hey win
General anesthetics are ok (had many, but for different reasons). You will feel woozy when you come round afterwards, will have dry mouth so suggest you take some mints to suck on later as this can last a while due to the drugs they give you to stop you being sick.
Anesthetists are generally lovely and will help you relax as much as they can. The going to sleep bit really is as quick as you see on the telly, first they usually pop a blood pressure cuff on one of your arms to monitor while you are 'under' and a cannula in the back of one of your hands for the anesthetic.
Totally understandable that you are nervous x x

Thunderpantsarego · 15/02/2014 15:22

win I had an erpc under GA and it honestly was absolutely fine, I was really nervous but like the others said, it was over very quickly. With me they gave me a premed which felt like being drunk and then it felt like a minute later I was waking up, felt like is just been asleep. Everyone was really lovely, but i think it's important to make sure you have time off after to rest and recover- both emotionally and physically. The dr had given me a 2 week note and I never thought I'd use it all but I did in the end. More emotionally- just needed some quiet sofa time and lots of treats x x

Tallyra · 15/02/2014 16:23

Hi win, yes it was GA each time. It's absolutely fine - as thunder says, it's really very quick - they ask you to count to ten or ask a question and you only get halfway through what you are saying before you wake up in recovery with a nice nurse sitting by you. I also had it for my hysteroscopy so that's 4 times in 4 years and not had a problem with it. Just give yourself time to recover afterwards, there will be bleeding for up to a few weeks but only cramps for a day or two.

Boomgoestheweasel · 15/02/2014 16:47

win so sorry to hear your news. It's truly shitty. Hope you have plenty of RL support, as someone said lots of us have experienced a loss so do stay if you need online support as well. It takes a long time but does get better. Thinking of you xxx

MotherOfCleo · 15/02/2014 16:55

so so sorry win Sad thinking of you at this shitty time! Thanks

PoppySeedBun · 15/02/2014 17:10

win I'm so sorry to hear that - rubbish news :(
Very similar to my experience in April - stopped at 6 weeks after a scan, caught at 9 weeks after some bleeding. I had ERPC, and I think I remember it not being GA, but sedation instead - though I could be misremembering. Experience the same anyway - counting down, then waking up. Like tally, I found it helpful in moving on to have it done and be able to think about moving on. Definitely give yourself some time at home to recover. I had hardly any bleeding and cramps after, but still needed time to get my head adjusted before going back to work.
Sending you lots of hugs and Flowers.

PuppyMummy · 15/02/2014 17:16

really sorry to hear this sad news win

SidneyBristow · 15/02/2014 17:46

win I just saw your post; I'm so very sorry this has happened Thanks. I've no experience with a d&c but I have had GA several times and never had any problems. The anxiety beforehand is the worst part, but perhaps they offer a mild sedative here (I'm newish to the NHS) which would help. I am just so sorry this has happened. Sending you big hugs Thanks

Brodicea · 15/02/2014 17:55

Hey all, I've been off the radar for a few days so just catching up. win I'm so sorry to hear your news. Thanks I've had GA for a minor operation and it was OK - I tried to eat too soon afterwards and was sick. foody gives good advice there. Take it easy on yourself too, as others say - my friend had the exact same scenario and really beat herself up for feeling down and out of sorts (she has a DH who was a bit clinical about the whole thing and didn't really show any emotion about it - he's a doctor and I gather a bit desensitised) but take all the time you need to recuperate. xxxxx

I had my extra scan yesterday morning for the 'measuring large' issue and am very grateful to say everything was fine with the baby and fluid levels - she's just within the large end of the normal range. I feel very humbled to be able to say so.

winohhh · 15/02/2014 23:39

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your comments. It helps a lot. I wish you all happy and healthy pregnancies (and beyond!) hopefully I'll join you again soon. Xx

Thunderpantsarego · 16/02/2014 14:01

You take care win, and yes you'll be back soon. I think lots of us still keep an eye on berry HQ so we'll be looking out for you if you're over there for a bit.

brod brilliant scan news for you! I know what you mean about feeling lucky and humble to be there x x

Thunderpantsarego · 16/02/2014 16:20

Very quiet here at the moment. As for me, I am thundermoanalot today. I ache! Lower back, legs, hips...can hardly walk. Mooaaaaannnnnnnn

Foodylicious · 16/02/2014 16:28

Oh, thunder! thats pants! just about to make a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, would you like one?

