I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Pick Welcome, I can't improve on advice from Meerka and others have said. Good luck at GP's today.
Mrsb87 I hope you are feeling a tiny bit better after fluids? The last few days must have been awful.
Good tip from Elizabeth'smum on cyclazine...
Starry I am so glad you got into work, that's a big achievement, and that you find this thread helpful.
Tallyra Poor you, still sick n the mornings if you behave normally, like trying to get up, and a threat of spd - I hope it proves OK.
Meerka Thank goodness he's left his cigar at home!
Waves to all. I hope MrsHende and others have a slightly better day today.
Back soon.
xx

Hello everyone flying message to say I said about being pg and due date and they still wanted to interview me :) faith in non discrimination kind of restored. So now I need to think about how to survive the journey! I get bad travel sick in the car not tried a train yet.

Sorry to everyone struggling and how is mrsb after hospital?

mrsb87 · 19/02/2014 10:55

Hello! Im home after a night of fluids. Feel better hydration wise but still puking. I feel this is it really, this is the routine for a bit. Feel ok for a couple of days then start going down hill again. I told my best friend about tge pregnancy and whats happening, she asked me today if I've started feeling excited yet. A firm no from me. There is nothing to be excited about at all!

Meerka · 19/02/2014 11:43

oop ssorry starry forgot to say hi ! wasnt deliberately ignoring ya Blush

Glad you're out mrsb ... think I said it before but a doctor told me that being dehydrated screws up your electrolytes so being rehydrated not only keeps your baby safe but actually helps you feel better.

Good luck living! when is the interview?

PunkStar · 19/02/2014 11:44

MrsB
So pleased you are hydrated now!
Have they given you any decent meds?
I haven't felt excited all pregnancy nor did I in my last. HG is just the anti-excitement illness. I did feel excitement on D day though.

I am starting to get improvement. Definite improvement!!
Down to 7.5mg pred, will drop down to 5mg at end of week then all being well will stop. I have not vomited in over one week. I even get several hours a day of a very low grade nausea that doesn't stop me leaving house, comes back with a vengeance later but the respite is fab!

I could sleep all the time but I'm sure lots of people with a normal pregnancy feel this way.

I even went into a supermarket yesterday, felt like I was facing my arch nemesis. Focused on the floor, looked at necessities only...got out alive.

LucindaE · 19/02/2014 12:52

mrsb87 So glad you got rehydrated, but anxious that you're still puking. Like others, anxious to know, what meds have they put you on, and did they give you any of the famous kesostix? I think anybody who suffers this badly finds it hard to sum up excitement - partly through just feeling so awful and tired all the time, but some do get excited at the twelve week or twenty week scans, and you may be one. For sure, it all changes when the baby's born, so don't worry, as Punkstar knows well.
Punkstar Glad about dose reduction and wonderful, you faced a supermarket - a bit like defeating the Mionotaur Shock.
livinzuid Did someone say interview?
Waves at everyone. Apologies to anyone overlooked, my thoughts are with you all.

Thanks again for the support, it means a lot. I'm still on metaclopramide and the one you put betweek your top lip and gum (cant remember the name!) For in the mornings when I can't keep any tablets down. Im up for giving them a real chance as the metaclopramide was good in the afternoon and evening but the bad mornings gradually took over. I've just had a cereal bar and some quavers, feeling a bit more determined after a quick nap. Not a lot of sleep to be had when you have a fog horn snoring across the ward and my drip machine beeping!
Livingzuid that's so exciting about your interview, I hope you manage to get in for it ok? I guess the worst thing is putting a lot of pressure on yourself anddl making the sickness worse.
Punkstar you are keeping my optimism alivr by saying your starting to feel better, how far along are you?

mrsb87 · 19/02/2014 13:41

Oh lucinda I have ordered the ketostix from amazon yesterday, im hoping that will help speed up the process if I need to go back in. I did a LOT of (what I felt to be) unnecessary waiting around last night which made it all that much worse.

livingzuid · 19/02/2014 14:04

Ladies I'm so excited I blogged about hypermesis and also what it was like with bipolar and mumsnet tweeted it just now (clapping excitedly whilst trying not to puke in the traffic jam). O

Raising awareness one post at a time!

livingzuid · 19/02/2014 14:05

Would write more but looking at my screen is not helping. Hugs to all.

PunkStar · 19/02/2014 14:21

Living
Good Work!!
You write really well btw :-)

MrsB
I'll be 25 weeks at the weekend....it has been a long slog. Made easier with decent medication. Lots feel better before now though. I don't know if any if us ever feel completely normal until the placenta is out though??

Anyone get completely back to normal in their HG pregnancy??

SliceOfLime · 19/02/2014 14:29

Hello everyone, I've been off the thread for a few weeks and lots has happened! Belated but huge congrats to Jen on your beautiful boy. Isn't it amazing how quickly the HG stops afterwards?!

Hello to all new people! I think starrynight and I are at the same hospital, did you mention UCLH? I was there for my first pregnancy too and generally they were great. Off there tomorrow for 16 weeks check up...

Got to dash but will catch up properly later.

petitlapin1 · 19/02/2014 16:30

Anyone else have horrible shower experiences? I've developed a strong aversion...

punk I am so chuffed for your non vom week! Congratulations!

living you never know, you might have had your improvement too by the time the interview comes round.

mrsb hope you're feeling a bit better with fluids onboard.

mrsb87 · 19/02/2014 17:58

Yes much better this evening petitla! Thank you.
........
Even better has I have just devoured a double cheese burger from maccy d's. I know its naughty but it was soooooo good!

