I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Lucinda I don't qualify for company sick pay so was just on SSP which is barely anything so need to go back to work as my OH cant afford to continue to support us both anymore /emo/te/3.gif They aren't the most helpful company and are mainly male so are not very sympathetic towards what I am going through. 29 weeks seems very far in the distance right now but is the earliest I can take maternity leave.

kalidasa · 27/02/2014 12:27

I think nesquik are missing a trick! They could be charging three times as much for it and marketing it to pregnant women.

livingzuid · 27/02/2014 12:36

diddy :( I know how hard it is. I had no choice but to stop working and our income has dropped by about 800 euro a month now and at one point it was jacket potatoes and nothing else food wise for a week - lucky I can manage them! I'm fortunate in that we have support from DH's family and really feel for you having to go into work. Is there anyone who could help you at all, family etc? You poor thing.

On a lighter note, really tempted to run to corner store and get some Nesquik now! Not sure I can wait till DH finishes work!

starrynight123 · 27/02/2014 16:53

Hello, hello! It has been really interesting reading through all those food lists - so many sound like the bits I have been eating, but I was really surprised about the variety - I tend to stick to a few things while I can, and then move on to a slightly different group of things.

Lucinda I can confirm I’m not the other ‘stars’ person and my due date is 11th August :-)

Moan does anyone else get that awful jitteriness from having been stuck at home for days at a time? I’m so jittery today and can’t settle at all :-(

Booboostoo · 27/02/2014 16:56

Thanks for the suggestions Meerka I should be able to get hold of them here to try and will look at all the other ideas on the thread, very helpful!

Anyone else having problems with toothpaste? It's my worst trigger for vomiting but then again I can't stand not brushing my teeth either.

starrynight123 · 27/02/2014 17:00

Booboostoo - yes, definitely issues with toothpaste. In the end, I found a very cheap supermarket own brand one (Tesco) and I can use it a bit because it is a ‘chalky’ taste rather than being too minty. So, cheap toothpaste!

I wasn’t able to brush my teeth for a few weeks though and had to rinse with water and suck on sugar free mints. Sorry, not nice but I couldn’t do anything else :-(

LucindaE · 27/02/2014 17:00

DiddyBeth I have been racking my so called brains, trying to think of a way of helping.
Which meds did you say you are on? How much are they helping? Unfortunately, it seems as if you are one of the unlucky ones in that you're still feeling really bad quite late on.

I wonder if there might be some advice forthcoming on
the Pregnancy Sickness Support number - they phone you back, but they do and might have some idea of how to help out 024-7638-2020. Then there's the Pregnancy Sickness SOS website that might have some useful referral for this situation
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/employment-issues
But don't feel obliged to contact these links and never feel bad about moaning. That's what this thread is for!
Waves to Kalidasa Livingzuid and Everyone. So, nesquick as magical properties - Crusha, doesn't appeal to anyone?

Cross posted!
Waves to Starry. Sorry, daft mistake - where did our other echoes of Van Gogh named poster go? I'll add you to list of due dates. Lots of August babies. Mine was too, doesn't seem as long ago as it was Shock.

Boo Strawberry kids toothpaste was a life saver for me - do they have it in France? I used to apply it with my fingers...Also, I used to rinse out with bicarbonate of soda mixed in water, probably a doctor would say I shouldn't have because of the salt content, but then, I wasn't swallowing it...

Lucinda Thank you for those links, I am currently attempting to get through to the job center to see if there is anything I would be entitled to while pregnant but have been trying to get through for 15 minutes now and loosing the will to live from the same song playing Grin but shall give that number a try after Smile

I am currently on promethazine which was working quite well as was only sick if I overdid it but have seen a new midwife today as mine was off sick who was lovely and really helpful so have been recommended new stronger tablets which I cant remember the name of atm. So fingers crossed it will help.

Living My OH works for his dad and has managed to get a few extra hours to help us out but not enough to counter the dip of me not working. Unfortunately my mom is saving for her wedding in may (will be a bridesmaid at 8 months :L ) and so don't want to have to ask her for help. Just hoping to muddle through for one more month and then go on early maternity leave as I don't plan on returning to work there when my leave is up.