Lazy(ish) day here today. Last day of holiday before I go back to work tomorrow. OH went back to bed about 12.00 and is still there. I have had an hour exercise walking slowly round the supermarket.
Just laundry to finish for work clothes for tomorrow and have a think about tea. was going to cook properly but don't think Ill bother if OH is still in bed much longer!
Been an emotional few days/week for mostly hormonal reasons I think Confused

Foodylicious · 16/02/2014 16:31

kitty last night was fine -her flat does smell like an ashtray but she smoked outside all evening.
Despite that I stripped in the living room when we got back as my clothes stank!
Annoyed at having to wash my coat again, only washed it last week!
was ace to see her though, being very brave (and rather drunk) and having all her hair shaved off, she has raised around £1500 towards the cost of her mums electric wheelchair Grin

PoppySeedBun · 16/02/2014 16:49

Quiet evening here too. MIL and FIL have gone back home after staying the weekend. NCT went pretty well - everyone seemed nice enough.
I'm currently immobile on the sofa Grin
Trying to convince myself that the fact that the little one has been particularly active today counts as some sort of exercise and justifies the ice cream I just ate Hmm

PuppyMummy · 16/02/2014 17:26

we hav cleared out the spare room that will be the nursery!

it was my 'dressing' room for work cos I get up before oh so we had to clear the wardrobe and drawers in the other spare room, find new homes for stuff and then relocate all my clothes!
just had a nap after my hard work! Grin

Thunderpantsarego · 16/02/2014 17:27

Yes please foody!

Tallyra · 16/02/2014 18:00

Another one here just had a nap. We took the neighbours' kids out to the woods this morning. They had a nap in the car on the way back and I thought that was a great idea so I went to bed at 3. Only got up at 5.15 Shock oops. We have nothing out for dinner and oh is on the xbox so I'm not quite sure what to do. Just found out my oldest friend is in town for the night and hoping she invites me to dinner but I doubt it as I'm sure she has something organised already.

Thunderpantsarego · 16/02/2014 18:35

Can you not invite her, tally?

SidneyBristow · 16/02/2014 19:17

I'd have had a nap if I could've managed it! SKs have been here this weekend so nonstop activity of one kind or another. Felt lousy yesterday but surprisingly good today, although nausea struck while we were out in public Hmm what to do in that case? I'd be mortified to throw up in front of anyone least of all strangers!

Thunderpantsarego · 16/02/2014 19:19

Fraid you might have to let that go, sid, I had to jump out of the car in Christmas Day to puke on my feet by the side of the road. And that was at almost 28 weeks, when you're supposed to be feeling great.

Classy!

Bunnygirlie · 16/02/2014 19:30

brod great scan news!

Poor thundermoan hope you are less achey now.

Had a chillaxing weekend but also done a bit of walking to see the flooding round here so now shattered, I dared to have a bath which was lovely. Not as deep and hot as usual but sooooo nice as haven't had one since new year and I'm usually a bath at least once a week kind of girl.

Still feeling crap but shouldn't complain as I know how lucky I am.

BlindKitty · 16/02/2014 19:38

foody I have to have fabreeze in my car for work! I'm going to make a point of advising all my patients not to smoke an hour before I go round. It's bizarre to think I used to smoke now, even if it was just as a social smoker. Omg I can't believe your friend had her hair shaved off! That's amazing!

poppy what did you learn in your nct class? Want to get prepared!

tally takeaway?

thunder Brew moan away, the rest of us prob aren't too far behind you!

Holding off napping here but only because it's a bugger getting to sleep on a Sunday if you do