PunkStar · 19/02/2014 19:19

lapin
The shower thing! Yes! I've been able to shower for the past month, prior to that it was baths only, prior to that it was just being smelly!!
I've only been standing in the shower the past couple of weeks, I was sitting on the floor before that.

I think part of my aversion is due to last HG preg, whenever I did shower would always vom. Very strange.

Living
Interview! Congrats but also understand your fears...
Hope you get the job if you want it :-) when is interview?

Slice
Hope everything has been going well and symptoms improving??

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/02/2014 20:14

Punk LOL'ing at your posts 'the anti-excitement illness' how true.

This time, the HG waned quite a bit after week 22 ish, and I must say I do feel 'normal' so there is hope, I'm just taking 1 ondansatron before brekkie and puke in the morning about 1/10 days overall

Im lucky enough to have never suffered with constipation as a general rule, and I eat as much veg/fruit as I can, My bowels struggled with 3x ondansers a day and def needed the lactulose, but as I moved to 2 ondansatrons my bowels equalised and coped very well, didn't need the lactulose at all, now they're fine.
I do struggle to drink much water, but I don't drink much water generally either was reading the instructions for my calcium tablets and do need to up the water taking them,,as they can increase kidney stones, ffs that would be the LAST thing to add to the pg / HG / SPD mix..............

my consultant said 3x voms a day is totally OK if it happens, on ondansatron, but luckily It is just early mornings if Im particularly hungry, so I try and snack quite late eve if I can.

Spd wise - avoid hard chairs, you're better off standing up than sitting uncomfortably...do not push supermarket trolleys if you can help it, and get in and out of cars with your knees together - harder than it looks Grin

petitlapin1 · 19/02/2014 21:47

Punk That is favourite thing about this forum, the "It's not just me" thing. I vom most times I shower, either in the shower or shortly afterwards. Putting it down to either a seasickness effect or something to do with the temperature change. Seems strange as i can swim for half an hour without being ill.

Feeling particularly hormonal this evening, totally over emotional. Completely in love with this forum which has sniff, wipe tears from eyes made this whole thing so much more bearable. Thank you all!

LucindaE · 19/02/2014 22:01

Chafifnch So glad you do feel relatively normal, but I think you're being brave and will feel a lot more normal in due course! Although I was lucky and it was mostly gone by 15 weeks, the residual heartburn was bad for the duration, and occasionally made me heave or puke, that seems quite common but nothing to what poor people who puke frequently throughout suffer.
Mrsb Very happy you are eating.
Livingzuid An excellent article,a Smileand as you say, spreading awareness.
Waves to all.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/02/2014 22:11

currently, how common do they reckon HG is? about 1/10 pg women? or more?

livingzuid · 19/02/2014 22:20

trying to get rid of migrane but our sites say 1 in 100-150 women will get hospitalised for hg which I think is quite high considering that doesn't cover those of us who were treated at gp level.

Will write properly tomorrow overdid it today doh Grin

Meerka · 20/02/2014 07:35

Wiki says: HG is estimated to affect 0.5–2.0% of pregnant women. Ie 1 in 50 - 1 in 200 women get it.

just for interest, the big Danish study about ondansetron says 10 to 15% receive drug treatment (any sort of drug treatment). www.nejm.org/doi/pdf/10.1056/NEJMoa1211035; 0.3%, 10,000 out of 608,000 women got ondansetron, which indicates severe vomitting.

LucindaE · 20/02/2014 08:50

Meerka Those figures are dismal, when you think of it -huge numbers just give up from seeing the GP at all because they get no help and are terribly dehydrated, not realising the dangers.
Livingzuid Poor you - those pregnancy migraines are the worst - I'm sorry you've still got the wretched things afflicting you at this stage.
I hope Everyone is gently sipping liquids - maybe even going wild and eating?
xx

PunkStar · 20/02/2014 08:52

Inspired by all the swimmers....I'm out of puff just climbing up the stairs. Bit worried about my fitness level actually. Have always been über fit....now four months of doing very little .

Friend of mine with exactly same due date as moi is on holiday....ABROAD!!!! My HG brain cannot comprehend someone feeling well enough whilst pregnant to do this. Gaah, even the thought of packing makes feel like having a nice lie down.

Mmmmmm bed :-)

Meerka · 20/02/2014 08:58

punk, i cant walk far. dont ask me why, but swimmign seems possible but walking isnt. Had to get a wheelchair not very far into going round ikea the other day! Can just about manage to cycle a km, which is essential when you live in the NL, honestly. Born on a bike, the kids here; and their toes all have webs between 'em.

Also if you were dead fit before, you'll probably be able to regain your condition quite quickly once the physical strain of the birth is over?

yes, lucinda ... dread to think how many women with unsympathetic doctors suffer alone with HG too :(

livingzuid · 20/02/2014 09:43

Had to wake dh up in the night as migrane got worse not better! Residual effects still in place but am on my way to meeting a friend for a quick catch up. Trying to stubbornly refuse to acknowledge any form of headache or sick feeling!I'm really going to regret this tomorrow.

I just wanted to down a bucket of ibuprofen but fortunately a couple of paracetamol took the edge off. It's the big cure all here, paracetamol.

The numbers are awful aren't they. So many millions of women around the world suffering.

Punk I am the same. Swimming fell by the wayside as we couldn't afford it and walking the dog in the park is about all I can manage. I'm so used to being active this has come as a real blow.

Meerka perhaps it is the weightlessness of water?

Starry so glad to hear things are going better and this in some strange way is helping overcome things. And mrsb glad you are home tucked up.
