I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

gl living!

Doom
When you put it like that....preggo since June?! That sounds and must feel forever. Tick tock, not long!

Starry
It's ridiculous isn't it? You really don't know if you are coming or going with this thing. I had HG until the end last time although it was much improved by 22 weeks and I could work, would be vomiting every day but the nausea was manageable. This time....grrrrr, I have occasional good hours but will generally be punished for it. I'm vomiting again at 27 weeks but this is because over the past 6 weeks I've dropped pred from 20mg to 7.5mg!!! Woohoo!!!

Seen HG Prof yesterday....he's really pleased I'm down to 7.5mg pred now but thinks I should stay on this until term unless I feel absolutely amazing. He does not think this will happen. I'm just ticking on this dose...I get severe nausea every evening, vomit everyday and I am limited to around five different foods. So worse than I have been but I somehow feel a bit better so think I can manage it.
He's very good at reassuring me about meds too, says the dose I'm on is only a few mg above physiological levels so I should just stop worrying about it. He is so chilled about medications. I dread to think what this would be like without it.

Work tomorrow. Will be glad when it's done! Feel inspired by Living, a trip to the 'Dam is a work equivalent!

Meerka · 11/03/2014 15:12

oh punk, all I can say is that you've really drawn the short straw this preg :s I suppose the only upside is that you're moving into the last trim soon

party time once it's all over!!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 11/03/2014 15:13

punk I love your Prof Grin

does he know he's on this thread?

livingzuid · 11/03/2014 15:19

Thank god on train home. Only survived because of copious amounts of diet coke. Feel sick!

PunkStar · 11/03/2014 18:02

Hehe The Prof is ace, I think he'd be chuffed to know he is on here :-)

Bah, just vommed because the kitchen smells of wood. If only everything was lemony the world would be a better place.

PunkStar · 11/03/2014 18:05

Ooooh that's made me think must be v prepared for work living with variety of drinks and acceptable foods.

Glad your day is done, any more interviews lined up or some freedom for a while?

ChaffinchOfDoom · 11/03/2014 20:35

sheesh I bought the wrong washing up liquid last time, green piney one. fecking vile. ended up using it very very generously to get rid. got fairy orange again now

livingzuid · 11/03/2014 20:43

punk that sounds awful for you but you are in very good hands by the sound of things! Are you looking forward to working in a little way or just want to curl up?

Something just made me feel vile. I don't know what. A smell of some sort and I don't even know where it came from. Chaffinch since June?? Why does that sound like forever! How strange about even washing up liquid setting you off! Although why am I saying that, we've swapped laundry brands three times so far as I couldn't stand the smell.

Interview-wise I am now free for a couple of weeks. I have this second interview to go to but that is not for a little while. Only four more 'work seeking actions' to do before I switch to maternity leave pay. I don't have to do anything for a couple of weeks as it's on a four week cycle. It's very odd applying for jobs and hoping they don't invite you to interview Grin

Also just posted asking for advice about a good car seat for a 3 door Polo that won't cost an arm and a leg. I think we can go up to £150 or so but would prefer it to be cheaper! Mum is going to be coerced into bringing it over hehehe she doesn't know yet. She's already bringing my stereliser set and some stuff I've ordered online. So any suggestions would be gratefully received. I saw this one on the Mothercare website which had good reviews and is amazingly inexpensive but not sure about the head support for a newborn. It's all such a mystery to me....and fretting over the pram. Why do they have to have so much crap available to buy?!

www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Madrid-Combination-Car-Seat/537555,default,pd.html

Going to amble upthread now sorry if I have missed people.

livingzuid · 11/03/2014 20:53

petit that is fab news about being signed off till your maternity leave starts.

starry I was sick from about 7 weeks through to about 20 weeks, really badly. I felt like I was running through treacle. Then it got much better. If I try to stop my medication though it comes back. I just get nausea mainly in the evenings/middle of the night when the wretched insomnia wakes me, and if I don't eat regularly.