Has anyone else had to go for the GTT blood test? Been told that the baby's abdomen is measuring a large and will have to have diabetes test at 28 weeks.

livingzuid · 27/02/2014 18:16

I get blood tests every 2 weeks or so and moaned the other day how much more painful it is! I get tested every couple of months for diabetes - basically every function is checked out. I get my results back quickly and find here they tend to call if there is something alarming. No phone call yet though! I think there are lots of potential reasons for the baby's abdomen aside from GD but others can advise better.

And how funny about Promethazine I am given that to help me sleep! On a different sickness medication.

Just had a Nesquik. Awesome. And lucinda I'd have a Crusha too. Milk and chocolate drink seems to dodge the general sugar aversion I have right now.

I couldn't brush teeth for ages. Just flossed when I could and chewed gum for a few minutes. Am sure I have a cavity now as a result :(

Hugs to all.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 27/02/2014 19:11

Ive got a frijj in the fridge for later Grin chocolate flavour

mrsb87 · 27/02/2014 19:37

Evening ladies

mrsb87 · 27/02/2014 19:48

Stupid phone sorry!

Just returned from food shopping. ..brave me! Returned with lots of snacks and nesquick. Also thought I would try some capri sun juices as water and squash are serious nono's atm.

Teeth brushing has been ok for me thank goodness as that furry teeth feeling nakes me feel nauseous.

PunkStar · 27/02/2014 21:12

Bork at chocolate flavoured milk, can't stand it when I'm normo either. Now strawberry flavoured nesquik and frijj is a different matter altogether....

PunkStar · 27/02/2014 21:13

I use a child toothbrush to manage the gagging teeth cleansing

Tallyra · 27/02/2014 21:43

I miss frijj since finding out I'm lactose intolerant but I had ice cold lactose free milk - I'd actually be able to down some of that.

I'm getting a bit scared it's coming back now too Meerka. I've been getting nauseous first thing and then from about lunchtime onwards. However I've just spent the day today nibbling on a carob version of Nutella and I've felt better today than for days!

elizabethsmum · 27/02/2014 21:57

Choc news quick got me through two hg pregs ! Had to be made with ice cold milk :)

elizabethsmum · 27/02/2014 21:59

Damn you auto correct! Nesquick!

Booboostoo · 28/02/2014 07:52

I managed 3 pints of ice cold water yesterday, thank you for the tip!

Normally I am a chocaholic but chocolate literally tastes like poison when I'm pregnant!

mrsb87 · 28/02/2014 08:14

Ah that's good news booboo!! Great to hear you're managing to to keep yourself from dehydrating.
Marmite on toast went down very well this morning Smile

LucindaE · 28/02/2014 09:03

DiddyBeth I should have repeated the number, silly me -
024 7638 2020 and they'll ring you back. I hope you got some sense out of the job centre and I hope the new meds are helping more. How are things today, are you having to work?
Boo Remember ice cubes and ice lollies, too, or ice cubes made of flat coke (or they'll fizz up before freezing).
livingzuid Oh dear, what a tedious lot of tests. How are your veins?
Tallyra Sorry nausea is coming back, that's horrible. I hope it's a temporary hormonal surge.
mrsb87 Well done with toast. Beating these thing seems to be a series of small victories, when you think about it.
Waves at Chaffinch elizaeth'smum Punkstar (of the sparkling water works, sorry!) and Everyone.
Sorry to anyone rudely overlooked.
xx

Moan alert. All this time off has resulted in us being in a right financial mess. I got my monthly wage today and it was pitiful. I know I should really be going back to work but I can't face it yet. We've cut back on so many bills already including my contact lenses. I'm really not in a great place today Sad

livingzuid · 28/02/2014 09:39

Don't do it mrsb honestly it will make you far sicker. Try and survive. I am doing without things I swore I could never do without (meerka Hema has become my fave store!). Shopping at Lidlington, and a 50 euro a week budget. It's super tough but then I think of having to go back to work and crawl into bed gratefully for a nap. Hugs.

mrsb87 · 28/02/2014 09:48

We've cut down so much it's unbelievable, its the mortgage, council tax, insurance etc that's kicking us at the moment and we can't cut down on those. Dh is working really hard to try and get us though but I feel so uselessly

mrsb87 · 28/02/2014 09:51
