagine it's something new mums really miss.

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 17:55

There's a bit on my hypnobirthing commentary about enjoying the last few days with the baby safe inside you and it makes me blub!
Have just done myself an injury with my epilator. God knows how, but I am now sporting a bruised/grazed patch on my bikini line. Something for everybody to comment on in the delivery room Grin

MotherOfCleo · 06/03/2014 17:56

yay merk, fab news re 3/5 engaged baby Grin

I did do miss my bump, I miss feeling him squirm too. I really enjoyed being pregnant though. I envy ladies with lovely bumps that I see walking around. Smile