Try to not be hard on yourself, be very kind to you. Just be comatose on the sofa/bed and if you can, catch up on all the tv and films you can. Very glad DH invested in Netflix for us - you can change the DNS codes to get the American Netflix as well and watch all their shows. It has more then the UK Netflix. I'm also enjoying MTV's Teen Mom 3 series which is on MTV here at the moment (I have a weakness for crap reality tv if you hadn't already guessed, just not BB/I'm a Celeb type stuff urgh).

Did mrsb sort something out for her sick leave? Hope everyone else is ok.

Off to bed now. Please no insomnia tonight! Have lovely sick free evenings ladies :)

PunkStar · 11/03/2014 21:43

Living
We bought a maxi-cosi pebble, they are about £120 but I think we got it a bit cheaper as we bought 'last seasons design.' Didn't think the little boy would mind not being in the latest car seat trend. There is an optional isofix base on top of that for about seventy quid too though :-(
(If your car has isofix) I didn't look into it at all, OH did the investigating. Bought a Besafe Izi combo isofix for our second level up seat and a Britax swivel type one (two cars grrrrr!)

Ah, don't get carried away with pram thing, they try and sell you a carrycot on top of the pram and a 'footmuff'and all sorts of stuff you'll use for four weeks and then not bother.
We just bought a straightforward pram that seemed to recline most of the way and then cheaper accessories from mothercare or eBay.

Feel totally unfazed about work strangely, if it doesn't work out then so be it, I'll just be happy that I tried. Although by going back even for a day I interrupt my spell of non work so my income protection will not kick in (would have done so end of April.)

Just checked out the mothercare seat, looks good value as will last until four!!!
Ours only lasted until 15 months then had to level up so perhaps the Morhercare one seems a more sensible purchase :-)

petitlapin1 · 11/03/2014 23:02

That mother are one does look good. We bought our pram and car seat last weekend too, a basic graco mirage travel system. No carrycot, no footmuff, no parasol or matching change bag etc but a rain cover, lie flat bit and big shopping basket. We got it in the Argos sale, and with a voucher from Emma's diary website, it cost £74! We haven't bought the clip on seat base as we'll try without it for awhile. Its only 30 pounds if we need it though.

mrsb87 · 12/03/2014 08:15

We're going through a debt charity at the moment who are freezing all our creditors until I go back to work and have picked ourselves up a bit. It won't kick in til next month for a few if them which is worrying for us as we currently won't have enough money to pay our bills let alone buy food and my birthday on Sunday has just had to be forgotten about. It seems wrong that there are no benefits to help 2 hard working people who don't earn a lot (we're probably on a lot less than people who are on benefits). When I rang up about any help all I was told was that dh is working and that cancelled out any benefits I would be due.

On the positive side I've had little to no nausea for 3 days but I can feel it creeping back this morning.

All that pram buying seems like such a long way away for me! 12wk scan next Friday, that's something to look forward to.

livingzuid · 12/03/2014 08:36

Oh mrsb gentle pats as big hugs would be vomit inducing. Life is not fair is it?

We prioritised bills as follows:
Mortgage so we had a roof over our head
Health insurance which is paid separately here
Food for us and the dog
Bills back in the UK so we don't screw up our credit rating there thank you X husband for crippling debt but I'd still rather have that then be with you
Fuel
Everything else

Making sure you eat takes top priority. The bills can be resolved. A month won't make any difference. None of the utility companies will cut you off for not sorting out one payment. Take out enough cash so you can both eat. Missed payments on cards from memory stay on record for six months.

I'm sadly an expert at living like this. I dream of the day I don't owe money! It is so awful that there is not better support. I'm so sorry your pregnancy is being blighted by hg and money worries. But how wonderful that you have the scan next week, that is so exciting and a real milestone :)

I went to sleep at 2.30 am Angry this insomnia is killing me. Feel quite sick today. And have a Skype interview for a trustee position at 11. So have to get out of bed in a minute.

Thanks for the advice on the seats and stuff. It's so confusing. Dh said he's going to measure up what's practical in our car and then we can decide. He's frantically studying the next two weeks for assignments and exams so has been a bit incommunicado. Normally car seat etc would be his domain. Our Polo is from 2002 so we don't have one of those swanky things punk Grin I love our little car but how practical it is I don't know.

PunkStar · 12/03/2014 10:20

MrsB
What a nightmare.
Can't believe there isn't some further help...must be pretty stressful. It's the last thing you need when you're so poorly.

12 week scan though, v exciting!

Living
I've got a really dinky car, you wouldn't believe how much baby paraphernalia I've managed to cram into it :-)

mrsb87 · 12/03/2014 10:34

Thanks for the support guys.

living we have a 3 door fiesta and thinking we will probably have to scale up. We have 3 dogs too and its already a squeeze when we go down to my mum's to visit!

The icky nausea is back today. ..oh well a nice 3 day respite Smile

Lauranne · 12/03/2014 10:47

Hi all, haven't posted in a while, I read, then either DS needs me or I have to puke and I forget. So making a conscious effort today!

Sorry to those of you who are still really suffering, and yay for those of you who have found meds that have some effect.

I'm not doing to badly, smell can still set off a vom-fest, I have to avoid the meat aisle at all costs! Sickness generally is down to 2/3 times a day which is a vast improvement. A lot of random things make me gag lately but with deep breaths etc I'd say 7 times out of ten I can get over it.

Hugs to all x

Meerka · 12/03/2014 12:04

mrsb i really hope the charity can help. Rotten situation :( so stressful

living, I can sneak access to Which reports on line if you'd like me to look up the things you're looking up?

hi Lauranne glad it's a bit better ... how far along are you now? :)

Had birth lesson today, I've forgotten everything from the first time. Really nice lady, very reassuring to have the lesson. Not that I feel exactly .. ready... for it, but a bit readier is nice

ChaffinchOfDoom · 12/03/2014 12:48

all carseats v similar - as long as they have that BS standard kite mark thingie, theyre all much of a muchness. If you take your car to a mothercare type place they'll bring it outside and fit it in for you
important to get the seatbelts as tight as you possibly can round them - I used to pull my whole weight against seatbelt with dd's seat Grin

LucindaE · 12/03/2014 13:28

Just back from Welsh - LauranneI am so glad you are feeling comparatively better, but two to three times a day is pretty bad sickness still -Sad I hope it lets up a bit for you soon. Glad you've been following the thread, anyway. I often wonder how many women do, not feeling up to posting?
Chaffinch Pregnant since last June and puking throughout - what an endurance test! You finish this marathon on 26 of this month, sorry, I WILL get round to updating that list.
Meerka Hope lesson went well. Hope Everyone is coping.
xx

Meerka · 12/03/2014 13:58

it did, thank you. she was nice and very good english, and it was really good to hear the whole thing again and practise breathing and stuff. No water pool available at our hospital, but the place has a very good rating apparently for births generally so it was nice to hear. Did have to run for the loo upchucking once (blush) but she was cool about it.

LucindaE · 12/03/2014 15:00

Meerka You tidy pukers always arouse my admiration! Oh dear, though, the sickness is in the afternoon as well as evening? Glad the lesson went well.
xx

OP posts:
Meerka · 12/03/2014 17:16

tidy puking ... I suppose so. that's the advantage of being sick in the last trim, it's better'n weeks 6 - 18 and you do have a few more moments to get to the loo! Although, ahem, one does need a pad in your knickers. Thank you, loosening ligaments etc Blush

mrsb87 · 12/03/2014 17:19

Don't worry meerka if I had to vom first thing I had a couple of accidents as I didn't know whether to vom or pee first. Not very ladylike!!

petitlapin1 · 12/03/2014 21:28

I got 2 free tena lady in one of the free baby packs near the start, the bounty one I think. At the time I wondered why i'd need them... Ha ha ha...
